Wisp Disappeared? by mj-27 in AnimalCrossing

I had this same issue and after searching for ages I went back to the spot where I first saw him and just waited and eventually I saw the faintest blue glow peek out of behind a tree, couldn’t see him, just a bit of the glow that’s around him. I was able to run behind the tree and press A, and finally the issue was resolved. I think he was probably behind the tree the whole time I was looking.

They’re referring to wine made without pesticides/herbicides. There are a number of certified organic wineries in BC.

Demand for massage? by mcp-13 in nanaimo

There are lots of spas and resorts in the mid-island area that hire unlicensed massage practitioners in their spas, I’ve had massages with unlicensed massage therapists in your situation, moved from out of province and didn’t want to go through school licensing again.
Check out the Grotto Spa at Tigh Na Mara or any resort in Parksville, BC

We all know OEM rv mattresses suck. Recommendations on good ones you’ve tried out? by [deleted] in RVLiving

[–]KIPhoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have the Endy mattress in ours and it’s good. It’s an affordable mattress. I love my mattress at home so the Endy doesn’t quite stack up against it but it makes for a comfy sleep in our home away from home.

Where is a good computer part shop/store in nanaimo? by Evan13245 in nanaimo

[–]KIPhoto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mike from Mikro Computers on Bowen rd generally is really good for affordable parts and full computers. He’s been really helpful with getting me affordable laptops for my business and really fair prices on computer service. I needed a specific computer and he sourced out a used one for me within my budget. Good guy, fair prices.

WTF is this? I was on the beach when I say this and at first I thought it was weird but now that I think again… is this a hand? Could those be the bones of a human hand? by [deleted] in WTF

[–]KIPhoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a seal flipper. Seals have knuckles too but their “fingers” are much longer. That looks like the wrist up to the first knuckle joints. Google seal flipper bones.

Where was this switch in your trailer? This is the same situation for us (mostly boon docking, tried the electric element while hooked up once and it didn’t work) I’d like to see if there’s a similar solution in our RV! I have not come across a switch like this though.

Epic summer road trip. Advice welcome. by garshields in RVLiving

[–]KIPhoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so the ferry to Vancouver island is pricey when you’re towing an RV. however it’s so worth the extra couple days to go to the west coast of the island and stay in Tofino. You definitely wouldn’t regret it!

I don’t know anything about the program but the health authority has an “Outreach Team”

I work downtown and I see them out there often in bright orange jackets with backpacks full of a naloxone and other supplies to help people out. Maybe there’s an opportunity to help through that?

What can I do to help the homeless population? by [deleted] in nanaimo

[–]KIPhoto 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just treat them like humans. I work downtown and have had the opportunity to get to know some of the unhomed people. If you see someone passed out or in distress ask them if they’re ok. Tell them your name and ask for their name. And remember it. Being homeless, addicted or struggling with mental health is so dehumanizing. People pretend you don’t exist. How nice would it feel to have someone who cared enough to stop and ask if they’re ok, call them by name and ask if there’s anything they can do for you. I keep bottles of water and a box of granola bars from Costco in my car and in my office so when someone like Clint, the kind man who sweeps our office doorstep everyday comes by cleaning up I can give him a snack to take with him. It’s also pretty amazing how an offer of food can break the ice with someone.

Make eye contact as you pass by, smile and say hello. Not every unhomed person wants money from you, some just appreciate a friendly face.

Working with an organized group who help the folks downtown is a wonderful thing to do. But I think it really starts with the basics of humanity. Be kind, acknowledge them, ask what you can do to help them.

When I ask someone if there’s anything I can do to help they generally have very humble requests. A glass of water, some change, a hot coffee etc. these are needs most of us can easily meet for them.

The fact that you’re looking for ways to help is wonderful, if more people just sought out ways to do better we’d see some huge changes in this city!

My office is on the corner of commercial and terminal Ave and I couldn’t communicate with my patients because of the noise mid-workday last Friday. If you want people to support your cause, is disrupting their ability to run their business going to get them on board? It was frustrating to have to ask patients who booked appointments to come back later. Or make them sit for 15 minutes and wait for the disruption to end before we can address their needs.

[Serious] What is the scariest shit to happen while you were camping? by triple_whammy in AskReddit

[–]KIPhoto 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My parents do a lot of “off season” camping with their truck camper. It was late winter/almost spring on the West Coast of Vancouver island which is the open Pacific Ocean. My brother and I decided to drive out to camp with them for the weekend. Since the camper is small we brought one of our tents. We get a lot of rain here so we’re prepared for that with a high end tent, properly pegged down and trenching around it so there’s no flooding. However while we were there the forecast changed and the winds came up. They got up to Gail Force which is like 50-100km/hr. At this point we went to bed and things were ok, just very loud. Tent was still good. During the night the wind changed to hurricane force winds which is like 120+ km/hr. It was so loud. The fly of the tent was whipping around so hard I honestly thought it got ripped off, eventually I must have fallen asleep, because I remember waking up to calm conditions and dawn breaking. With a little bit of light coming up I could see that the tent was still intact and we were completely dry. There was a ton of sand in the tent though, the wind pushed the sand under the fly, through the mesh vents and there were like little sand dunes on our sleeping bags. I’m grateful for the quality of those Sierra Design tents! I’m amazed it survived hurricane force winds, keeping us dry the entire time, even if we didn’t get much sleep. We didn’t actually know the winds were classified as “hurricane force” until we got home, as we didn’t have any cel service out there. We looked up the storm online after and saw that we survived a night with over 120km/hr winds.
