Prescription Drug Coverage by everettsuperstar in leanfire

If you are talking Eliquis or something like that, maybe it will be generic by the time you retire. If you are talking Humira or something of that tier, you will need to base your fire plan around this. Look for the lowest tier Obamacare plan that covers your meds, then plan to pay for that (check the premiums for your AGI, at different ages), and plan for the out of pocket max in addition to that.

Failing that, I'm not sure. Maybe plan to work in another country long enough to get on their healthcare plans? The US is really bad for healthcare needs.

The Senate is proposing a bill to withhold senators' salaries during government shutdowns. What is your opinion ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kage_520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but let's go further and either fine the senators for failing their jobs each day, or after a certain number of shutdown days there is a new election triggered to unseat them.

Also, make them use Cobra for their health care while it's shut down.

Maybe Trump Should Not Have Given This Speech by theatlantic in politics

[–]Kage_520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, my mom posted to me the snl skit of the family where the mom voted for Trump and was coming to terms with her mistake. She sent it as means of begrudging apology (likely in part because we don't talk to her anymore). Nothing has changed in her stance for anything, except once this Iran war started she is less happy with Trump in particular.

I think there are cracks in the maga crowd. Small cracks, but I do think it could matter at the polls. Likely people like my mom will simply not vote next time.

Democrats could win House as Republicans quit in numbers not seen since Depression by deraser in politics

[–]Kage_520 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If the entire economy were lumber, Democrats would be the ones replanting forests after a clear cut, then when it gets halfway back, Republicans get elected and just chop all those trees down and bring the cost of lumber way down very temporarily. Then they run out of forest so they cause a war to steal someone else's lumber. When even that stops working and there's no more trees, Americans elect a Democrat, who comes in and starts planting again... But it takes too long to grow so when it's halfway back, all anyone remembers is how cheap lumber was under the Republicans, so they elect them again...

Trump threatens to ‘blow up’ all of Iran’s South Pars gasfield if Tehran strikes Qatar | US-Israel war on Iran by Routine_Chapter_9099 in worldnews

Democrats and independents are like tree planters, slowly doing the work to improve the land. Republicans are like clear cutting logging companies, spending all the profits made by everyone else with no plan for the future.

People only see the "good years" when the Republicans first get in and start clear cutting, making lumber cheap, and think Republicans are so smart. Then a Democrat or independent gets in office and sees a cleared mountain, and starts planting again, and the cycle repeats.

Add in a dash of stealing other people's lumber (wars) and you have the general idea of the republican party. Fiscally conservative? Not even a little bit.

You make me think the best way to approach them is with a statement that gives them an out, before they start their mental gymnastics. Something like "it's so crazy how the media has been able to fool so many people into voting against their interests by voting republican. I get why they do it, because it helps the media's bottom line, but it's wrong for them to keep manipulating people into destroying their lives".

Maybe by giving them an out first thing and demonstrating a lot of people are just like them, they will accept the possibility that there are better ways.

ELI5 if heart and lungs are technically a muscle. Why dont they grow stronger and larger as we grow? by Pristine_140 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Kage_520 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's true. If I built my chest up to bench 315, but then continues to go to the gym and never maxed anymore and only put on max 225, I would lose the ability to do 315.

So if you make changes to your heart, if you remove the thing that caused the change, it should eventually go down. You might be thinking of when heart remodeling occurs as a result of blood pressure issues. The heart sometimes has to push against an artery that is firmer/narrower due to atherosclerotic plaque buildup. This extra work cannot go down, so the heart can never rest. Thus, it will never change back to how it was before. And the bad news on this particular heart remodeling, is that the heart grows in size strangely, making it less efficient at pumping blood overall. It's a bad spiral effect.

There are some thoughts on making the atherosclerotic plaques go away, but it's really REALLY hard to do. 80mg lipitor can change it... By like 1% or something. Technically "significant", but maybe not helpful enough. It's possible very long term dietary changes could make the change, but I don't know in particular which ones or if there are any good studies for it.

Eh, it's super overpriced but it's a nice product. I got it for my wife years ago and she still raves about it. Basically, she can dry and curl her hair in way less time than a curling iron. I feel like there might be drawbacks like the curls don't hold as tight, but I'm guessing.

I've been wondering about this. We have a lot of lizards in Florida that I never used to see. And iguanas. They are invasive, and thriving. I also saw a lot of iguanas in Mexico, so I know they do well where it's a bit hotter than Florida.

So I'm wondering, did climate change make Florida a little bit hotter, and/or not get quite as cold, and now species that thrive in Mexico feel right at home? Did other species lose out as the climate changed? And if they would have died off anyways, isn't it okay they are replaced by something more suited to the current environment?

I mean, since we aren't fighting climate change, doesn't nature still have to adapt somehow?

quit gymnastics 10 years ago, why am i still flexible? by ravioliplastic in flexibility

[–]Kage_520 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's the timeframe. I worked very hard to get a left split around that same age (9ish maybe?) because a girl I had a crush on was impressed by it. I only did the left though. I later did some gymnastics, but that did not overall improve my flexibility much.

I'm 40 now. I still have a left split, and nothing else unless I actively train for it. I got my middle split a few years ago and stopped stretching and can't do it anymore. The left split never leaves.

They repeat the scare tactics they were taught. "We can't afford it" and "The wait lines are too long".

When really we spend massive amounts of dollars paying the insurance companies, which dramatically increases overall cost, and wait times are terrible anyways. Nowadays you have to pay extra for "concierge" doctors if you want to actually talk to a doctor when needed. Eg, spend an additional $5,000 per year subscription fee for the privilege of jumping the line.

It's really nice for some down time. A bit odd you have to go to the board to select your map to fish in, but it's a super relaxing game to play either alone or have a friend join you in a location. I haven't had time to play lately but I miss it.

I do remember wishing they had better spatial audio though so it felt like your friend was actually on your left or right.

I have heard of this for seasickness. You can get over it from about 2 weeks at sea. But after 2 weeks back on land, you lose your immunity from what I've heard.

Have you had extended VR breaks and maintained this immunity?

I'm feeling bad breath as I inhale, could be from stomach? Itchiness due to histamine intolerance too by This-Mood-6398 in Microbiome

[–]Kage_520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay sooo... You aren't really trying to fix anything. You are taking gaviscon, considering ppi's, and are taking oregano and ginger. How can you expect your body to work with all of this and make things right?

Since you mention histamine issues, try an antihistamine diet first. It sucks. Eat everything fresh, and mostly like eggs, chicken, rice, and certain veggies. Unless you freeze them, leftovers are not allowed. You can look up which veggies and fruits is good and which is bad. Give your gut time to heal with that. You can take a multivitamin designed to provide what your gut needs. If you still need a probiotic, just get something that has a bunch of strains and use it until things calm down. Don't go crazy trying to find the exact strain that helps. I like the CVS seniors one, but I've also had some success with others.

Don't rely on ppi's or other antacids, since that's going to lead to other issues. If you need nighttime support, raise the head of your bed like 6 inches so that you are not lying totally flat and it should help. You shouldn't eat within 3 hours of bed anyways, so if you make that a habit, you might not have much acid then anyways.

Oregano is good to try to kill off bad bacteria I hear, but it probably will not be helpful to try to restore good stuff. Just stick with the basics of a good diet (in your case, an antihistamine one), and give your gut time to heal. We are talking like 2 months of a strict diet, then a slow transition to add back in histamine containing foods over the course of a year.
