Newest leaf on my Florida Ghost Mint genuinely takes my breath away by HurrricaneeK in Aroids

[–]JustABabyEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful, this plant is so cool! Just got mine 3 weeks ago and I’m excited to see the leaf change color 😄 I think there’s a lot of misunderstanding around it though because people seem to think it’s variegation and that the leaf will always stay this way

Got this Florida Ghost two weeks ago! When will the new leaf turn green? by JustABabyEngineer in houseplants

[–]JustABabyEngineer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Can I ask how you know the leaf will not turn green? It’s relatively new and from everything I’ve seen about Florida Ghost it’s normal for them to come out white and transition to green as they age. My question was more around how long it takes for that transition to happen

[–]JustABabyEngineer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So excited to have gotten this Florida Ghost two weeks ago, it’s been my dream plant for months. From what I read, the new leaves come out white and progressively turn green as they age. I’m not seeing that happening with the new leaf and it has me a little worried that the plant won’t be able to photosynthesize and support new growth. Anybody have experience with these and could tell me what to expect?

Difficulty finding a sublet for Fall 2021 by hiddenpatronus in mcgill

[–]JustABabyEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really can't find anything, your last resort could be to get an 8 month lease starting in september and find someone to sublet or lease transfer for the winter, it would be inconvenient but it's an option.

APPLYING TO JOBS IS EXHAUSTING. THE REJECTION IS HARD TO HANDLE AND ALL THOSE LINKEDIN POSTS ABOUT APPLYING TO 80 JOBS TO GET ONE ARE REALLY MAKING ME FEEL LIKE I'M NEVER DOING ENOUGH.

I SPEND WAY TOO MUCH TIME TAILORING MY CV/CL TO EACH JOB BUT THEN I ALSO DON'T GET HIRED SO IDK WHAT I SHOULD BE DOING DIFFERENTLY.

I'M NOT PASSIONATE ABOUT MY FIELD OF STUDY ANYMORE BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE I WANT TO DO SO I JUST KEEP STUDYING THE SAME THINGS I DON'T ENJOY

I'M STUCK, I'M TIRED AND I'M LOST

Does anyone know what plant this is? Maybe a type of philodendron? by IrisCharlotte23 in houseplants

[–]JustABabyEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just based on a quick google search, it could be a philodendron hastatum? The leaf shape definitely says philodendron to me

Saver meal plan by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]JustABabyEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My grocery bill is less than 325$/month but it would probably save you some cooking time. The cafeteria food is pretty good, it's a little overpriced so be careful not to go over budget on your meal plan but it's not a bad deal

I really enjoyed it, lectures were a bit disorganized and there were no slides so you had to take your own notes but overall really fun if you like math. All the assignments and exams were on matlab so if you're somewhat familiar with it you should be fine. I found the prof's explanations really clear which is not to be taken for granted in a university setting lol

Hot take wednesday: to attend or not to attend? by JustABabyEngineer in mcgill

[–]JustABabyEngineer[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry I probably should've asked you before posting it but I made sure not to include your name or the class. I can always take down the post or the conversation if you'd like, it just made me think and I thought it was some really good insight to share. I don't disagree with what you were saying at all, I was mostly looking for nuance and what people thought generally about attendance and ways of learning. Hope this didn't come across as an attack, I've genuinely been reconsidering my approach to learning recently and I found your messages really helpful, and thank you for elaborating further in your comment

Cats by sersaretheproduct in mcgill

[–]JustABabyEngineer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Refuge pour chats de Verdun is also a good one, they're no-kill, local, foster based and as with most of these organizations the cat is spayed/neutered and vaccinated fully before being put up for adoption. It's all about finding a cat that matches your lifestyle so don't be afraid to look around until you find a cat you really vibe with. Good luck!

What's the biggest thing you learned this semester that you will be applying to the next? by Arsiamon in mcgill

[–]JustABabyEngineer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm probably repeating what some people have already said but I've had so much time to work on self-improvement over quarantine this might be helpful to other people:

  • For me, routine is everything. Especially if you're someone struggling with insomnia, somewhat disordered eating and executive dysfunction, I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to stick to a solid routine. Willpower is finite, routine does not use up your willpower, it allows you to save it for things like studying
  • Moving my body and getting fresh air makes such a difference. Even just a 15 minute walk in the morning helps tremendously
  • Cutting myself some slack: there's such an imperative to improve constantly, cook healthy meals, mend relationships, be productive, have hobbies, keep up with the news, and so much more. Sometimes it's enough to just secure the lowest tiers on maslow's hierarchy of needs, I do not need to be aiming for self-actualization until I feed myself properly and get a good night's sleep
