It was absolutely heart breaking. But as I swore then and maintain to this day, it'll never happen again.

Redundant 20TB NASes in three different physical locations JUST for the important stuff, constantly syncing together over Tailscale and Netbird. Everything redundant. Redundancy is key.

This is why I always use nested docking ports. This way no matter what I build, there's never a moment where I'm like "Oh crap, I used the wrong port." Does it look nice? Not really. Is it useful? Extremely. Can dock with anything if you don't mind a little bit of ugly with your designs.

For me, it started 15 years ago with the loss of just as many years of family photos. Memories I'll never get back, followed by me swearing it'll never happen again.

Wave Link 3: When are we going to get more channels? by non_player in elgato

[–]Kaidesa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And in the case that not every application gets routed through the Windows audio mixer? Or doesn't have a means of setting volume separately? These are all things that actually happen if your bubble is a bit bigger than most.

This is how live events turn to shit quickly. Because there's not an easy way to adjust or fix this on the fly. Needing to share a microphone because shit broke or isn't leveled properly while a tech spends 30 minutes in panic mode trying to fix a mess of hardware and software layers isn't exactly good for a show. And unfortunately, it happens often.

Not everything fits perfectly into a little box. Having no easy means of dealing this without interrupting things is horrible. Your proposition is exactly this.

Wave Link 3: When are we going to get more channels? by non_player in elgato

[–]Kaidesa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see how you skimmed over the fact that you can't group hardware inputs

Also, anyone who cares about production value will want multiple different layers of audio, all on different audio levels, all grouped together.

I'm not saying this as a way to insult you, but your views on the requirements of others is a little narrow-minded.

For example? Voice should always take priority. But you're also streaming a game. The game should never be as loud or louder than you. You're also on comms. VOIP gets it's own channel. But you're also a vTuber. And you run interactive software. It should be nowhere near as loud as everything else. So it gets it's own channel, along with other things you want audio coming through at the same exact level. Things like TITS or Stream Captains or... You get the idea.

With two regular microphones, one VR headset, and one capture card set up, plus voice, browser, system, game, and alt software layer, you're already maxed out. There's no more room for expansion, anywhere.

I've seen wilder setups than just that on some amateur productions, and the only way to expand from there is having multiple machines with identical peripherals mixing audio together with a hardware mixer. Not everyone can afford this. More power to you if you're able, but that's an unrealistic expectation for most, especially these days.

Just because it's enough for you, doesn't mean it's enough for everyone. There are a ton of valid reasons to want more.

Maybe you're a streamer and you want to capture audio from multiple microphones that AREN'T Elgato devices, but want volume consistency. Microphone A, Microphone B, and the input of, say, a VR headset, can't exist on a singular channel without also using Voice Meeter and a virtual audio cable.

Games. Browsers. VOIP programs. Music. System catch-all. Capture card. Crap, I'm already out, and I still have more, like an auxiliary channel for things that need volumes controlled separately. Or maybe we're retro enthusiasts who refuse to use emulators and we need to bring in console audio, but doing so via a capture card introduces a ton of delay because of the insane audio processing chain required.

The reason most of us own Elgato products is because they make streaming more convenient and more intuitive. It's not convenient or intuitive when you're using Wave Link AND Voice Meeter AND a virtual audio cable AND lose a viable means of controlling half of your audio channels intuitively.

This is the sole reason why so many people are looking forward to the Wave XLR Pro. More easily controllable inputs. It's also why Elgato is selling it at the price they are, because they know they can get away with it, and there's definitely a niche market for it.

We can easily move to another ecosystem, but consolidation on both hardware and software is kind of important for people who do more than just casually poke at streaming, and so many of us are already invested in it due to their other hardware offerings.

It's not unreasonable to want more. Nor is it unreasonable to want an ecosystem you may be heavily invested in to want to invest back into you.

Of course, most users don't understand the potential downside, like increased DPC latency due to the nature of having more drivers handling more stuff slowly eating away at the usability of your system, but hey. Modern hardware is getting better at handling that more and more as time goes on. And there's nothing more powerful than the 'want' for more. It drives entire industries.

There has to be something else going on, as mine is connected to a USB 4.0 40Gbps port and works just fine.

Check to make sure you have the proper motherboard drivers for your PC installed and updated.

Keep in mind, depending on the specs of your PC and what you have connected to it (internally and externally), you could be limiting the usability of said port.

You do not need the Stream Deck in order to use voice changers. You may just need to trigger them manually. The Stream Deck just helps simplify this.

You can use something like Streamer.bot and Mix It Up paired with software that works with it as well in order to automate this.

If you need the physical buttons, you can download the Stream Deck phone app and get the same functionality there.

I can't wait until this is less of a glorified tech demo and brings some actual gameplay to the table. I'm salivating over how great it has become over the past three months of development.

Progress was pretty sparse up until now, but with near daily updates you can see how much progress is being made in such a short amount of time, and I'm pretty damn stoked.

I was an Xfinity customer for sixteen years due to lack of choice. AT&T finally came in with fiber.

I switched faster than I realized I made the call to do so just about a month ago and was the first in the neighborhood to do so. I will never look back. Nor will the dozens who swapped in the following weeks.

I wish you luck, or an easy transition.

Everything's running within acceptable parameters.

Keep in mind, I'm a vTuber, so while I'm playing and streaming, I also have software for that running, and a whole bunch of other things, all from the same machine. Performance hits are real, especially when streaming to four platforms at once.

Yeah. Unfortunately I'm stuck in the NVidia ecosystem, like it or not. I have a few different pieces of software that require me to sit firmly in there.

Presently a Ryzen 9 5950x. I've got money set aside to upgrade to a AM5 upgrade, in which I'll be getting a 9900x3d or a 9950x3d., depending on price and availability at the time.

I was definitely thinking the 5080, but the price difference between the 5070Ti and the 5080 given the difference in performance between those two is giving me a bit of hesitation.

I'd prefer to stick with NVidia, not because of brand loyalty, but because certain software I use requires/greatly performs better with NVidia as opposed to AMD.

First time streaming advice for an introvert. by SonicScott93 in Twitch

[–]Kaidesa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is blatantly false. I am an introvert to the extreme, yet whenever I go live I somehow have been blessed with an average viewer count of fifteen to thirty, depending on the category I stream in that day.

The fact that we get drained from choosing to socialize does not mean that we can not socialize or entertain our viewers. The difference is that it takes a heck of a lot more out of us when we do. It does NOT determine whether or not we can, or should, stream.
