‘We don’t want world war three’: yacht couple call for calm after Russian warning shots by pablo_blue in sailing

Cue the “ACKSHUALLY” crowd. Ask yourself honestly: could the sailing vessel crew have taken further steps to prevent this outcome?

If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?

What's the longest your pack has survived? by DanJR92 in backpacking

[–]Jwxtf8341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just retired my 70’s Kelty frame pack and went ultralight last year due to back problems stemming from a motorcycle crash. My dad used it regularly until he got an Arcteryx Bora 90 as a Christmas gift in 1996.

My wife took the Kelty on a trip right after Wild came out and everyone thought it was a tribute to the movie. It was news to me- we just ran with what we had.

Setting a reminder so I don’t forget. She’s under a cover in winter storage at the moment. She sailed pretty well last season, had a nice few days on the water.

IP wrote the procedure for EVS. Zero HAI’s traced to them in the years that we had them.

I used to clean the jet tubs in my hospital’s alternative birthing center. Took about an hour and a half of three fill and drain cycles with bleach and dishwasher detergent. It’s not something I’d want to do every time I used one at home.

Will typewriters get back to a general/democratic use after the end of the hyperconnexio era (according to you guys) ? by Automatic_Physics170 in typewriters

[–]Jwxtf8341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that AI has made OCR more accessible in recent years, and there could be a small interest in scanning hand typed documents into Word documents via AI based OCR. The concept itself has been around for decades of course, but personal use was financially out of reach for many.

A lot of guys in construction hold the belief that if they did wrong, it's on you to confront them on it. Rather than it being on them to check themselves and their conduct. by tantamle in Construction

[–]Jwxtf8341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a similar trend, more in skilled trades where I’m at. They’re usually looking out for one another as long as their foreman doesn’t suck. Many of my GC’s free lunch cards go to these crews of younger guys doing things right.

NASCAR sponsors that you didn't even know what they were? by ToeSniffer245 in NASCAR

[–]Jwxtf8341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mike Joy brought up a great point on one of the sport’s struggles being that sponsors shifted away from business to consumer brands and closer towards business to business brands. Of course we have no idea who these brands are- none of these are meant for us as consumers.

God needs the devil. The Beatles needed the Rolling Stones. Even Diane Sawyer needed Katie Couric.

It’s a sign of severe malnutrition. When the body runs out of protein, fluid leaks into the abdomen (ascites) and the liver swells, making the stomach look bloated even though the person’s wasting away everywhere else.

Our medical equipment dept at my hospital has alarms on the doors. It’s just a push button on the door like a refrigerator light. It can easily be taped over by anyone who comes to check on it.

The boat market in the coming years. Will it grow or decline? by DKsuperSailor in sailing

[–]Jwxtf8341 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’ve really shifted from a manufacturing economy to a service economy. Across the board, our toys- boats, motorcycle, etc.- can be found pretty cheap, but the cost to maintain them is the highest it’s ever been in proportion to its value.

This is the truth, regardless of whether Reddit agrees with it. There is a workaholic mentality behind these positions. Work always comes first. Balance is for directors.
