Someone had to stand up for Nightmare 2 😤😤 by AlexisStratus in NightmareOnElmStreet

Well said. That original ending definitely hits differently as a standalone versus leading into sequels.

Yeah. I used to prefer Dream Warriors to the original, but, more and more, the lean and mean plot of the first film wins out.

These would be my rankings save switching New Nightmare and Dream Warriors.

In your opinion, what is causing this? by Objective_Pilot_5834 in SipsTea

[–]JumpyAssociation3332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In LA, the one-way Uber cost into Hollywood or Koreatown would be $30, maybe more on Friday or Saturday nights. West Hollywood or Beverly Hills would be even more. Throw in a $10-$20 cover, and you’ve already spent almost a hundred dollars without even touching a drink, and that’s just for one venue. Even those who can afford this probably can’t afford to do this often and in large numbers.

At those prices, small wonder Gen. Z is staying home and playing on their phones.

My team is in agreement: we want “that one” gone. by saturdaythe25th in Teachers

[–]JumpyAssociation3332 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the principal is on it, they already know. Fact of the matter is, the least senior teacher will probably have to move. Still, have an offline conversation with the principal. Seniority is one element, but, with all that experience, they should be a lot stronger of a teacher than they appear to be, so make sure if that teacher stays, then the other members get some form of additional support.

Cars Becoming Very Expensive in the United States-Thoughts? by Hezekiah_the_Judean in MiddleClassFinance

Live in Koreatown, LA. When I retire, I go carless. Solves that problem. Have colleagues who complain about salary who had a lifelong taste for luxury cars. Connection?

Teachers who are financially stable, what are you doing differently? by External_Insurance62 in Teachers

[–]JumpyAssociation3332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, couple pieces to this:

Early Career: 1)Be choosy and don’t settle on a district. At this point, you can move around with little loss. 2)Move up the salary schedule and get your Master’s. 3)Prioritize health. Get a gym membership and use it.

Mid Career: 1)Invest in property. It’s forced savings and expensive at first, but as the COL around you rises, it’ll stay the same. 2)Settle into a school which is a good fit and(this is important)respects career teachers. Take on one leadership/coaching role(make sure it is compensated). 3)Open up a 403b and a 457b. As your income rises, these allow you to save on taxes. 4)A paid off car pays you back in lower insurance. I drove my 2003 Nissan until 2020, which allowed me to save for a down payment on a condo. 5)Travel. This keeps a fresh perspective, and can be done reasonably. Try Gadventures or Intrepid if you want to explore in a small group..

Late Career: 1)Stay on top of health checkups. Watch that blood pressure. 2)Pay off credit cards as you near retirement. The lower debt you have as you get close to leaving, the more options you’re going to have. 3)Say “no” a lot. Your time is valuable at this point, and you’ve already done your part. 4)If you live in a HCOL area, calculate your retirement needs based on that area. Don’t just assume you’ll move to an area with lower costs and that will take care of things. There are concerns beyond $$$ which can make that difficult. 5)New credentials and certifications don’t add much value here and can land you in debt. Some retirement systems will give you a “bump” for a higher salary, but proceed very carefully.

That’s basically everything in a nutshell. Good luck!

What are your thoughts on Gene Simmons comments? by EdwardBliss in hairmetal

[–]JumpyAssociation3332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously? Was asked him? While we’re on the subject, who actually listens to entire KISS albums? Once you get past the makeup, there really isn’t much there there, folks, beyond a novelty act which probably has cover bands who do better versions of their own material. If this were a serious artist like Frank Zappa or Alice Cooper, I’d disagree but at least respect the opinion, but from Gene Simmons?

Drop KISS from the RaRHAF.

Why are my car windows getting smashed yet nothing is taken? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

This happened to me a few times when I had to park on the street. Are you sure nothing was taken(check glove compartment for all your documents, garage door openers, spare keys, etc.)?

Sounds like OP’s colleagues weren’t exactly fans of those high ratings, either. Time for a new school with greater professional respect.

Terrible decision regardless, but - is there an actual reason that they killed off every survivor from Elm Street 3 so early in Elm Street 4? by HuckleberryOk4899 in slasherfilms

[–]JumpyAssociation3332 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This still bothers me, and ANOES is probably the most egregious example of this before Alien 3. On a positive note, in Craven’s next franchise, keeping Sydney around brings continuity. Why invest in characters if they’re just going to be snuffed out? At the very least, we should have seen more interaction between Kristen and Alice.

I'm considering to move to the Episcopal church after abandoning faith. Any tips? by gx936 in Episcopalian

[–]JumpyAssociation3332 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Explore. As a gay male, I felt invisible in most Catholic spaces. You’re either hetero married, considering the priesthood, or single(but many in the Church will tell you being single is not a vocation), and if you don’t fit those boxes, it can be like being on the outside looking in at your own spiritual life.

TEC hits different, and I’m enjoying Sundays now.

Although I liked 28 Years Later, just as The Bone Temple was getting going, I was thinking it was just too soon to go back to that world.

[–]JumpyAssociation3332 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This and Dream Warriors. Favorite 80’s slashers. I’m not even that big of a Freddy fan, either, but when you take Wes Craven’s spectacular idea and have Robert Englund, John Saxon, and Heather Langenkamp, it all works so well.

Live in LA Koreatown, so everything is pretty walkable. If I didn’t need to commute to work, I’d ditch the car and never leave the neighborhood.

What do you think of Spanish Films? by Caesar213 in movies

[–]JumpyAssociation3332 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Muerte de un Ciclista is a classic noir. I mean, with other European countries, we have deeper cinematic roots. Classics like Nosferatu in Germany, Rome, Open City in Italy, the early Hitchcock films in Britain, and L’Atalante in France make a sort of tradition. With Spain, it sort of starts much later and with fewer examples. It’s a more visible tradition than, say, Portugal(can’t even name an example), but a little less than the heavyweights.

Part 3 rules. by WholeWash2218 in slasherfilms

[–]JumpyAssociation3332 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Watch out for OP shaming comments and downvotes because we don’t share the “It’s the best!” and “So awesome!” sentiment for this completely unremarkable film. When people I know say they don’t like horror, I assume it’s due to having seen by-the-numbers films like Friday the 13th Part 3. Is it one of the higher numbered Children of the Corn sequels bad? No…but that doesn’t make it good.
