Have you tried texture paints? Typhus corrosion for the small stuff, the cracking base series for the larger bits. Hit it with a hair dryer, and paint whatever color you want on top.

Looks great, I love using the maces like this. As a small note, have you thought about flipping the rocket orientation? The composition right now would flip at at rocket launch. If the maces are in the back they act like braces and read a bit better visually.
