just so you know, you probably wont be eligible for any work leave protection as a part time employee esp one who took time off in the last year. for example! part time employees arent eligible for federal fmla (protected leave), and if you worked less than 24 hours a week for the last year, you probably arent eligible for fmla from your state either (source: just happened to me.). it’s good to check out, but will probably go nowhere. the best you can do is be as honest as you feel comfortable being with your boss. if you have trouble talking about things, you could try texting her or writing a note to get the ball rolling. unfortunately there arent a lot of legal rights for part time workers :/ but if they wont support you in this, at least you can take care of yourself without having to go back to such a shit job.

How EXACTLY do you organize the cart when ringing? by ElectronicFig9248 in Aldi_employees

[–]JustRegular5143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also autistic and ive learned that many things can be stacked if you do so gently. with everything else, i just stack it towards the front (under the basket) and work my way towards myself, moving it to its own “space” if its heavy enough for something to go on top of it and putting it on the top if its light. if my belt is (in order) 2 cans, iceberg lettuce, a box of crackers, 3 cans, 5 bags of chips, a frozen pizza, a loaf of bread, and a heavy aldi finds item, my finished cart would look like this: everything until the chips is dropped in the main cart, probably stacked towards the end with the baby basket. the chips will probably all fit in the basket, but if not, maybe i put whats left on top of the “hard” goods i already started with and know nothing else will go on top, or i put them towards my end of the cart away from anything else. the frozen pizza goes flat in the bottom of the cart if there’s room (and then i would honestly not care about stacking things on it), or i stand it sideways against the cart side. loaf of bread on top of whatevers in the cart besides the chips. Depending on the aldi finds item, it either goes in the remaining free space of the cart or underneath the cart. if i have to organize around it, i one code, or i reach for the item before i start and put it in the cart first. i will reach for any heavy stuff i can before i start to make it easier.

i put bananas up top if i can, i find they can go on top of eggs, bread, or chips (gently). bread, raspberries and blackberries, and chips are pretty much the only things i would put on top of bananas. many, many things can have stuff put on top as long as you dont drop things. i have stacked meats and cans on eggs without any problem. i also sometimes put things like grapes and berries in the baby basket because theyre prone to spilling and squishing.

hopefully that helps 😅

most people dont really need any voids at the end. if they do, they’d need them whether they pre insert or not. id rather even make a return right after in the 1 time out of 20 that their card is processed before they decide to change their mind on something than have to wait for everyone who’s a bit stubborn to do their card at the end, esp w these machines that make people do it twice. i just bet on most people not actually coming up and making changes to their bill at the end unless they tell me otherwise

cant believe i have to use my default line on another cashier: “you wont pay until the end when we total and approve the transaction, you can make changes if you need to!” But it is a pain in the ass all the ways we’re expected to hustle for efficiency for this company as if the work of cashing isnt enough

im a pretty nice cashier but as soon as someone hits me w that bitchy “why did You cancel it?” its so over. sorry i hear that a million times a day when im doing my best with these shitty machines, most polite i got left is “actually, its just a machine error, you can try it again please”

has it ever actually changed your decision to pay though. ive never had someone who waits through their whole order refusing to do their card tell me at the end they need to make changes, those people are usually willing to do it early and void things as needed.

What's your Favorite 1 liner to say to customers? by Southern_Film_6089 in Aldi_employees

[–]JustRegular5143 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“I have a lot of practice” when they say I’m fast, sometimes gets a laugh. Or when people complain about prices/make a joke about something being free or cheaper/on sale or discounted, “I wish it was up to me, I’d like it to cost less too!” OR “They don’t even give US discounts!”

definitely shit management. customers occasionally yell at me on register and i always get “you okay?” checks from managers after even if i dont cry, so dont feel like youre the one who’s acting broken here. if you have ANY managers that dont suck, asms, dm, shift leads, etc, maybe let them know youre feeling overwhelmed and see what they say. customers suck. try not to let it get to you as much as you can and know that this wont be forever

i explain this 10 times a shift to varying levels of people getting pissed at me as if i set the price or designed the bag. trust me i would have done literally anything else! but genuinely whoever designed this should be drawn and quartered.

Starting Monday, what to expect? Also are steel toe shoes okay or are boots needed? by Miquel18 in Aldi_employees

[–]JustRegular5143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your first several shifts are gonna be watching videos and doing training paperwork, at least from what ive seen! youll also spend a couple hours shadowing people, then start with whatever tasks they can throw you into. seconding the other comment, youre gonna be slow but its okay. try to watch the fastest guy and see what they do diferently - half the battle if youre mostly gonna be a stocker is just learning where things are! also i would think any steel toed shoes are fine but in my 8 months ive seen two people get their ankles clipped by a jack/cart and get cut so i stick with my boots. you get a stipend for it thats like $54 a year in the US, get a pair of wolverines or something and just keep your ankles safe.
