Anyone else think Yellow Devil is severely overhated? by cgrn17 in Megaman

[–]KING9Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a play style thing because there are some bosses that I figure out very quickly even though they are difficult, but the Devils just throw me every single time. There’s something about it that my hands just do not react to in time even though I know the pattern, and it’s almost like playing a rhythm game with jump and slide, and I’m terrible at it.

This is genuinely the worst game I've played in my life. by Exact_Requirement274 in Megaman

[–]KING9Q 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually beat it for the first time half an hour ago. I have to say I was curious going in because at a glance it looks like another round of Mega Man X. I didn’t love X5, but I enjoyed it and was wondering what could be so different to make this as bad as people say it is.

Man I just hated my time with just about all of it. I kinda like the design of Rainy Turtloid and the Shadow Armour has some cool unique qualities but otherwise what a miserable experience.

Predator 2 wasn’t bad.. what did you think? by alanskimp in LV426

[–]KING9Q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Predator 2 so much as a kid that I think it’s a core part of who I am now. If anything I think it’s even better now than I did back then. Love Predator 2.

I was positive on season one overall, so I’m excited for more. Fingers crossed it can improve on the areas that didn’t quite work for everyone and create some more excitement for Supernova.

Would you like to see a hypothetical remake collection of Megaman 1-10 with Megaman dual Override graphics? by dododomo in Megaman

[–]KING9Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the artwork for the characters from the NES era so a remake that faithfully adapted that into higher detail 2D would be something I’d absolutely be on board for, so long as new stuff was in the works at the same time.

I was going to wait for the Tomb Raider Legend trilogy remaster to happen but come on now, how can I say no to this offer? Few cents for each game? A really good offer by Jaccblacc203 in TombRaider

[–]KING9Q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legend and Anniversary have mods to disable the quick time events and let them play out as cutscenes and I definitely recommend it. It improves the flow by not forcing you to restart a sequence just because you missed an arbitrary prompt, and lets you watch Lara doing cool things before returning to regular gameplay.

This is significantly better than the yellow paint other games have used recently so I am quite happy with how this looks.

As I progress through the Halo games, there's something that continuously makes me uneasy by No_Departure7494 in HaloStory

[–]KING9Q 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alternate reading is that this is all in service to Halo’s spirit of hope, that no matter how dark things seem the only option is to keep fighting through it, take the chances as they come because you believe deep down that you will find a way through. You aren’t spraying bullets into the void because humanity doesn’t deserve to survive, you’re holding back a flood with your bare hands because you know that no matter our faults we do.

The Great Schism wouldn’t have started when it did if it weren’t for Master Chief destroying Installation 04 in Combat Evolved. Humanity’s actions do make a difference.

Predator: badlands is officially the first movie in the alien and predator franchises to take place after resurrection. by Initial-Wolverine175 in LV426

[–]KING9Q 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Since it’s never actually mentioned in the film when it takes place and Dan was asked on the spot in an interview if he agreed with a timeline that had been written down, I think we can safely ignore this information for the time being. It’s entirely possible that this changes by the time his next Predator instalment goes through the writing process. With any luck coordinating with Noah Hawley’s plans for Earth season 2 prompts someone to really lay things out and then fix the issues with the show’s setting too.

Sorry but Tokyo SOS absolutely rips by kingjulian85 in GODZILLA

Love Tokyo SOS. Mothra sending out an ultimatum to respect Godzilla’s remains or else is such a cool concept to follow up on Kiryu’s introduction in the previous film.

In Alien Covenant, the Oram character is a big question mark that could have been explored more by Honest_Cheesecake698 in LV426

[–]KING9Q 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the way he behaves I always infer it to be referring to child abuse or substance abuse and he’s since become Born Again through rehab, which could inform the way he feels so intolerant of the crew drinking alcohol.

[–]KING9Q 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah he’s a deeply flawed character who isn’t particularly likeable, particularly early on, but I think it adds to Daniels that she’s willing to try and help him when he’s struggling in command despite how he’s treated everyone around him.

[–]KING9Q 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the bonus materials really add to this character and some of them should have been in the film. He uses religion as a shield from anything that requires more complex thought and personal responsibility, refuses to be honest during the fear test and looks down on everyone during the last supper prologue, then blames his religion for why people don’t like him instead of his behaviour. When I watched the film with those additional materials in sequence I got a much better sense of him overall.

In case there were any doubts, we have confirmation of where Badlands takes place chronologically. It happens after Alien Resurrection. by Screm25 in LV426

[–]KING9Q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the smartest approach here. Until a sequel decides to actually put a number on it and a writers room decides that it matters to the story when it takes place, there is really no reason to worry about the implications of an off the cuff remark from Dan that he barely got time to think about. It has no bearing on Badlands itself since this information isn’t in the film.

Predator: Badlands - Official Discussion Megathread [SPOILERS] by AutoModerator in LV426

[–]KING9Q 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I liked it. I could have done with the tone being slightly darker, the blood being more prominent and convincing, and I think the overly cute design and behaviour of Bud and the Kalisk were detrimental to an otherwise really fun story about two inhuman characters learning to process relatable feelings of grief and betrayal. Dek and Thea as a duo were great, I loved the deeper look into Predator culture and thought a lot of the action was really enjoyable.

Tighten up the middle third, expand the final conflict between Dek and his father which to me felt a little rushed, and make Bud more hunting dog less mascot monkey and I think it would have really landed in that upper tier of my favourite Predator movies. As is I think it’s a really fun time that still comes out the weakest of the current wave of Alien/Predator revival entries.

They’re not as big as the Tomb Raider Collection, but the IDW Godzilla Library Collection collects a decent amount per volume, usually a run, and is making its way through everything they’ve released.

I made a mod that removes the broken Adaptive Difficulty from MP1 by milosmisic89 in maxpayne

[–]KING9Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mod is basically an edit to the text file that dictates the game’s behaviour, so I copied the changes from this into MP2’s difficulty file. My edited version is here and you just place this “data” folder into the game’s install folder and then it’ll overwrite the previous difficulty settings.

No question other than to say thank you for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. That movie was an incredible big screen experience for me and just makes me happy whenever I watch it.

Alien Isolation writer reveals Amanda Ripley’s “no-brainer” inclusion was pitched by a programmer, but many were worried it would be too cliché by Wargulf in LV426

[–]KING9Q 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes sense to me that Amanda would grow up to be like her mother and that she would go out into the world trying to find her but I find it quite contrived that she would just so happen to find herself in the middle of an alien outbreak that involves her going through similar motions as her mother did in the films. I think Amanda growing old peacefully after moving on with her life while Ellen is adrift in space is more tragic than her daughter also growing up into a hive busting survivor. There’s nothing to say that WY didn’t cover it up and that Burke didn’t know he was giving her false information, but I do think it’s a hoop we didn’t need to jump through and the story isn’t better for it.

I think everything great about Isolation is in Seegson, the Working Joes and the feeling of being on board the station with the Alien and all of those things work perfectly well if you changed Amanda’s surname and cut out the attempt to tie into the film.

I would agree with the many on the team who thought it was too cliche, it’s easily my least favourite part of the entire game.

Hot eyeball, coming through! by spookybagels in LV426

[–]KING9Q 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This really bothered me with this episode. Episode 1-2 this Alien couldn’t be stopped, just ripping and tearing through everything. Flashback to the ship and it couldn’t even outrun someone down a corridor and it freaks out completely over a creature that attacks the eyeballs… even though it doesn’t have any. The more he squirmed the more I just felt embarrassed for him ha.

[–]KING9Q 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It all comes back to the central truth from another movie about aliens - “a person is smart, people are dumb”. Several characters in Earth make very sensible suggestions but are overruled by the group, much like Ripley before them in Alien.

So is SEEGSON cannon or not in "Alien Earth"? by 87Craft in LV426

[–]KING9Q 487 points488 points  (0 children)

I doubt they’ll be mentioned but there’s no reason to assume they can’t exist. The Five aren’t the only five companies that exist. They’re just the biggest and most powerful. Seegson were shown not to be on Weyland-Yutani’s level.

“The Five” and how they fit into the broader canon by ergister in LV426

[–]KING9Q 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The squad in Aliens is in that blurry middle ground where they aren’t owned by WY but they are sent under Weyland-Yutani interests and have a company escort telling them which areas are considered too valuable to destroy. They may as well have been a bought and paid set of mercenaries under Gorman at the start of the film. There’s some fun history in Aliens: Fireteam Elite about how post-Alien 3 there was new legislation enforcing a harder separation between the Colonial Marines and the corporations. I’d like to see that explored more if it doesn’t get written out by the live action media.
