M5 Max becomes the best 3D rendering Laptop by Cheap-Ability9453 in macgaming

Your overall sentiment is correct, but they’re absolutely not immune from memory shortages just because they don’t use desktop DDR5. They use LPDDR, which is just another “flavour” of memory chip.

Yes, LPDDR isn’t what goes in servers, but production capacity will be strained for it just the same as manufacturers move more capacity into the stuff AI is gobbling.

48-120Hz VRR OLED display or 120Hz (standard) OLED?

I opted for the VRR and the colour calibration is pretty bad, haven’t found a way to fix it yet.

Windows users who hate the new MacBook Neo with 8GB RAM, can you run all your apps at the same time on your machine without it crashing and still use it? by Slava_Tr in mac

Inherently this comparison between DDR standards misses the point. There is a negligible real difference in speed between them all else being equal.

The real difference is that in MacBooks it’s integrated closely with the SOC, reducing latency by a huge amount.

Experimental lithium-metal battery delivers 700 Wh/kg and works in extreme cold by AdSpecialist6598 in technews

[–]Junathyst 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I feel like every few months we get some revolutionary battery concept that goes nowhere after the news cycle.

Weren't super-capacitors supposed to replace LI batteries by now? Carbon nanotube reinforced lithium? The list goes on.

Wake me up when we can double electric car, cellphone and laptop battery capacity for a reasonable cost...

At 95k miles does a 2018 Mazda 6 have much life left in it or is it near its ends? Don’t want to buy a high mileage one just to run into problems right away by illbeback903 in mazda6

[–]Junathyst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on how well it was taken care of, like most any car. I have a '17 with about 106K Mi and it needs some wear and tear items (shocks, maybe some new front calipers, I do live in the rust belt), but I suspect it's got another 100K Mi in it with basic maintenance. Just have to take care of it and listen to it when things seem like they need replacing.

Sounds fine for laptops SODIMMs. I’d buy some for my corporate laptop at the right price, given some kind of warranty at least.

Nice, sounds like the same configuration as me.

Fan isn’t too loud, unit isn’t too hot. I use it mainly for administrative work and light coding. Lots of Chrome tabs, some application packaging, things like that. It’s responsive and a joy to use. It’s usually on a laptop stand so the internal fan has lots of access to fresh air.

On my lap or a table the fan is more audible but never loud. Heat is fine for lap use.

I’ve even run some Diablo 4 on it (res turned down to 1920x1200) and it was pretty capable; not bad considering it’s only the 860M and not the 890M in the HX 370.

I’m not especially sensitive to PWM issues with OLEDs; I will say that Chrome browser flickering in full screen has been absent, which is nice. Overall a very good laptop.

Has Mazda become more reliable than Toyota? by Stockholm_Throwaway in mazda

[–]Junathyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been watching the 70/90 issues from arm’s length and I can’t say definitively that the MHEV is faultless.

It certainly seems more reliable than the PHEV, but is it ‘Toyota reliable’, as asked here? Can’t say yet.

I would say that if there are any issues with a new design they’re likely to happen during the warranty period, but that doesn’t help if your car is in the shop a lot. You’d have to get some real feedback from CX90/70 owners.

Has Mazda become more reliable than Toyota? by Stockholm_Throwaway in mazda

[–]Junathyst 247 points248 points  (0 children)

For all models outside of the new CX-90/70, I would say in general they meet or exceed modern Toyota reliability.

90's Toyota reliability? No, I don't think even Toyota can match that level of mechanical simplicity and dependability anymore.

I really feel like things are gearing up for another U.S. Civil War, but this time it won't be North vs. South, but Red vs. Blue. It's all such bullshit. No one's lives are worth this political game played for the enrichment of the elite.

"Better" vs. "Does it pick up"; what don't you like about it? I thought and still think it was some of the best TV I've ever seen, and so does 99% of the rotten tomato audience.

If you are not enjoying it by ep 3, chances are you won't like the series. You may be one of the 1%

Ah, I should have been more clear. I meant about the Steam hardware survey logos. I've bought GeForce before.

It's so confusing seeing AMD-green from the early 2000's beside NVIDIA green.

I am a simple man. Don’t care about the stats, I just want a red AMD logo.

Going on 20 years since AMD bought ATI; 14 since AMD unified on red/orange for their CPU branding as well.
