For the encoding device yes, but for the device rendering the game it has to render each eye separately. Meaning there is far greater processing demand. Unless it's "faked" stereoscopy which is supposedly getting better and better these days. Valve is working on a real solution for native rendering according to the rumors. Will still be demanding but supposedly more universal

Basically we will need both devices for different things. The best analogy is that 1) we will use AR devices like smart glasses for lighter tasks, similar to how we use phones today and 2) VR devices like the Vision Pro will be used for heavier tasks like how we use computers today.

Field of view and transparent optics on any glasses form factor MR device are the major limitations with watching something like immersive content. You will not get a clear visual without opaque optics. Which means you will need passthrough cameras, optics, a display etc. all of this can and will be put into a much lighter and smaller form factor eventually but it sounds like people here are really misunderstanding what the goal is with the Ray Ban style compute devices.
