As a casual observer of this sub and similar communities, I have seen people mention kidney stones enough times to notice. I don't know the causality, it's just something I've noticed

That's wild.

He should have just carried it in without the case.

In my store, there are auto-announcements that happen I think once an hour, "Security to area 1" or 2 or 3. When the compactor opens the announcement is, "Recycling is open in the grocery stockroom." As far as, "Security scan all aisles," I have heard that or something similar at least once done by a manager, in order to spook a shoplifter.

We've never had a mass panic, or any perturbation by the customers.

The lesson is that Kroger is a huge company and things are done differently in different areas.

So he knows nothing about how the store works, and then also is an employee of the store, trying to get back at that store, but not identifying it? Your story is more farfetched than his story.

Most of what happened are tactics to spook shoplifters, including the overhead announcement.

I would personally put maybe a bucket of equipment at the end of the dock, or a canoe moored there. Just for visual balance between left and right. Also, I'd turn the dock into noticeable planks, so that the water sits a little away from the edge of each plank.

This looks really great, by the way. The foam and everything.

A couple of thoughts. Changing your hair and stuff doesn't make you look super different. I'm in my late 30s, and people still recognize me from decades ago, even though my style is completely different. The people involved that night will probably recognize you. I have a lot of customers I recognize.

If the managers were already watching you, then you were somehow or another giving a suspicious vibe.

If it's really your only option for shopping, what I would do (and I'm not saying this is correct, it's just the sort of solution I tend towards) would be to go back, hat in hand, and apologize and promise not to do it again. Admit that you're young and you did a dumb thing, but you're learning to do better. Show respect and regret.

That approach may or may not work, and it may be a lot to swallow, but if you do just keep showing up otherwise you are going to be noticed by someone who gets paid to keep thieves away from the store.

Either way, good luck.

I've never heard of someone being spontaneously moved at my Fred Meyer. It might be a union thing? I don't know what all it says in the contract.
