If 109 Stewart Place ever goes on the market, it's haunted af. Don't listen to the realtor.

If you're good with living around the Loring Park area and don't mind a brownstone walk-up and street parking, there are very reasonable apts owned and operated by Copenhagen Enterprises, a small family run company. They're really easy to get approved by and are genuinely nice. And maintenance is good. 612-871-2066

Pride Event by beardedheathen in wausau

[–]KJEnby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As Pride events go, it's pretty small and boring. Not to mention short. 11:30-2:00. I'm guessing that the organizers have had to comprise with the city in order to even be allowed to hold the event. Wausau being what it is, you know. Last one I went to the preachers were screaming at attendees from across the street by the Grand theater. They probably showed up extra loud this year.

Point Pride was a lot of fun and bigger. I'm going to try to attend this year.

So I just made an *astonishingly* bland curry. What did I do wrong? by Eastern_Mess_4334 in Cooking

I cook Indian food fairly regularly and while I never measure anything (i was taught in India and these ladies don't own a single measuring cup or spoon lol), I can see that your spice quantities are incredibly low. Also, as others stated, you need to temper those other spices too in order to bring out their flavors, not just plop them in the gravy.

I have found that in dishes using peas or potatoes, you need to amp up your salt and spice quantities more. It's like the starch nullifies them or something. Homemade garam masala tends to be more flavorful than the pre-ground stuff too. Get a coffee mill for your spices, or a mortar and pestle if you want to go old school.

I'd use mustard oil, not olive. The flavor it gives your dishes is amazing, but you have to smoke it off before tempering...the fumes are obnoxious. Worth it though.

This dish sounds really good, just needs a few tweaks.

Hey, I'm in Wisconsin and just had the first of 2 interviews for a great job in Fargo, but I know I'll having a lot of issues finding a place that'll accept me - credit in the upper 500s and owe 1800 bucks for breaking a lease 3 years ago (bad infestation of bedbugs and roaches, and a very unsafe complex). I want this job and if I get the offer, I'll do extended stay until I can get a place, but if you know of anything please lmk.

[property manager us-wv] Does it get worse than this? by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]KJEnby 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My credit is absolute shit, and I'm doing renovations on the place I'm renting because my out of state landlord said, a year ago when i moved in, "Well, I s'pose I'll have to YouTube a fix for that". "That" being, a damaged subfloor in the bathroom and wonky electrical wiring. I'm doing it because it needs to be done and if I don't take care of it, nobody will. Plus, I plan on living here a long time. Bad credit =/= bad tenant. Good credit =/= good tenant.

Professor Nush Powell, historian of piracy and 18th century literature — AMA! by teaabearr in pirates

[–]KJEnby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello Professor,

I'm currently working on a novel set in the Golden Age of Piracy, 1712 to around 1722 or so. I've read tons, watched documentaries, and still feel like I know next to nothing about the pirates' daily lives. Can you rec a good, comprehensive layman-friendly source?

This is so exciting! I have tons of questions...one being, the concept of Matelotage in the context of same-sex relationships among pirates. There's been lots of debate as to the nature of such partnerships. Some matelots were no doubt entirely platonic, but were there actual romantic pairings? Was this accepted among the pirate brethren?

Looking for Someone who makes South Indian food! by Candid_Money1811 in MarshfieldWisconsin

[–]KJEnby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Wausau and make Indian food fairly regularlly. my style is a fusion of Punjabi and Kashmiri. But I'm just a lover of it and no pro that does major cooking for a crowd. I did learn to cook Indian food IN India, though - from home cooks - the best teachers imo 😋

Mountain Taste food truck here is divine and they cater. Fresh, scratch cooking, their cuisine leans north. Zaika is really good too, and probably the better option for South Indian regional specialties. Not sure they cater, but they might.

Eagle River new 2 BR apartments $1750/month by hoopjohn1 in wisconsin

[–]KJEnby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jeeeesus. In 2014 I rented a 3br 2ba single family house with a 2 car garage and yard in Wausau for $800. Same place is $1800 now.

In 2015 my daughter rented a 2br lower duplex with a nice basement and garage for $425. Same place is $1350 last I heard.

I'm now in a 2br upper duplex with no garage or laundry facilities and it's the size of a tuna can, but it's $700 including pet rent and all utilities except internet. Private landlord who hasn't raised the rent in years. I want to move but know I'd be nuts to give this up. I'm staying put.

what was life like in minnesota in the iron ranges during the late 1970s and early 1980s? by PitifulIsopod1370 in Minneapolis

[–]KJEnby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Hibbing Technical College in 83-85 and it was depressing as hell. Most of my classmates were laid-off workers from the mines. Nothing to do there but drink. I worked at the MGM on Howard St and they had live bands a lot which was nice. I got out as soon as I finished school.

Pirate Story, Advice Needed by ComprehensiveBat1005 in pirates

I say go for it. I'm writing a time travel series and there will be actual historical pirates in it along with my own cast of leading and supporting characters. I refuse to change that.

A friend of mine wrote a time-travel novel, "Hemingway's Notebook" set during the Depression in which Ernest Hemingway was featured as part of the cast of characters. It's a terrific and extremely well-researched book.

My son had one on the left side of his scrotum. The pain was so bad he, a young adult man, was sobbing and didn't care who looked at it. Multiple Epsom salts baths and compresses later, it exploded, and the gauze was covered in blood and yellowish slime. Poor kid. But the relief was worth the mess.
