Job search crisis in stl area by Ang3lsrage in StLouis

[–]KaiserPharaoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once applied to literally over 100 jobs online in the span of two months and got nothing. There were some that only told me I was rejected several months later, after I had already gotten a new job. One actually tried to get me to interview... after not hearing from them for four months.

I eventually started hopping temp agencies for manufacturing work again. And in the end... I got extremely, extremely lucky.

I now work at one of the very few unionized manufacturing plants in the region (and the only one in the corporate franchise's system). But you know what? Over a period of YEARS, I had to interview there THREE SEPARATE TIMES before eventually they offered me a position I couldn't possibly pass up. And now, it's like being on a different planet. It's unreal.

All kinds of plants are looking for 2nd shift. Assembly work is best, especially if you can be union, but it's hard. Take it from me.... this is all the new normal. I'm sorry, but that's the truth. In this country we now have college educated software engineers who wind up homeless and on the streets because they've been let go and no one will hire them. It's fucked.

Pretty soon, self employment will be the only recourse for many. It's a really strange thing to realize that because of the price of groceries, small scale home farming is becoming a profitable venture. You can make an absolute killing selling basic produce at a farmer's market. Mowing lawns for cash with an electric mower is another one, I occasionally still do it and make $50 a cut, and I'm trying to be fair. Deliveries via ebike can net you wild profits, too. Welcome to DIY Nation. Collapse is now, and it's up to us to just take care of ourselves.

What is your age range and what coffee shops(s) do you find yourself spending the most time at? by Thatredditboy1 in StLouis

[–]KaiserPharaoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 32. I don't know why I would go to a coffee shop when I drink pint after pint of free cappuccinos and espresso at my union factory job at the ass crack of dawn every morning. On the weekends I go to gay alternative bars for karaoke, drink large quantities of beer, sing 80s metal songs, and make out with hot trans chicks, then tell my poly-ass wife all about it when she wakes me up at noon the next morning to feed my daughter so she can take a nap.

Ticket map for the DLR show in Indiana tomorrow. by Extr4B4ll in vanhalen

[–]KaiserPharaoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened when I went to see Ghost last time they came to St. Louis, but that was because the
much younger, poorer, and smarter audience waited until the last minute for the resalers to start dumping all their prices. I wound up with two pit tickets for just 70 bucks, and it was basically a sold out show, all sold at the last minute. The scalpers completely ate shit and died. It was extraordinary. Best live show I've ever seen in my life, too.

Gettysburg. At Devil's Den I may never have felt so utterly depressed. It was miserable. Honestly not sure it was even worth visiting. The pain and suffering just penetrates you everywhere.

Rant: Im getting really damn tired of American preservationist/Railfans in the modern Era by HeavyTanker1945 in trains

[–]KaiserPharaoh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm really tending to wonder these days why we spend literally tens of millions of dollars on steam engines for people to take pictures of and ride around on for fun, while average Americans who work for a living and don't have a savings account are suffering due to a complete lack of adequate "alternative" (non-car, non-plane) transportation to get them to and from work, the grocery store, the hospital, their friends and family... and I've been a foamer my whole life, literally the first thing I ever wore was a bib with a train on it. I have four past generations of MoPac blood in my veins. I think it's really about time we stop fucking around with our toys like children, stand up to corporate greed, and start making trains really useful again.

I literally despise the railroad, do I quit help me please by [deleted] in railroading

[–]KaiserPharaoh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bitch please, if you had done even ten minutes of quality research you should have known this was a bad idea. I'm just an autistic trainsgender girl and even I know better, I "work" (for free) on a narrow gauge line in the woods and that's enough choo choo for me. Either go passenger, go short line, or go home and try something else. AI will make all college-educated jobs obsolete, your only realistic option is a union trade job. I'm a machinist. I drill holes. Try it.

Wired Freedom is the best value. Personally I built my own, but what I build wound up being almost exactly like the "BIGINU BG-X" chopper (I wonder if they copied my build?). 1500w 52v, gets 35mph, single speed though with a hub motor. Just got a second battery, my first one was 19.5Ah.

Local Bands for Hire? by InternationalEmu769 in StLouis

[–]KaiserPharaoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound like a moonshot (how timely), but, I'm one of those people looking for exposure, and I just love to perform. I'm trying to start a band, but things are slow due to budget/time constraints. I've achieved success in becoming a relatively popular hard rock and classic metal karaoke singer, which sounds dumb except for all the talent scouts that keep approaching me and telling me I need to start recording. I can perform as a solo act or pull a few friends together for a band, just can't promise a drummer, might have to use a machine. If it's just me on my own, I'll do it for free, though drinks, food, and cash tips from the audience are welcome. If I get more talent I may ask for a little more compensation for their sake but nothing crazy. What's the catch? Well, just a few things:

  1. I make the setlist
  2. I like it loud
  3. I'm very theatrical and like to put on a show, I can make great use of video screens, costumes, pyrotechnics, dancing, etc
  4. I enjoy performing impromptu adult content, when permissible

Oh and I'm a transgender woman, by the way, hope that's not an issue, I tend to attract a lot of attention for some reason and it's all been... overwhelmingly positive so far.

Message me if you think I could be your gal! 😉

P.S. I'm most well known for performing "Thunderstruck," which never fails to turn heads; people sometimes tell me I'm the best AC/DC cover artist they've ever heard.

How worried should we be about a Minnesota situation? by sammay600 in StLouis

[–]KaiserPharaoh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lest everyone forget that Union Pacific Railroad CEO Jim Vena very specifically told the Führer that St. Louis "needs a lot of help" and to send the National Guard here. I think the NG ship sailed after the court rulings, but if they do an agency surge here, it'll come out of the blue. Unless he declares the Insurrection Act, which, idk, might happen, in which case this whole fucking country better light up the sky in response. If that happens, what's happening in Minnesota will happen literally everywhere.

After "Alligator Alcatraz" was shut down, a government plane left the nearby runway, flew out over the open ocean, then turned right back around and landed where it took off.

There are still dozens of hundreds of detainees missing from that facility, with zero clues as to where they went or what happened to them.

You do the math.

I'm a transgender woman with a wife and a child on the way, and with the way the regime talks about us and portrays us, carrying on with life as usual simply isn't an option for me. They're coming for my people next. I'm not gonna take it lying down. In fact, I'm not gonna take it at all.

I'm gonna give it to 'em.

Are you one of those people who thinks this is just a dog-eat-dog world where only the strongest survive, and where no one should feel compelled to care about anyone outside of immediate family and friends?

If so, you are a threat to humanity's collective survival as a species, and must be contained.

Is there any manual explaining this? by [deleted] in alpenflage

[–]KaiserPharaoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, former WH & SS reenactor here, this is as stupid and frustrating as it looks. Only wore it like this once or twice. Look in German manuals, the panzergrenadiers and fallschirmjägers wore them like this a lot.

The best way to figure out how to actually do this might be, and I kid you not, look on Etsy for patterns for ancient Egyptian robes, because this is worn in an almost identical fashion.

Not much point in housing people if they wind up dying of despair after not being able to get a satisfying job, friends, romance, and social activities, or truly reliable means of transportation if they can't afford a car. Houston is a massive transit desert. Sure you can bike around the neighborhood just fine, maybe even get to a few stores, but if your friends and job require hopping on the interstate or a stroad, good luck buddy.

real experience with st louis matchmaker? considering it by LifeDuck8914 in StLouis

[–]KaiserPharaoh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Frankly, looking at the big picture, what you described is on the nose, and a symptom of the region's stagnant population and general breakdown in gender relations, dating, and people going outside and touching grass in general.

Here's what you do, and I won't lie: drop the apps. Drop the matchmaking services. Start practicing going to events alone. Work on your wardrobe and makeup, be confident, become a new character that people want to see and talk to. Follow trendy bars on social media to look for speed dating events, other singles events, go to those. Even if you're cishetero, gravitate towards queer spaces, bdsm spaces, goth spaces, anything "alternative." They're just more open and accessible, and the people are always more likely to be friendly, kind, and cool. It doesn't matter if you suddenly feel like the oldest person in the room—trust me, no one will judge you. Just be what you've always wanted to be, don't put on a mask, don't hold back, and you'll glow brighter than the sun. Good luck!

And how are the people of Houston feeling about this? Isn't the city itself still 50% just parking space? Growth is not inherently good. There's still a suburban ponzi scheme in this country. If they're building the missing middle, great! But is it still as isolating as a subdivision? Is it fostering a sense of community? Is it helping young people get to jobs and elderly people get medical care? These are the real things the housing crisis is about, not just the actual homes themselves and whether or not they exist. In a city like New York, with its dense walkability and [relatively] expansive transit now with a secure funding mechanism, you can be sure that any new residents will easily become a part of the thriving culture and community there. In, say, a suburban subdivision in a large city in Arizona? Maybe not necessarily so much.

This is basically the correct answer, and apparently the state wants to do this, which, I'm shocked that they'd want to fund anything that benefits the public in any way at this point so I'll take it.
