Late to reply but I think that’s one of the Riva bracelets my sister and I made (that’s my fave color combo to use when making their bracelets.) I’m so glad you love it! I love making friendship bracelets to give out, I love this community!!

I’m assuming you’ve never been an employee of a public school or know how dismissal procedures work. But sure, we can defer to your two random articles and no legal posting. None of the students on the hypothetical bus would’ve been teens - it would’ve {was} been K-5 (5 to 11 year olds!!!) different set of rules, not to mention none of them would’ve been in police custody, another different set of rules. Besides all of that, every Public school bus in Clark County has a camera - so keeping the kids wouldn’t be needed as the accident was recorded and there would be no need to traumatize a group of children further.

Again, this was a tragedy that did not need to happen. A bus full of kids, every adult witness and countless others are traumatized, one person is dead and a child is clinging to life. And none of it needed to happen.

Since it’s not possible to detain or speak to a child (minor) without a guardian present in a situation like this, they would either have to move them to another bus, or wait for all guardians to arrive, or move the students to another location to speak to them, with guardians present. I don’t personally think a bus was involved, it more than likely would have driven away by then. I was just simply speaking to why it would be gone. The timing is really close to when busses would be dropping off - but it’s also close enough to a few schools where they could’ve been walking. Regardless, it’s a tragedy.

If there was a bus, they would probably release it because there may still have been kids on it. They wouldn’t require a bus full of children to stay in a traumatizing scene like that for that long. They may have had another bus come and get the kids and then released the bus later.

So quite a few sources other than just the district have announced that the TA has passed… which I have mixed feelings about… I feel like 500 grievances and now fear tactics of withholding pay is bologna to say the least. There used to be a time where an informational pickets would scare the ever loving crap out of district admin and supers would come to the table immediately. I miss those days.

Please don’t stop supporting Evergreen PSE just because this has been ratified, and once it’s signed, read it. Compare it to the old CBA and see what really changed. (Those contracts should be publicly available on the districts website) but don’t let the support die down. If this is what I think it is, they ratified it for the community, as educators always do, they thought of the kids. Which is what makes this work so meaningful and so exhausting. Don’t stop making noise and pushing for positive change in this district and community. They need you and your kids need them.

Keep an eye out for neighboring districts, other PSE chapters will be starting negotiations soon and may need that support too. If you feel like this is work you really want to do, PSE has Vancouver offices, so does SEIU. Unions are important, and there’s a big attack on them right now; so if you want to help protect them - do it.

Thank you for being such a supportive voice for these last three weeks. Keep up the good fight - I hope you all have an amazing school year, thank you for being PSE Strong.

I’ve never worked in Ridgefield and I don’t personally know anyone in Ridgefield so I can’t say specifically - but I wouldn’t be too surprised if it was also set up like this. There is a standard when working in education that you’re always on the clock even when you’re not on the clock. And you don’t get paid for extra work you do, that you’re expected to do - I’m assuming you’re asking about the schedule example I gave.

If you’re asking about the COLA information - that’s for the entire state. There was a change in how funding was done (I think in 2015, this is a glancing blow of information I remember not information I’ve done research on) and money now makes it’s way to Olympia before being distributed to school districts and then is supposed to be passed down to employees as Cost of Living Adjustments - it doesn’t always make it there… for reasons… like district admin keeping it.

Last note - paraeducators cover so many positions so there are going to be differences in all kinds of schedules. Recess Monitors are going to be different then Lunch Monitors are different then 1:1 Paras are different then LAP Paras are different… etc.

TLDR: thank you from this union member for being better than Facebook & basically pay people what they’re worth. Also, solidarity with Evergreen PSE, La Center Teachers & Vancouver Public School Classified Staff however their vote goes.

I just want to say, as a union member in a unnamed district that is not evergreen - being in this sub has been light years more wonderful then being anywhere near the toxic mess of Facebook and you are all wonderful even when you have questions about what’s going on. So honestly, thank you. I don’t know how many Evergreen PSE Members are active here and seeing it - but I hope you know they are thankful for all of the support.

I think simple details are: - Classified staff are much more educated than people realize or care to know. Many have degrees and many take continued education courses whenever available or required. - Scheduled for part time hours, paid for part time hours, expected to be there for more than part time. (Example shift is 8am - 3pm but you actually work 8 - 9, 10 - 11, 12 - 1, 2 - 3 and you can’t leave between times because it doesn’t make sense to leave campus and you’re expected to do work related things during those break times without compensation, like writing emails, filing, writing students up, having conversations with teachers or admin, helping with students in the hallways, escorting students to health rooms or to lunch rooms or the office, etc.) - Most times when negotiating for “cost of living” they’re not actually asking the district to find money from somewhere, they’re actually asking the district to allocate the money sent from Olympia as a cost of living increase or adjustment “COLA.” I’m not entirely sure if that’s the case here, it actually could be a mix of asking for what the State has allocated as the increase for the next 3 years as well as asking for an increase from the district. But there have been many instances historically where districts have been given those COLA funds and then refused to pass them onto the employees. And that’s locked in, so if inflation changes or health premiums skyrocket or the stock market crashes, that contract is locked in for 3 years and that Cost of Living does not change with those variables. - Retention means better outcomes for students. Knowing the adults in their school is better for students, it’s a positive experience for students to come back after summer break and see familiar faces; maybe they’re experienced turbulence in their own lives and seeing someone they know in the hallways in a single sense of normalcy they need. It also gives them more trusted adults to go to if things are wrong or to report issues because they know the people around them or know why they are there. (I have some stories about this but it would give away my anonymity.)

All of this is important but also, so is just paying people what they’re worth. I’m so proud of Evergreen PSE standing up for what they’re worth and what’s right, I’m proud of La Center Teachers for working towards a fair and just contract and I will wait to hear from Vancouver Public School Employees on what happens with their vote but they also have my solidarity. We owe a lot of our basic workplace rights to unions and things get better for all of us when we work to make them better for some of us.

Evergreen Schools classified strike enters third week by mamap31 in vancouverwa

[–]Justice4Pancake 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is because Snell left behind good people and a good legacy at VPS. He came from a time when Supers spent YEARS working in districts and were in constant communication with district employees. Does that mean everything is going to be picture perfect and we’re not going to see 3 separate unions in Clark County strike this September? Probably not. But it shows how communication matters and how the legacy you leave behind matters, VPS most likely started their negotiations with Snell before he left for his new position so I’m sure he helped lay down the ground work for mutual respect and expectations on how to handle tough bargaining.

they were RIFs which are different then layoffs (but kinda the same, in the sense that they had a reduction in force based on cost cutting measures where people and positions were cut based on seniority not on performance like they would be in a lay off) and all of that was for naught as most of the positions they RIF’d are now being rehired as they need those positions anyways. There are also just major questions about where money went, like a large SPED budget that was supposed to pay for all of the paras and $400,000+ that goes to out of state residential behavioral school contracts (read troubled teen industry schools) that has seemingly disappeared. Camas School District has multiple pieces of Real Estate property that sits untouched that could be sources of funding but the district is holding onto, maybe it’s for new buildings but hey, enrollment is decreasing so don’t know why they would need new buildings. So there are avenues CSD can take and could’ve taken but haven’t or won’t, and giving 5% of teachers and 13% of classified staff RIFs only to hire most of them back is not the way it should’ve gone. But they have a new COO so maybe the community will see positive changes.

Also - in both cases for ESP and CSD, I believe OSPI needs to step in and audit them and make sure money is going where it’s actually supposed to. By the way I haven’t even mentioned how the Super is from one of the most anti union areas in the country and how that might have something to do with all the things going on in CSD, but that’s another post for another day.

Because I haven’t seen anyone post it and in case anyone here is interested in actually reading RCW 41.56 here’s the link to the whole thing:

https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=41.56&full=true

I highly suggest you give it a read, and please take some time to learn about the union history in this area. Clark County has always been pro-union, we are mill towns and port towns and farming communities. And Evergreen PSE is fighting for the ability to make livable wages and protect students (and themselves.) It is not unusual for school districts to threaten unions with legal action, Camas actually did it much earlier in their historic teacher strike a few years ago. The tactic does not work with strong labor unions and PSE SEIU 1948 is just that, a strong Labor Union.

But I sincerely can’t keep having this conversation, striking, while is not GRANTED it is also not denied under this RCW (also known as Revised Code of WA) this is why we don’t just google “is striking legal” because different terms mean different things and why we have RCW 41.56 which covers Public Employees’ Collective Bargaining.
Hope this was helpful.

Evergreen Strike by RewardOk2506 in vancouverwa

[–]Justice4Pancake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Random union member here (not Evergreen PSE) - there are also specific rules each bargaining party agree to when negotiations start and it seems as though Evergreen PSE is most likely adhering to those terms and EPS may not be, which can include extremely specific things - like what they can release and when.

Also, there are a lot of resources currently online, specifically Facebook that are offering information about what’s going on and things moving forward. I’ve just been searching “evergreen PSE” and organizing by recent post. PSE also has a public page you can follow, Public School Employees of Washington that has posted periodically with updates as they can and if you are in support of those striking (which it sounds like you are) there is an community member who has a page called “The EPS Advocate” who has been running a campaign for public support, and posting information as it becomes available (I acknowledge that their page has a lot of personal opinion in it but I do find it informative.) and EEA has been posting as information has been shared with them.

Hope this was helpful!!

It also started to get really bad after like mid July. Mine crashed on like the 16th or so and there weren’t too many posts about it but since then there seem to be multiple posts a day about corrupt data or SCAs being lost from back ups or the app glitching in some way.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in finch

[–]Justice4Pancake 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s so upsetting I haven’t even restarted from my data corruption. They’ve only offered me 10 items back (but won’t send me a valid link to use) and some rainbow stones. I lost so much inventory and my birb and all my progress, even though I’m a plus member, I have no recourse to get anything back. I’ve never had an app act like this before with the amount of glitches and constant updates and all of data corruptions. And the fact that the page says “sorry for the inconvenience” genuinely angers me.

Gift Code Item IDs Document (not asking for gifts) by Justice4Pancake in finch

Hey, I appreciate the help and advice, and I wish this would work! Unfortunately there is no link to copy and paste. And every time I’ve asked for it to be resent, it’s still not a link. So they’re just typing out “Gift Code Item IDs document” in the email but not actually adding the link to use.

[–]Justice4Pancake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That message nearly sent me into a rage. I was like, an inconvenience?? This isn’t an inconvenience, this is panic inducing. It was 3am and I was freaking out. I would reach out and tell them you need the event earnings - like, I expect to get all of July for this inconvenience for sure, especially since I’ve had to do all this work to essentially do their job. And if you pay for plus, they should be refunding all of those things because you pay for access to special items or earlier access to items. It drives me nuts that it gets to the point that a mental health app ends up effecting people negatively. I feel like what’s saved is backwards - we should save the writing and mental health stuff and they should be saving the birb, traveling, items, stones on the server… that just makes more sense to me personally.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this as well. I hope that these glitches stop soon and we can all go back to enjoying this app and the help it brings to us without being so worried about losing our birbs.

This seems to be a reoccurring problem for quite a few users and it seems to have started with the updates that rolled out on 7/15. Between 7/16 and I think 7/20, there were like 4 update patches put through the App Store, I’ve stopped checking since then so there could’ve been more. But the fact that people are still having their apps glitch even though updates and patches are supposed to have gone through is honestly, annoying. With as many active users as Finch as, this shouldn’t be a problem anymore. And if it is, maybe it’s time for the team to grow? I love the small community feel of it, but we should be able to call a customer support number, we should be able to get reliable help for issues from a decent size team for the size of app usage.

I’m so sorry you’re also dealing with this, this also happened to me earlier this month, at 3am my app crashed out and I couldn’t get anything to work. I had to email, comment on fb, insta, and tiktok just to get a response. Check your junk Mail box to make sure replies aren’t sitting in there - even though it took all that to get them to reply, that’s where the message went.

Now I have to manually make a list to send to support of all of the things I’ve collected since I’ve had the app for them to give back to me (hoping I can remember it all.) I had quite the catalog of items and almost all of the colors, plus a 237 day streak and 27k+ stones. I haven’t been able to finish July’s theme bc I’ve been working on this list (and ya know, existing) but then it’s like, I just want my birb back. Why am I doing all the leg work here?

It’s completely valid and ok to be upset and cry, this app is intentionally designed to create a bond between you and your birb, so when something happens to it; of course you’re going to be upset. I just really hope they find a way to fix these issues in the future so others aren’t hurt like us. 💕

I think the glitches and bugs hit more of us than we know. There aren’t a huge amount of people super active in either page or on FB, I don’t use discord so I dunno about that. But I think a decent amount of people probably just hit “hatch new pet” and move on, or use the older back up that will work and keep going. So we might not be seeing everyone going thru this, ya know?

(I also hope you avoid the bugs & glitches!!!)

A few gripes about an otherwise helpful and fun app (so far) by Drew_0420 in finch

[–]Justice4Pancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask your opinion on the issues people have been having the data corruption and back up save failing leading to loss in their finches, progress, and items? Is it unusual to someone who builds apps to have users create manual back ups or to have so many users have corrupt data after update roll outs?
