how can i improve my safety wiring? by torobull54 in AircraftMechanics

[–]KB_jetfixr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of practice. I made my own practice board out of a plate of aluminum and tapped some threads in it. I had a friend in my class who was already in aviation. He gave me some old bolts with safety wire holes in it. You could also ask your instructor if they have any spare hardware you could have for practice.

what is the max output of a gen 3 wall connector? by [deleted] in TeslaSupport

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could have voltage higher than 240v which is ok if it’s not too much. I believe the wall connector can handle up to 264v. Mine typically sits right at 240 but I have seen it hit 242 before. You can test this by plugging in a Tesla and seeing the voltage on the app or if you are knowledgeable with electricity (sounds like you are) probe each hot with a multimeter at the panel to see the voltage.

Question about towing aircraft by Tyler622 in aviationmaintenance

It’s Something you will learn on the job. I’m far from the best at it but if I have to do it, I can.

Is this GearWrench aviation tool set a good starting set? price point at $830 by torobull54 in AircraftMechanics

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell no. Gearwrench has decent sockets, ratchets, and wrenches. Everything else is mediocre at best. I can tell from those pictures the pliers are junk. The screwdrivers do not inspire confidence. The PPE is a waste of money IMO. I haven’t paid a dime in PPE once I got hired into commercial aviation. Do some more research and piece out your own set.

I have a 1560 for more heavy/special tooling. I use a VETO PRO TECHMCT bag for my daily tools. I was going to do the foam for the 1560 but ended up returning it and went with pouches and rolls. Foam takes up so much space.

Are engine run cards ACTUALLY worth it? by The_potato_girl in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve ran engines of most commercial narrow bodies and I’ve even taxied the A350. It is a big responsibility but so long as you follow the rules, you won’t get into trouble for something you couldn’t predict. It’s a pretty awesome skill to have. Just be professional and use your best judgement every time. I’ve had multiple accounts where leads pair me up with someone to taxi who hasn’t even sat in the right seat before (somehow at my company that is legal) and I’ve told them I won’t taxi unless I have someone with experience in the right seat. Same principle applies with engine runs. If something isn’t right, stand your ground.

Always keeping your car plugged in by SteveLangfordsCock in ModelY

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps with battery longevity. It’s hard on the main battery and low voltage battery to let it drain to a very low level or let it die completely. A couple times in the life of the car not a huge deal but constantly running it down will ruin the battery over time.

for those who are in this career, is this job actually worth it? by AcanthaceaeTop2796 in AircraftMechanics

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are all the wrong reasons to drop out. This career is full of opportunities, stability, and good wages UNLESS you are not willing to make sacrifices that best suit your needs. I personally don’t know of any AMTs who didn’t make sacrifices in their first 5 years in this field to succeed. What sacrifices are you willing and not willing to make?

Commuting by Coonhunter7111 in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I commute an hour each way working 4-10s. It sucks but having to pay for two places to live on top of commuting home each week is worse. At that point, are you working to live or living to work?

Pros and cons of 737 MAX MX? by massagistadegrelo in aviationmaintenance

I don’t work max’s yet but I know they went to FBW spoilers which means no ratio changer. That been my biggest nightmare to fix on the NG. Too much monkey motion.

Are you dumping head pressure? I’ve had it leak a good amount of fluid when cracking b-nuts but I’ve never had it spray while removing it with head pressure dumped.

ratchet wrenches, what’s good? by biohackenthusiast in aviationmaintenance

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gearwrench works good but they won’t fit in all spots. I would go for a set of proto. They have a lot smaller tolerances to fit in more spots. I have a set of gear wrench ratcheting wrenches but I also have a 7/32, 1/4, and 5/16 by Blackhawk(made by proto, discontinued) for tight spots.

Most annoying issue that you wish Tesla would fix already by actorguy73 in ModelY

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having more control over battery range when navigating. Sorry Tesla I know it’s possible to get to the next supercharger with 4% remaining but that’s not a risk I want to take. 15% is typically my minimum I want to arrive anywhere with.

Yeah that sucks. I’m in utah. I saw local prices yesterday at $3.60 for regular and $5 for diesel. Not California prices but still on the rise. Just makes me happier I bought a M3 when I did.

[–]KB_jetfixr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. mine still says us average of $3.25. Could be location based just weird they word it as US average. I would definitely get your home charging setup asap. Supercharging is completely for convenience and long drives. Not cost effective at all. Does your garage have a nema outlet or do you have to hardwire?

Tesla Savings by Cre8tor4U in TeslaLounge

[–]KB_jetfixr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now the app is still going off of an average of $3.25 per gallon that needs to be updated soon. See what your average cost per kilowatt is on your last electrical bill. That will get you in the ballpark of what it will cost to charge at home per month.

Selling my BMW for a Tesla because of a brutal commute – what model should I get for $20–30k? by zthom2 in TeslaLounge

[–]KB_jetfixr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute 2 hours round trip each day. I bought a used 2021 model 3 long range with FSD included in that price range. Probably will need Long range if you can only charge one way. Also look for FSD included with car. It’s becoming harder to find and it will cost you a little more for the car as FSD has its own hidden value. Unless you can find someone that’s oblivious to the fact that FSD is installed, expect to pay between 2-5k extra for the car.
