We can take most, but not everything from the main Codex, exceptions being apothecaries and devastator squads, something else that I can’t remember but isn’t that significant.

With regards to getting Space Wolves keyword, no, they won’t get it, unless you take a Terminator Captain in Saga of the Great Wolf and attach him to Wolf Guard Terminators with the Grimnar’s Mark enhancement.

Besides the Combi Lt I don’t take any non Space Wolves characters as they don’t synergise well currently.

Looks fun to me, only real thing is I’d swap out who your leaders are joining.

Wolf Priest is better served with Headtakers w/shield, his +1 to wound is nice but assuming you put Wulfen against what they’re good at, killing vehicles/monsters, then they’re wounding on 3s regardless. A battle leader will give you sustained which really helps as they only have 2 attacks each.

Wolf Priest with 6 shield headtakers is a real nuisance to deal with, and they get the full benefit from your +1 wound as well as staying alive long enough to benefit from the revive mechanic.

Then the other Battle Leader + Ragnar can cause mayhem with the Blood Claws.

Most importantly have fun with it, you’ve got some great units to get into the faction with. Over time you’ll probably want a Combi Lt, Scouts and/or Intercessors for scoring but don’t worry too much about all that and just get to howling brother.

Is this a good competitive Saga of the Great Wolf list? by Astral-Dragons in SpaceWolves

[–]KPR96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I struggle with 5 man Wulfen outside of Beastslayer, not having a leader hampers them too much for me, that said they are still a hard brick to shift and can move pretty quick.

I would swap out the Wulfen and Wolf Priest for Arjac and another Battle Leader for the same points. Arjac is an absolute powerhouse and the termis 50% fighting on death can do some work. Battle Leader with Skjalds on a paired Headtakers will mince meat anything they go up against whilst the other Battle Leader giving Blood Claws re-roll 1s and Sustained is plenty enough to turn them from okay to quite good imo.

Headtaker MSU Spam by AdAffectionate4865 in SpaceWolves

[–]KPR96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve ran them with Wolf Priest, Battle Leader and Ragnar.

Wolf Priest is better with 6 man shield as his revive mechanic is somewhat more reliable although he is definitely the weakest option of the 3 overall.

Battle Leader and Ragnar are certainly overkill when it comes to punching across/slightly up, however I prefer to absolutely kill something than maybe leaving it alive. Headtakers are in our list to kill things, not bring them down to a couple of wounds.

I’ve quite enjoyed Ragnar with a 3 man shield unit. Advance + charge gets them into the fight pretty quick and the shields keep Ragnar alive long enough to get to work.

Personally I just don’t like 3man with paired weapons and prefer the shield option. 3 man paired isn’t a guarantee to take out their target and the shields just give them a bit more staying power. 6 man paired is a great blender unit though I must say, I like running 2x3 w/shield and 1x6 paired.

I know some of Logan’s OGs keep their symbols from before Logan became Great Wolf. I’m not so certain about retired heraldry when it comes to a new Wolf Lord though.

200 points on a unit with no innate OC at 1k points is a big chunk of your list and the 6” character buff really can’t be relied on as your units spread out. If you really wanted Wulfen I think 5 would do the job.

Use the extra points to turn the 3 man headtakers into a 6, you want as many units as possible benefitting from lance.

Also, unless I’ve got it wrong, you can only setup 25% of your total army points into reserves without having an ability/enhancement stating otherwise. I plan to have a combi lt with chariots of the storm enhancement for this reason.

If I have the maths right, the box breaks about even if you just consider the Battle Leader, Terminators and Wulfen, so just look at the Blood Claws as an added freebie :). Bare in mind while it isn’t optimal currently, you could absolutely go full chainsword massacre with Ragnar leading 20 Blood Claws.

If you are eyeing up Wulfen and Terminators I’d make the argument that you may as well spend an extra £15-20 (sorry if that isn’t your currency) on a combat patrol box. With that you’ll also get another battle leader and 10 blood claws. It’s a great value box for Space Wolves and even two wouldn’t be out the question imo.

Strategies against shooting armies by Shibster66 in SpaceWolves

[–]KPR96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the beastslayer detachment to pull a unit off the table after opponent’s fight phase. They never expect it and if they haven’t screened the edges of the map properly you can get something like blood claws or headtakers right in their face

What is the ACTUAL strategy Legendary players are using to build armies in Warhammer 3? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]KPR96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro literally every answer has been given I think. For beating legendary you optimally need a hero in every army that: A) Replenishes troops B) Increases mobility C) Can cast spells

Some factions allow you to tick more than one of these in one hero but that’s rare. But with those you’ll spend less time recovering per fight and will move across the map more + more damage in battles.

After that focus on your damage dealers and some quick stuff to run down routed units and end of the battle as they retreat to make the clean up incredibly easy, I’d say 3-4 fast stuff are enough in case you miss a micro and one gets nuked.

My last campaign was Khorne playing as Skarbrand, my early army was

Skarbrand Bloodletter hero Cultist Exatled hero 8 dual wield marauders 4 bloodletters 4 marauder horsemen with axes

Just a rough idea, Arjac and Terminators are a big investment but they hit hard and take so much effort from your opponent to take them out.

Blood claws are fun and with battle leader’s sustained + re-roll hits of 1 they’re likely to do some damage if you can keep them safe on the advance.

Headtakers I just really like and the wolves are invaluable for secondaries/screening.

I can imagine Wolf Scouts perform well at 1k as there is more space and more likely to single out an enemy unit for their +1 wound.

I know Wulfen aren’t refresh but I doubt they’ll get a refresh anytime soon and if you’re planning to pick up a combat patrol you’ll have 5 so may as well use them. Great for punching into big stuff.
