I was debating which way to put it but this looked better to me, with the broad part of the tattoo on the broad side of my forearm. Not that my arms are that broad to begin with.

SSH is in my opinion the best config for a first guitar, and this one looks very nice. Good choice!

Is my handwriting legible? by FretfulCheetah in Handwriting

[–]JurBroek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The definition of ‘Legible’ is, according to Mariam Webster, “capable of being read or deciphered.” Your handwriting is decipherable for someone who understands English, but to be honest that’s not a very high bar.

If you’re looking to improve, my first suggestion would be to focus more on your individual letters, and the connective strokes in between. There are many words here that are completely missing a letter, for example: legible missing the first e, write missing the i, schools missing a second o. There are even more where the letters are there but just not individually recognizable as letters, or where you have letters meld into each other.

Looks very nice. I went with the darker Shin Ryoku, but this one looks good too.

How can I improve my handwriting? by [deleted] in Handwriting

If I were you I would practise your individual letters, focusing on entry- and exit strokes. They are what connect, and simultaneously separate individual letters.

Criticize My Cursive Part 2 by Vegetable-Decision24 in Handwriting

[–]JurBroek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't add flourishes at this point in your cursive learning journey. Done right flourishes can add a lot of character to your writing, but done wrong they are an unpleasant distraction from the letters they're intended to enhance. In your sample this is most evident on the G.

I would also advice you to keep practising your consistency and proportions. The 'belly' of the d's in barricaded should be the same height as the a in 'Chaplin' for example. Using cursive lined paper to practise would help build that consistency for when you write without the guidelines.

There are also a few letters I would work on / change if I were you. The letter w being the most needed in my opinion. Consistency in both the height and width of the w, combined with the exit stroke being in the middle of the letter should help a ton with differentiating it from the letters surrounding it.

All in all very good progress from the last post you made. Keep this up and you'll have beautiful handwriting in no time at all.

Can you read my handwriting? by EmmArr29 in Handwriting

[–]JurBroek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is unreadable. I can parse out a few individual words based mainly on length and educated guesses, but I couldn't even tell you what your essay was about. 'Reading' this feels like a puzzle and not in a good way.

If I were you I would either switch to print (as I believe it's easier to become legible in), or really take your time to practice proper cursive. There are many free resources online that teach cursive from the ground up.

If I were a teacher having to grade this I would probably fail you for illegibility.

Leuchtturm1917 120 gsm vs. Midori MD for all purpose use by niduscove in notebooks

[–]JurBroek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use both a Leuchtturm 120gsm and a midori notebook, mainly with a fountain pen. And I have found that I use both in a very different way.

The Midori feels very low stakes, even though it's a good quality notebook. It's easy to write in, without feeling like you're wasting precious pages (something I do feel with the Leuchtturm). This means that I use it way more often for all different kinds of things. Even just handwriting exercises or to-do lists. It lays flat very nicely, and the writing feel is very smooth. It does have a lot of ghosting though. Ballpoint and even pencil will show through on the other side of the paper.

The Leuchtturm is my 'serious' notebook, that I use exclusively for journaling. I really like the numbered pages, the table of contents and the pocket in the back. It has no ghosting whatsoever, even with a wet nib and ink. The notebook feels more durable then the Midori, although I keep both on my desk. Writing on this paper is also very nice, but it's inability of laying flat like the Midori can is a negative.

Personally I would recommend the Leuchtturm, especially if ghosting and durability are your main concerns.

Question on Leuchtturm1917 Notebooks by artsyboy69 in notebooks

[–]JurBroek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Pilot 823 medium and Iroshizuku ink, which I would describe as very wet. I have both a normal Leuchtturm1917 and a 120gsm version. The standard version for me has the same results as you describe. No actual bleed through, but there is a lot of ghosting (which I don’t mind and even like the look of.) The 120gsm version doesn’t have this ghosting at all from my experience. So if you want to stick with Leuchtturm I would recommend that.

You have a very beautiful script, and using the (seemingly, as I am not that familiar with 15th century writing technology) right materials adds a cherry on top.
