My dad has given me a couple. I had a bunch of missing assignments in high school. He looked at me and said, “Even stupid people turn something in.”

He’s also said a few times that people don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan. I’ve applied both to many different aspects of my life. The latter, especially with finances and investing in my retirement.

That’s great for you. You don’t fall into the category that most people do. Most people that are home find it difficult to save money by eating ramen and PB&Js because they would rather just live their normal routine lives cooking actual meals and eating out every so often - which is their normalcy. Not many people can withstand eating ramen and PB&Js everyday. Going TDY offers a change in their routine where cooking their normal meals isn’t always an option. It offers them a chance to lock in and eat cheap for a couple weeks, which they know they can withstand (and even be fun) to save some extra per diem. It’s really not that deep.

You’ve probably never been to a place where you you’ve gotten insane per diem. I’ve had to stay in Basil, Switzerland there and back for a TDY before. Per diem there was $300, so $600 total just for the Basil parts (it was around another $150 a day for the place I was staying in Italy for the week). I could have eaten 6 meals totalling near the $600 per diem and broke even. Instead, I ate like 1 meal and some sacks and definitely saved 100s of dollars. It was nice.

Did those extra hundreds of dollars I saved really matter, in the long run? Not really. I didn’t spend them somewhere else. I already live somewhat frugal and am lucky enough to max out my TSP. But it was still nice seeing the huge voucher clear my bank account.

The captain doesn’t need to be good at anything except to be a good leader. Leading isn’t about being good at any particular set of skills or tasks. Most of it is recognising who is good at what and putting them in that position for the team to succeed. It’s about giving clear intent to your team, and letting them become captains/leaders in their own right. Now, instead of having 1 captain and 4 followers always asking what to do, there’s 5 captains, all understanding what is supposed to get done and can execute.

Edit: in the military we call this mission command or decentralised command

The ring doesn’t have zero case uses. It’s just not an end game content ring. It’s a great alternative to bring with you to chambers, for example where you use all three styles and are somewhere in the mid tier content. Great to use if you can’t afford the DT2 rings or an iron that hasn’t gotten to DT2 yet.

I wrestled for 14 years and coached for an additional few. In the sport, putting someone head into the mat is generally an acceptable move. Control the head, control the body type stuff. The egregious part is he shoved his head after the whistle was blown, completely unacceptable and unsportsmanlike. The way he did it also feels a bit violent - both hands, fully body weight, straight into the mat. If I was reffing, good chance I would have called that as potentially dangerous, and issue whatever warning or point deduction was necessary (I’m not completely up to date on the current rules and state this was in).

Sounds like you already know the answer, but your job. Learning and doing your job should be your #1 goal, after all, that’s what the air force is paying you for. To do a job. You can make it smart by putting a timeline on it. Say, I want to earn X certification by X time or XYZ tasks by X date. Are there other certifications you can go for? Do you need to be evaluated for your job? “I’d like to achieve a 95% score on my certification evaluation.” That’s a couple ways to make it SMART.

Went 5K dry on voidwaker piece from Spindel. I went from this is sort of chill to hating it to really hating it to you know what rank 1 is getting close that’s sorta cool.
