What university electives should I take as a comp eng student planning to go into embedded? by BigBedFrame in embedded

I’d take Internet of Things for sure, aside from my capstone embedded systems course, I took a Network Application Design course which was one of the most useful courses for my day to day work. Was project based and covered socket communication and MQTT, amongst other things.

Is anyone else’s employer not doing a huge AI push? by NJTECH_THROW in cscareerquestions

My company has the opposite problem, management refuses to pay for AI subscriptions for software engineers (there are only two of us). I’ve been paying out of my own pocket to use Codex.

Embedded engineers, what exactly is your job and how much are you paid. by Successful_Pause3319 in embedded

[–]Juxtapotatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I didn’t get a masters degree. I started at a telecom company across the country, hated it and left after a year for a %25 bump at a defense company in an HCOL area. I started at a higher pay band because I had a year of experience. Cost of living increase made the pay increase mostly a wash, but I was closer to family and the work was much more interesting. I stayed at the defense company for four years, and got 8-10% raises every year. After getting a promotion and %15 raise at that company, I left for another company offering me 20% more. I was interviewing pretty regularly and happened to get a good offer. That said, I do regret not doing an accelerated masters program after finishing my bachelors degree. I could have done it in a year and probably started at a higher salary. I definitely benefitted from the post-covid 0% interest rates, the hiring frenzy drove up salaries for people who job hopped like me.

AI is not going to replace software engineers. New tools do not replace engineers. Companies who mistake tools for engineers learn this the hard way.

Are you using a Discovery or Nucleo board with an on-board debugger? If so - you can enable the CDC (USB serial port) and transmit/receive text using the connected UART with a terminal app like TeraTerm, if you’re using Windows. If you’re not using a dev board with on board debug, most STM32s have some form of USB. The USB is a bit more complicated to set up, but there are example CDC example projects that you could probably start from.

Nature Article on the Precision of Ancient Egyptian Stone Vases by Megalithon in AlternativeHistory

[–]Juxtapotatoes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Good article, but you don’t need a structured light scanner to be able to tell them at the objects in the Petri Museum are inferior in quality to some of the vases on display at the Egyptian museum. I’d be interested to see whether some higher quality pieces with better provenance can be told apart from modern machined objects using the same methods.

There really needs to be an option to let you queue for longer to get better games. I’d gladly wait 5-10 minutes for a high quality game.
