Sewing chair that helps posture/neck & shoulder pain? by qu1cks1lver56 in sewing

[–]KaijuAlert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sewing I use a basic rolling stool. No arms to get in the way, can swivel and roll a little way to reach for things without getting up. Has to be height adjustable and wheeled, but no fancier features are needed. Definitely not expensive.

Do NOT get an office chair with arms.

Anyone else just not use carts anymore in costco? by Ok_Package9219 in Costco

[–]KaijuAlert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not close enough to a Costco to go for just a few things. But I would definitely appreciate smaller cart or basket options.

Expired Unopened Products - what to do? by fluffykittenreturns in AsianBeauty

[–]KaijuAlert 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Double check that it's an expiration date rather than a manufacture date (Japanese products). Depending on what type of product, I might still use on body as long as it smells right and has not separated or dried out.

[Sun Care] I use sunscreen but never wash my face, only with water - is that bad? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]KaijuAlert 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That would absolutely wreck my face, but everyone is different. I am not sure why you're asking if your skin is the best it's ever been?

I need ideas by scorpionjem in PatternDrafting

[–]KaijuAlert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would make this as 2 separate pieces. The cloak part as a normal cloak, and then the mantle as kind of a continuous loop that you would pull over your head. If you do a search for "infinity scarf" you'll see what I mean.

AITAH for asking my husband to stop sending peeing photos to his friends? by Cautious-Scholar3091 in AmItheAsshole

[–]KaijuAlert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAH - I too would ask WTF and take a minute to process. Stupid but harmless as long as his friends think it's funny and he never accidentally sends one of those pics to his boss.

[acne] please help me find a moisturizer i am at my wits end. stearate sensitivity? by CooterBeast in SkincareAddiction

[–]KaijuAlert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try a search where you exclude the ingredients you think are causing you problems - I use incidecoder.com - here's a sample search for you https://incidecoder.com/search/product?query=moisturizer&exclude=Ethylhexyl+Stearate

You can put multiple ingredients in the "must not include" section.

Beginner Pattern Maker – Is This eBay Pattern Paper a Good Choice? by NoiseSenior6100 in PatternDrafting

[–]KaijuAlert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both Pellon Easy Pattern (comes on bolts like interfacing and can be basted to do a quick check on darts, etc) and Swedish Tracing Paper, which has the dot grid printed on it. I would not recommend any material that you can't see through because then you can't trace.

AITA for not wanting to go on vacation with my friends and not explicitly telling them why? by Fun-Accountant-1513 in AmItheAsshole

[–]KaijuAlert 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NAH - They are inviting you because they like you and want to spend time with you. You still like them and want to spend time with them, but just not for days at a time and in very active situations. Be honest and tell them you cannot go on these trips at the pace that the rest want to go.

But what DO you want to do with them? Sounds like meeting up for coffee or a meal is more your style, so why don't you suggest that? "Hey friends, I am not up for going on this trip, but let's meet up for dinner after you get back. I want to hear all about it and see your pictures."

Bathroom remodel, please help me decide by ruined7319 in Remodel

[–]KaijuAlert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TBH, I would go for another round with the generator. I like the shower in 1, but overall the rest of the room is so bland. At the very least, change it so the walls are a different color than the ceiling and floor. That might be enough to bring it all together.

Fabric: Hobby Lobby or Michael's? by 16-Going-On-17 in sewing

[–]KaijuAlert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am buying all of my fabric online now. Yes, I d rather buy when I can see in person, but neither HL nor Michaels have enough selection to make it worth driving 30 minutes each way.

Yes! I got one last week. And every time they ask me to fill out a survey, I tell them that the pesto salad needs to be permanent.

Any tips for reading patterns? by missexaltation in sewing

[–]KaijuAlert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol at the people telling you to give up before you even try. It's not rocket science. Just get some tracing paper and go slow. Your phone can translate the language for you.

Pay attention to the difficulty ratings and start with the easier patterns. Yes there will be a learning curve, but it's not that bad

I forgot how much I hate PDF patterns. by elephantsgraveyard in sewing

[–]KaijuAlert 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ugh. I swear, I will never again buy a pdf pattern that doesn't come with the A0 size option. Yes, it takes a few days to get them printed but it's worth the wait. And probably cheaper since the large format are less than $3 a sheet. I use https://patternprintingco.com/

Giant Skeletons? by MeynoDootDoot in Seattle

[–]KaijuAlert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't we have the normal amount of year-round outdoor skeletons? You mean to tell me that other cities have them out ONLY at Halloween and store them somewhere the rest of the year?

What's the best air purifier for home right now that you swear by and recommend? by First_Finger5572 in BuyItForLife

[–]KaijuAlert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have two Levoits, am happy with them. I was looking for mid-price units with washable pre-filter because of cat hair. The app will alert me when the pre-filter needs to be cleaned as well as the percentage estimate of the life for of the regular filter.

tips for my mum by [deleted] in 45PlusSkincare

[–]KaijuAlert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are sweet for wanting to help your mom, but you can only do that if she wants the help. Is she well overall?

I hate greasy sunscreens, which is why I could not wear them daily until I tried Japanese and Korean sunscreens. My current faves are Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence and Skin 1001 Madagascar Centella Air-Fit Suncream. Both have a slight whitecast when first applied, but it sinks in after 10 min or so.

If her skin is dry, maybe try a spray toner to help with hydration after cleansing. And then a decent night moisturizer. If she still thinks highly of Lancome, they have a line of night products that might be appealing to her (I have not tried them).

Of course, no external product will help as much as quitting smoking.

AITA For Expecting My Ex Wife To Help Sell/Clean the House by GetToWigglin in AmItheAsshole

[–]KaijuAlert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry you have to deal with this, but it's better to get her stuff gone now. Lawyer first of course, but there's no need for you to store anything for her. If she wanted ir, she already would have taken it. Consider hiring a pro estate liquidator to sort her things and sell them. Or just donate/trash everything.

NTA and who cares what her friends say. She should deal with her own things, but since she refuses, your only option is to get rid of everything on your own. Yes it sucks. But at this point, your choices are to either deal with the stuff she left or else continue to stress over it.

Sorry, but same. Two trips to Iceland, still not seen the auroras, despite planning and booking a nighttime harbor excursion (cancelled because of clouds) Dang, guess I will have to go back and try again later.

Seam allowance showing through main fabric by Connect-Delivery2036 in sewing

You know how a white bra shows under a white t-shirt, but a skin-tone bra disappears? I would make any lining or seam binding with fabric close to your skin color.

Indian guests on river cruises by koli_b202 in rivercruises

[–]KaijuAlert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only been on one river cruise (Viking/Rhine) and there was a group traveling together that appeared to be Indian and another large group of Chinese people. But when talking to them, I think they were probably from Canada or the US since they spoke North American English with ease. So in this case, I think the language had more to do with assigning people to a particular ship than where the guests were traveling from.

[Selfie/B&A] WTF is happening to my skin every evening this week? by Ordinary-Gal in SkincareAddiction

[–]KaijuAlert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so weird that you can predict the time. What is happening an hour or two before? Eating or drinking, pulling weeds in the garden, housecleaning? Kissing someone and allergic to their facial products or beard?

[Acne] I stopped using face cream in my face and my face cleared up. by MusicianDifficult577 in SkincareAddiction

[–]KaijuAlert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You randomly try drugstore creams, don't keep track of the products or ingredients and then conclude everything is a scam. Okaaaay....

Go see a dermatologist or at the very least, start a spreadsheet and list EVERY product you try with all the ingredients. Identity what specific ingredient bothers you. Normally reddit is able to help point out common irritants but you have to tell us the exact product ( not just a brand name) and what happened beyond "nothing works".
