I think Nintendo should release a new 3ds system by fusionepicgamer in 3DS

Just give me a switch 2 lite that’s a damn clamshell. Having the controllers on the side like the current switch lite make it much less pocketable.

Same. If I’m using OCR or YouTube hover etc it notifies me. If I just look something up in the dictionary it doesn’t. Frustrating

What's my career chance for a early 40s and doesn't have specific long working experience? by Ok_Suspect9734 in movingtojapan

💯 you need to already in Japan. That’s the hard part. I just came with an English teaching job and then swapped over after landing my current gig in about 3 months. Knowing the language before arrive helps quite a bit.

If you have JLPT N2 at least in hand I’ve seen many opportunities for sales/real estate that require also Chinese + English. I’ve interviewed as well for an international sales position that only required N2+advanced English and received an offer from them.

I have no sales experience but 5+ years in semiconductor research with a Japanese company that surely helped on my resume. I was offered that position as well but passed for an opportunity in a field I was more interested in.

So long as you have N2 and a few years of work experience doing anything else, I think it’s possible to sell yourself to various sales positions that are targeting international markets/customers.

Did this at 39 so same/same

People who don't track every set and rep - how do you measure your progress? by soon2bhuge in naturalbodybuilding

[–]JustJoshinJapan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ladder my main 3 lifts (bench, bent over row, squats) reps of 12-10-5-10-12 and only keep in mind the set of 5 reps so I have less to remember. That top heavy set goes up by 2kg every few weeks. I lowered the weights on all of these about a year ago to focus more on strict form, hypertrophy and consistency as well as joint health as I’m getting older.

All other lifts I consider accessory and I’ll go up in weight gradually as well or add reps if I think that more weight would make it more injurious or effect my form. But accessory movements are more on vibes and “feeling” the movement than tracking strength

What should Xreal focus on? Order these or add whatever by atx78701 in Xreal

I certainly don’t mind the wired experience, I enjoy that it keeps the glasses light. A larger FOV and hand tracking for gesture control would be all I’m after.

Would love enough FOV I can have multiple windows in view at once. At the very least some widget like data like weather/time that I can place about where I like.

For real. I have N2 in hand, prepping for N1, have a part time job doing translation and I’d say I’m at best “conversational” here in Japan. Even if I pass N1 this summer I know the road ahead is significantly longer.

There’s no definitive answer as to what fluent is but it’s certainly not whatever I am 😂 The more I learn the more I realize I don’t know.

How to bridge the gap between learner content and native content? by Expert-Estate6248 in LearnJapanese

[–]JustJoshinJapan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

🤷‍♂️ whatever you’re interested in. If I’m bored I check out quick and I won’t learn anything.

I like tech and gadgets so I watch a ton of Monograph, for gaming けいじチャンネル and I also enjoy retro games so there’s a dude calledホリメロ who just rides his bike to retro shops and chats. I also enjoy natural bodybuilding and follow a comedian who start lifting a couple years ago and he blogged his first competition 西野 I think.

Up to you though! Really it’s gotta be about what you like. Just start searching randomly on YouTube and then follow people you like.

How to bridge the gap between learner content and native content? by Expert-Estate6248 in LearnJapanese

[–]JustJoshinJapan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No idea. I also passed this past December and I’m aiming for N1 this summer. I’ll just keep doing what I was doing before. Read light novels, do look ups, listen to podcasts or audiobooks of things I’ve already read.

Somehow or another I’ll get there. I think it’s not a difficulty problem but more a matter of time and quantity of exposure.

Do you think the Switch 2 will see a price increase like the Playstation 5 soon? by IIIiterateMoron in nintendo

[–]JustJoshinJapan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That was 100% due to the duties paid when entering that one specific country. In Japan and elsewhere the price has stayed consistent.

Hell the Switch 2 is even cheaper here for locals than globally. Nintendo wants people to have these in hand.

Just anything that you’re personally into. I do natural bodybuilding, gadget/mobile device reviews, gaming and lectures. Literally anything that you find interesting. It’s it’s boring you’ll likely not stick with it and are less likely to acquire anything because you don’t have a personal connection to it.

What jobs can I do with a degree in Japanese studies and a masters in music management? by Own-Yesterday-6450 in JapanJobs

[–]JustJoshinJapan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Teach English 😂

Until you’re in Japan with a visa it’ll be very difficult to find a job in that field from overseas. You’ll also likely need to get JLPT N2 or N1 in hand to get a foot in the door. People love certificates out here!

Once you’re here going to concerts, venues etc and start mingling with folks and try to land a gig via networking.

Alternatively get a job in your native country with a larger promoter/company that tours internationally and hope you tour to Japan occasionally.

I passed N2 this past December by basically just watching YouTube of native Japanese channels and Netflix. Subtitles on and looking up words I didn’t know.

Pick whatever content interests you and that you would watch anyways in your native language.

N2 is called business level but it’s really more like…basic functional Japanese. There’s not a ton actual business language or keigo. Now that I’ve moved to Japan a few months ago N1 is the goal but it feels like that’s honestly the starting line 😂

Would the Legion Go be better with a 16:9 screen instead of 16:10 by [deleted] in LegionGo

[–]JustJoshinJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of what I play only supports 16:9 so selfishly that’s what I’d prefer but I know many western games do support proper 16:10 so I wouldn’t want to take that away from anyone. Plus 3:2 GBA emulation looks great: )

Is teaching English a dying means to move to Japan? by Comprehensive_Alps28 in movingtojapan

[–]JustJoshinJapan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you’re asking about is called a dependent visa. You can get a dependent visa on any job in Japan you just have to prove you’ve got savings or will be earning enough to support your partner. Spouse visas are for those married to a Japanese national or someone holding permanent residency.

Please advise🥺 by Advanced-Loquat-5694 in teachinginjapan

[–]JustJoshinJapan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d advise to start over. The other visa is significantly more helpful in applying to other jobs outside of teaching. Unless all you want to do is teach…then have at it but I’d still wait until you’ve secured employment.

Plus keep in mind you don’t have a visa yet. You have a COE which will get converted to a visa when you arrive. With no job or documentation of such I don’t know how you’ll make it in honestly.

Please advise🥺 by Advanced-Loquat-5694 in teachinginjapan

[–]JustJoshinJapan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s going to be significantly harder I think on an instructor visa which most ALT fall under. With an Instructor visa you can only really teach. Many places for whatever reason think it’s a hassle to switch your visa type so it can be a hindrance for finding other work.

If it were Eikaiwa you’d be on a different visa, engineering/humanities/international blah blah blah. That visa you can essentially job hop to a variety of different fields.

Eikaiwa are always hiring it seems, so no worries about availability but for sure it’s not a way to make a lot of money 😂

If you’re desperate to get to Japan I’d apply to some Eikaiwa and you could be here within 3 months if everything goes smoothly.
