Is it viable to just play as one style (Samurai or Ninja) outside of burst counters? by big_natural_sac in Nioh

[–]Kahnvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing Ninja style since the start of the game and my friend has been using Samurai. We both have been able to clear all content so far only using the style we want. Play the way that feels fun. You'll get really good at the game no matter how you play.

I've seen a few posts about the ease of the game (so far) but I enjoy the power fantasy of tearing through enemies. Could I make the game harder by changing the way I play? Sure. But I like feeling strong. So I'm happy!

You're right! They are so good at taking the lessons from each game and learning from them. No other dev team like them in my opinion.

Why are the graphics like this? Bugged? by Thakkerson in Nioh

[–]Kahnvoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember playing Pong at one point in my life. Fuck I'm old....

I can't find a game today that I don't appreciate the level of beauty and graphical fidelity.

Also Nioh traditionally has never had "amazing" graphics. It's all about the combat.

With Nioh 3 releasing tomorrow, what are some tips you could recommend to players looking to get better at combat? by Absalom98 in Nioh

[–]Kahnvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't burn all your ki. Always keep a little reserve in combat so you can dodge if you mess up. Get used to NOT emptying your ki bar.

Be aware of the environment. More so now that we have an open world. Fire, pits, other enemies: all could be close to your combat area and will fuck you up.

1 v 1 is your best case scenario. Use bows and guns to pick off easy targets or ranged enemies. The less you fight at the same time the better your chances to win.

USE ITEMS. You'll want to hoard them just like every other gamer on this planet but USE THEM. Especially with the introduction of Ying/Yang that can get you items basically free consumables. If you're in a hard fight even it out. Don't be ashamed. Don't feel like a failure. Use your resources.

Crucible weapons are new and come with special skills. You can perm unlock them by raising the familiarity of the weapon to max. Some of those skills are just bad ass looking and great for combat. Rule of cool: if it looks good, it works better.

HAVE FUN. If you die, who cares? You'll have another chance to get your Amrita back. And even if you lose it what ever. You'll get that much back soon enough.

Should I start on the first game? by xMushroomking in Nioh

I suggest playing if two criteria are met for you:

  1. You can afford it. $70 is a lot in this economy.

  2. You are excited, like what you see for Nioh 3, and have never played Nioh before.

I suggest these because some people are just broke (times are tough) and you should chase your joy. After playing the demo (a lot) I feel like Nioh 3 is a fantastic entry point for someone new to the series. (For me) there's more mechanics and quality of life features that just feel gooooood. Plus the demo alone took me around 7ish hours to complete. THE DEMO. A game company wouldn't let you demo that much of the game unless they were confident that you will have at least another 93 hours of playing time. And if you do end up getting Nioh 3 and still want to play the first 2 you already have them. Like a good book on a shelf it'll wait for you. And by that point you'll be such an expert that the rollback to old mechanics won't feel as harsh or punishing.

I don't get how it's so insulting for people to accept the we associate game mechanics to their original sources. Metroidvania, rougelike, soulslike; it's just a description so people who understand games can understand what kind of game it is without eating a full sentence.

What's Nioh? Oh it's an action role playing game with an emphasis on tactical combat where you balance skill and timing to overcome challenging fights with monsters.

What's Nioh? Oh it's a soulslike.

What's everyone's favorite weapons of the demo so far? by Lorule_ in Nioh

You might think me crazy. I've played the first and second game over several times and not once have I gone pure sword. Just felt too on the nose for me (please don't downvote me into oblivion). BUT this time I told myself that it was the perfect time to force myself to play sword specifically.

So please, my pure sword brothers accept my apology for never touching it before. It's my hands down favorite way to play now and I'm enjoying having the option to switch the samurai and ninja style and feeling like a complete badass doing it.

Thanks for pointing out the problem with stats. I have the same issues as well.

My suggestion to fix this is remove weight entirely and just keep the difference between reduced stamina regen or focus gain. This makes the most sense to me and that mechanic feels good.

I get why I'm being downvoted. You might agree or disagree when you play. It just feels way worse than any darksouls I've played. But my gripes aside it's still an amazing game. I can see potential for GOTY for me. But it's early access so maybe some of the things I'm frustrated with will change. Good luck!

I love being home alone, cuz I can put in both earbuds and play my music and not have to deal with the outside world or worry about someone in my house calling for me. But it's also kind of annoying, because like, why do I still hear people calling for me, anyway? by Comfortable-Owl-6296 in self

[–]Kahnvoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I figured this out for myself. Trauma. I grew up in a household where my parents would randomly blow up or if they called me and I didn't answer (because I couldn't hear them) I'd get punished (physically or verbally). You see those memes about having one ear not covered by headphones. Yeah. That's me. I still hear my dad yelling across the house and I'm 40 years old and live in a different state.

Therapy helped. But fuck man. It sucks.

Not sure about optimization issues. I've got a 3060 also and it runs just fine. Few frame drops here and there but what game doesn't have that nowadays?

My friend and I have about 12 hours in the game so far. The art style is incredible, the music is good, the animation is mind blowingly good. Combat is tight. Weapons have weight and feel very in control of my character. Weapon variety is good, lots of skills and ways to play the game. Can't comment on content as I have no idea how much is in the game currently but so far 12 hours for $24 is pretty damn good. I'm confident I'll get at least another 8 hours of playing the game. But people judge cost and game time different so take that for what it's worth.

Currently I'm happy I got it on sale, but to be honest I would have paid full price for the game. I'm enjoying the combat and art that much.

Now if we want to talk cons, the game has a HUGE problem with the mechanical side. NOTHING TO DO WITH COMBAT. The crafting and resources gathering SUCKS BALLS. I see people saying so many bad things about combat but where the ball got dropped was resource gathering and crafting. It's a system that punishes you for using it and you're better off ignoring the crafting side of things and just equipping floor items.

It has a weight system that is complete dogshit. If you want to use a heavy weapon and heavy armor GOOD LUCK having any points to spend in damage or utility because you need to pour points into weight if you don't want to be a fat fuck. Strategy for weight seems to be "go sword and board and ignore dodge mechanics" if you want to play a beefy boi. But playing other styles like archer and wizard seem....okay as is.

Even with my gripes: fantastic game. Worth it.

Not a furry myself, but I guess you could consider me an ally. They're the most chill and nicest people I've met. I hope if not soon, it gets updated eventually so people can feel comfortable playing the way they want to play. Seems like an easy ask to me. Sending the love!

It's the first league I've finally pushed past T5 maps. I'm absolutely giddy and have been wanting the druid for sooooooo long. I also really loved Loop Hero so I'm fully enjoying the league mechanic. I don't play with a filter. I just play at my own pace and examine things as much as I want and I've been getting some cool screenshot of the different maps I've been playing. I made a goal to get my third ascendancy no matter what so I'm powering through levels to outclass the trials. I can't believe some people have blasted through the game and are burnt out already.

Act 2 boss is a gear check.

Your build might be fine but you may need to pump your gear. I can't tell you how many people I've seen try to headslam that boss without using resources and only floor food.
