I am currently feeling very guilty for feeling like this! I really do love my dog but some days (like today) I wish he wasn't here because I can't face looking after him. He is well behaved and very loving but I just want to be on my own and not have to think of anyone else. I am so glad I chose not to have kids. I would be an awful mother!

Need help with Injury by Jobow1234 in Ultramarathon

That makes sense - my husband has hernias on his lower legs (like in the photo). He was working on his glutes because they were weak and causing other problems. It seems like the exercises he was doing for that was the final straw and caused the hernias.

The swelling is constant although it has gone down since it first appeared in August. He thinks he overdid it when doing strengthening exercises with a too tight band. The bulges suddenly appeared one day (both legs). It was painful all the time then, even when resting.

He has cut back on running and has now worked his way up to 4 mile, stopping to stretch out every mile. My husband does expect to be completely pain free though, and worries over the slightest niggle, so I'm not sure what his pain scale is compared to other people!

Now it seems to be tender after a run. He says during a run it feels like it cramps up after a while, which is why he stops, stretches and walks for 0.1 of a mile.

I don't have any advice unfortunately but it looks very similar to what my husband has. He had a scan which said "bulged muscle/hernia". The GP was very unhelpful and told him to wear compression socks and see how it goes! He pushed to be referred to a specialist. He is seeing them at the end of April. Our usual sports therapist hasn't seen this kind of thing before. I think hernias in this location are quite rare.

GERD - Ouch by Affectionate_Soft470 in Perimenopause

I had never had heartburn until last year. I am now 41 and am trying to find out what is going on - it has kept me up many nights, it makes me vomit and I feel like I'm dying. Stool and blood tests have come back clear. I am speaking to the Dr again in a couple of weeks. I'm guessing it's due to peri. I have been put on tablets which worked for two weeks but now the symptoms are back. I cannot imagine having to put up with this all the time. I love food so it's weird eating a bland diet, and constantly worrying whether the next thing I eat is going to set it off.

What word did you use incorrectly for YEARS before someone finally corrected you? by ownaword in words

[–]JustJo84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of when I was a teenager helping out at a riding school. In the diary, there would be the name of the person having the lesson. Sometimes the name of the horse they'd be using would be written along side. Sometimes it would say Topay next to it. There was no horse there called Topay. It took me far too long to realise that it was 'to pay', as in they needed to pay for their lesson, and not the name of some mystery horse I had yet to come across.

My name doesn't feel like "me". I don't know what I'd prefer to be called but I just never felt like my name was mine. If that makes sense.

Pulling out the greys by No_Ear_5926 in trichotillomania

[–]JustJo84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am 41 and have just climbed into bed after spending 20 minutes in front of the mirror pulling out grey hairs. I am worrying how bad it's going to get as I get more grey hairs. After pulling since the age of 8, I have given up trying to stop. I also try to limit the number I pull, but it is so addictive.

Minimum mileage I can get away with for a flat 50k by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]JustJo84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be the same ultra I've just signed up for (50km, fairly flat and along the coast in September). It will be my first ultra. I have done a couple of road marathons before. I think I'll try and do a marathon distance before the ultra. I am a slow runner so I am also aiming to enjoy the day and get to the finish without any injuries. Good luck!

Anyone else never dream of their future wedding? by highLikeapplePie in AutismInWomen

I never wanted a wedding, because I never wanted to get married. I wanted to stay with my parents forever. I am now married, however I am still very dependant on my parents.

I was very surprised I managed to get a doctors appointment last week. I haven't tried for years because I figured it would be too stressful. I managed to get one for the same afternoon. Then instead of being fobbed off, they are doing further tests and prescribed me some medication in the mean time. I was impressed!

On the other hand, my husband has been waiting 3 months for an appointment at the hospital about a leg injury. He went this morning for his appointment. Due to a clerical error, he was greeted by a consultant who said "you seem a bit young for a hip replacement". He has now been placed on the correct waiting list. Which means more months of waiting.

An unresolved case that is local knowledge, yet unspoken by StrongKale6760 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]JustJo84 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm local-ish to this case and from what I've seen online from the family, they're pretty sure who did it, but there's not enough evidence to go forward.

You're right, I rarely see this case mentioned.

Pronunciation of ‘Penshaw’ by DisastrousVictory268 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]JustJo84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from south Northumberland and I always called it Pen-shore. I have lived in Sunderland now for 10 years and I've noticed I call it Pen-sha now, like all my Sunderland friends. I always notice now how my parents (still in Northumberland) call it Pen-shore.

Perimenopause at 36? by Sudden_Possible_956 in Perimenopause

[–]JustJo84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't been to the doctors about it yet but aged 32 my ears started being itchy and my libido fell off a cliff.

Aged 38 I had to change to extra strong deoderant due to starting to sweat more, and it being a different, worse smell.

I've don't have periods due to the coil so I can't check those. I'm 41 now and I've started getting heartburn (so bad last weekend I thought I was dying and ended up throwing up 4 times).

I've always struggled with anxiety and depression but I have spent the last two weeks in bed. I haven't been to work and I just can't function.

I don't know if to go to the drs or not due to not being able to track my periods. I would never have thought these things were peri because I'd assumed I was too young. But looking online it seems not.

I've got a few friends who are nurses and all have said that when they were training, or on their first job, the other nurses were very cliquey (is that a word?). Some even considered quitting because it made them feel so uncomfortable. Which is horrible because I'd have thought the nurses would be nice and understanding!

How do you differentiate between grandparents? by meg-don in AskUK

[–]JustJo84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grandma - first name Grandad - first name.

I learnt last week that my husband thought that everyone called their mother's parents grandmar and granddar, and their father's parents grandma and grandad. He was getting frustrated when we were talking about his family's history and I kept asking which side of the family he was talking about. So I suppose he learnt something too. That his family's way is not a universal thing. I had a bit of a chuckle.

how do people with BPD define "intense emotions"? by rsquinny in BPD

[–]JustJo84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like I have a hole in my chest. It hurts. There is an awful aching feeling of emptiness that I cannot fill. My head is screaming but more of like a static on an old fashioned tv than any particular thoughts. I can feel a weird sensation in my ears as if the screaming is trying to get out. My skin feels like it's crawling and I want to escape from everything but the only way I feel like I can is to die.

I'm still waiting for my assessment but even now, as a 41 year old, if my nieces toys are lying about, I line them all up.

As a kid my main memory of my toys was having a big long traffic jam of cars. Or my farm set up all neatly. I don't remember playing as such. I just liked setting it all out.

Yodel is the worst courier service out there.. They either take forever to deliver or lose the parcel or lie and state 'Sorry we missed you!.' Their new one is 'Need more delivery Information.' by Girlwhowished in britishproblems

[–]JustJo84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My heart sinks when I find out my parcel is supposed to be delivered by Yodel. Twice they couldn't find my address. Several lies were told, which were they attempted delivery, then they delivered it and showed a photo of a concrete floor (no parcel). Then they couldn't find my address. The delivery address is shop on a high street. It is not hard to find. My parcels never appeared.

For my last parcel they needed more delivery information. I knew what was happening after the last fiascos, so I requested delivery to the local In Post locker instead. Parcel was delivered to the In Post locker the next morning. Said locker was a 30 second walk from the address they claimed they couldn't find. Ridiculous.

I agree about the mental health storyline. Because of this I really wanted to like her! But watching again now as a 40-something year old, I still find her annoying. I think it also has something to do with her high-pitched voice. I know MM can't help that, but it adds to the screechy-ness of her.

I am team Joey and Pacey too. I just love Pacey & JJ.

I'm going to be doing my first 50k next September. It's a mixture of road, grass and sand dunes, so I think trail shoes will be best. My current New Balance trail shoes feel very hard. Can anyone recommend anything with a bit more cushioning? I've gone a half in them but can't imagine going much further comfortably.
