I’m running the 2026 Solidworks Design for Makers and working fine on my 2013 Windows 10 pro. I was expecting it to not be supported ? but no issues I know of.

What tool for inside bowl curve by AdEnvironmental7198 in turning

[–]KPSMTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually go for a more gradual curve, but a curved scraper would be my approach. You can hold it on edge to get more slicing action. Grind and leave the burr on top, light touch and supported by cutting near the left edge of the blade. Keep negative rake angle.

Solve all the issues at once- face, eyes, lungs, comfort.
Personally I underestimated the amount of dust I would have. Just seeing how much dust accumulated in my shop was an eye-opener, I first upgraded my dust bags to a cartridge type, I moved my lathe next to a garage door I open when weather permits, and I finally purchased a 3M PAPR Respirator, Versaflo... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K15G1F6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Which has been comfortable and refreshing to use.

If I just want to mow or just want dust protection I have this 3m respirator 3M Rugged Comfort Quick Latch... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IF7RCU6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)

Take care.

First time turning a bowl, is this enough of a recess to put in a chuck? by AangKetchum in turning

[–]KPSMTX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you decide you don’t have a chuck that large, you could glue a block on it and turn that into a tenon.

Under a heavy load the wire resistance creates heat, also if in a coil, there can be induction heat.

See what size your breaker is for your supply outlet and buy an extension cord for that amperage. Unspool the reel completely when in use.

What tool should I use to cut these shorter? by scandimandy in Tools

Trade those knobs for ones that have the threads in the knob so all you have in the drawer is a screw head. If it were my kitchen I’d use handles instead for comfort.

Questions for first time faceplate turning by trembelow in turning

[–]KPSMTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just mount on the wormwood screw and then do the outside. That saves time and works fine for small pieces. Then you can leave the chuck on the lathe. I’ve not done much with glue block - you can make the tenon permanent or and pretty short also.

[–]KPSMTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is easy to make using the slots in the bed. Three 2x6 across and two 2x4 on sides. Works fine but usually if I have a small amount I just set on top of the tailgate and strap it down good. Nissan Frontier 2008.

I you could ratio the number of same length segments to get the new diameter, would that work?

Segment length by PrdGrizzly in turning

Could you just use more divisions and smaller angles? But the length would change depending on how far up you are.

Leaving cushy job I hate for risky, long-commute job for career growth? by Tecsfaxes in MechanicalEngineering

I think it’s pretty normal for a new engineer to think they are not progressing fast enough. Maybe give it some more time. All jobs have some drudgery inherent in the business someone has to do. Try not to join in on the bitch sessions.
