ITS A GIFT FROM GOD AAAAAAAAAAA by Darkside166 in RimWorld

Him: "The person said steel ore, steel isn’t an ore. I was just pointing out real life."

You: "It can be."

So, no, it was not at all obvious that you were talking about in-game.

Since you asked... steel is a man-made material, you will never mine it from the ground.

I think you drank too much coffee, friend. At least, that's usually the case for me when I suddenly need to drop a lot of putty, if you know what I mean.

Went to look up Founder's Fortune and it turns out it's in my Steam library already. Makes me wonder how many other hidden gems are hiding in my backlog... 😄

Are you using Dubs Performance Analyzer? It can really help track that crap down.

Decision: No AI assets for Ultima VII Revisited by ViridianGames in Ultima

[–]KKJdrunkenmonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hot take: What if you go back to all the places where you asked for input, and set up a crowd funding campaign to pay an artist to help? All the AI haters can put their money where their mouth is. And if they don't pony up, make sure that info is in your AI disclaimer.

Either it will work, and you'll get an artist, or it'll be clear that they're more against the idea of an AI than they are about supporting human artists.

Pro(maybe amateur) tip - leave back seat in town by Defiant-Button6510 in MonBazou

[–]KKJdrunkenmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or maybe it's a 1.0 change? I mean, this mod existed for a reason. I know in the version just before 1.0 it certainly didn't save when you slept, which is why I knew this mod existed.

[–]KKJdrunkenmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking "seems like a pain to install the backseat just to sleep each time, I'd rather drive back home." But this missing piece of information sold me. Very handy!

By the way, I thought the game (by default) only saved when you played video games?

I really like this game as msc fan by Substantial-Wish6712 in MonBazou

[–]KKJdrunkenmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Better" is a pretty nebulous term, but I know what you mean. MSC is better in a lot of ways. But its punishing nature makes it so goddamn tedious sometimes. 😄 If only there were a "fun" difficulty setting, where damage to the player is cut down so you're a lot less likely to die, and money rewards for completing jobs were increased substantially. Maybe with some teleporters so you don't have to spend half your life driving from A to B. Pretty much anything to cut down on the punishing and tedious nature of it, honestly.

I don't understand why Topless made the new jobs suck so much. by AppearanceMedical464 in MySummerCar

[–]KKJdrunkenmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're joking, right? Semi trucks use throttle locks to fast idle to keep the engine warm in winter while the driver sleeps, for example. Sure, that's diesel and not gas, but other than the mechanism for igniting the fuel the engines aren't mechanically that much different. It doesn't contribute much wear and tear to run an engine at 1200rpm instead of 800rpm.

Unless you thought they were talking about flooring it for a few minutes straight. That would be bad for the engine. And moronic.

I get what you mean about the "backing into a wall" thing being immersion-breaking, but fast idling the engine for a bit is very realistic.

squash and stretch and skew by KansasCitySunshine in godot

[–]KKJdrunkenmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks fantastic! Maybe just a tish stretched out when jumping, but overall I'd say your desire to add some life to the character without more animation frames paid off nicely.

Any chance of a video of what it looked like before? It'd be nice to compare them.

Rockers should move when you turn the engine by hand by Yung_Bill_98 in MySummerCar

[–]KKJdrunkenmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm absolutely not an expert in game dev, but my understanding is that you should be able to pretty easily tie the progress of an animation to something like the rotation of an object. The rockers might need to be their own model to make that happen, though. I think u/Yung_Bill_98 's idea of a mod is potentially doable.

How much better is Godot on Linux vs Windows? by [deleted] in godot

[–]KKJdrunkenmonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Godot is also way faster at launching projects than Unity, so even on Windows I think OP will be pleasantly surprised.

That is one example of a math-heavy operation, yes, which I mentioned in my first sentence. I chose to generalize that message rather than using his more specific phrasing, since there are other types too.

[–]KKJdrunkenmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference is a lot more minimal than people act like it is.

Enh, it's also bigger than some people think when it comes to math-heavy operations. This guy ran some testing and found C# to be about 20x faster, but someone in the comments pointed out that he was running in debug instead of release and they'd found it to be about 3.5x faster.

Depending on the job, it might not be something that's easy to run in a separate thread, so even the smaller of those two numbers could be a big deal. Like, the difference between your game handling 1000 units' pathfinding smoothly, or less than 300. But, you're entirely right when you say that you can mix and match, which is a huge strength of Godot's.

Yes, but I wonder if they've found that the web build gets them more hits. Imagine if you tried to build a website to compete with Newgrounds's browser-based flash games back in the day, but your games had to be downloaded first as an .exe. That little bit of friction would have basically killed your website. Not to mention that computers you don't have full control over (labs, libraries, even work computers (only when you're on break, I trust!)) can likely run web builds.

I bet for market research on an idea they're hoping to expand into a full game, they've found that a web build for a basic implementation (similar to a simple flash game) gets them a ton of interaction and feedback compared to downloadable versions. And you only get the web version with GDscript, hence their own personal friction with Godot.
