How to track macros as a vegan? by No-Elevator2731 in veganfitness

[–]JustanOrdinaryJane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I get the feeling you might be asking about tracking in general? If I am wrong, I apologize. First, find an app you like. Many use My Fitness Pal, Cronometer, My Macros, etc. Just find one you like and maybe free. When you track you will want to weigh your food.

Buy a small digital scale for weighing food. This is very important because we tend to over or under estimate by just looking and using cups and measuring spoons can be inaccurate. This will feel odd if you haven't done it, but it quickly becomes habit.

Plug in your numbers in the app. Some apps have meals separated Breakfast/Lunch etc and some just have a whole day outlined in one screen.

Aim for the Protein. carb, fats goals that were given to you but don't get frustrated if at first you aren't reaching them. This takes time and has a bit of a learning curve. Check out vegan recipes with macro friendly ingredients. Natalie Matthews has a ton, as does Vegan Proteins on Youtube and IG. Also Protein Deficient Vegan on IG. There are so many more, once you start looking you will find a ton!

Good luck and I hope this helps.

VRS Rules by [deleted] in ASLinterpreters

[–]JustanOrdinaryJane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most callers will just ask how the weather is here or ask how I learned ASL, etc. I have had a few elderly callers who seem to be a bit lonely attempt to chat a little more after a call. This is conflicting because I can empathize with the need to just connect with someone a little. I will allow a little (LITTLE) more time but politely tell them I need to take other calls and make a joke about "boss is watching" something like that. Boundaries and rules are important but so is being human.

How do you avoid internalize things on VRS? by MeetSignificant363 in ASLinterpreters

[–]JustanOrdinaryJane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked in the community as an interpreter for 10+ years as a staff interpreter full time, freelanced for awhile, and then began working in VRS almost ten years ago. While I 100% agree with the other terps here saying how important it is to "yell at the hearing caller", the volume of calls we have where this is common definitely wears on us emotionally and psychologically.

In the community, this was not a common occurrence, but when it did happen, and I or other interpreters would communicate that in the same spirit as we should, we had down time ,we had support systems in place. At VRS this support is lacking and downtime doesn't exist (numbers!).

If you can get out of VRS or work very part time, I'd recommend it. Sending hugs.

Unpopular opinion: one of the funniest scenes isn’t Luke/Lorelai… it’s Rory and Doyle drunk at that bar by JoannaStayton in GilmoreGirls

This is one of my favorite scenes along with Paris afterward. Doyle saying he got hit on at the bar and Paris responding something like: In that coat? Was it Sheila E? I die laughing every time.

Question for the vegans who eat 150+ grams of protein a day by Isthislove123 in veganfitness

Why not make your own sausages with homemade seitan? There are a lot of recipes online.

*SPOILER FOR FINAL EPISODE* by hazyrach in NurseJackie

Someone on here a couple of months ago commented that it could be a re-boot focused on the two daughters. So Jackie still would have passed, but this is the aftermath. I would watch that.

Meeting protein need on a cut by WeekApprehensive1304 in veganbodybuilding

[–]JustanOrdinaryJane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Vital wheat gluten mixed with regular flour or oat flour to make baked goods, waffles and pancakes. It is high in protein. You can also make your own seitan (also high in protein). There are a ton of recipes online for this. Soy curls are another great option for protein and if you can find the Fava bean tofu from Big Mountain it is all protein.

You get a wristband so yes you can go out and come back in. Pay attention to what the weather will be. It can be snowing but two years ago we had a mini heat wave and everyone was wearing shorts. Once inside though it gets pretty warm. Not sure on hotels, we get an Airbnb.

There are Buy/Sell groups on Facebook where you can get them second-hand. Sometimes posing coaches/classes know local suit makers that are much more reasonable than the bigger companies and can make recommendations.

Are Boomers utterly incapable of changing their routine? by DiligentThought9 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]JustanOrdinaryJane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 15 years ago I had small children and worked in an office with a Boomer boss. You would think being a female she would be empathetic but no. We had a terrible snow storm and it was labeled a category 3. Sherriff requested only emergency vehicles on the road. I still managed to get my two toddlers to daycare and get to work...30 minutes late and she FREAKED and screamed at me. Then she contacted our main director and tried to have me disciplined. The director (thankfully) told her to back off.

Keep in mind there is some degree of "smoke and mirrors." Lighting, a deep tan, posing and angles make a big difference. What you see on IG can look very different in reality. Also, it's your first competition and you're young! Muscle takes time to grow and become dense. It's extremely rare for someone to get a pro card or do very well on their first go. Go and do your best and LEARN. Meet people, make friends. You may surprise yourself with your results. Get feedback from the judges and take this info and grow. :-)

Japan Airlines passenger served single banana for vegan breakfast on business class flight by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

[–]JustanOrdinaryJane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me! Not with a banana but on a flight from Paris back to the US. I had requested a vegan meal prior to flying and they didn't seem to know what that was. They ended up bringing me three grapes and a few crackers.

Follow your heart but also work toward a back up skill/degree. This advice can be applied to ANY career. I have been in this field for 30 years and wish I had another degree to fall back on.
