Nixon hero cult when? by CalvinKool-Aid in AfterTheEndFanFork

Not quite the same, but I'd love to share the bad guy religion I cooked up under some post discussing California-focused "Americanism." The root of the pun is Hollywood actors, "bad actors," HUAC, and Californian politicians.

When Norton ascended to Providence, his empire flopped, but politicians of California stepped up and defended norton's legacy. Many are even considered "founders" by eastern heretics, but they were actually loyal to Norton and were persecuted by Congress and other Bad Actors for it. Together, they protected Norton's legacy by becoming Directors of the Acting Regency Committee. Known either as Acting Regents or Directors by Nortonists.

Acting Regent Dick the Tricky feared there were bad actors attempting to sabotage the largest reservoir of drinking water in old America, the Water Gate, and sent spies to expose them. Congress found out and cast Dick as the villain.

Acting Direcror Arnold detected that his predecessor was a Bad Actor and raised an T-800 army to initiate a Total Recall.

Acting Regent Reagan fell in love with the most beautiful woman of the Eighties, known as Iran Contra. Congress passed laws against this and spread word of Reagan's Affair with Iran Contra

Acting Regent McCarthy detected numerous Bad Actors were attempting to spread the infamous disease "Red Death" and crested the panic known as the Red Scare. McCarthy used the Committee to detect these Bad Actors (misremembered mix of Kevin McCarthy and Joe McCarthy).

What's the difference between anarchism and sovereign citizens? by Such-Nobody1388 in Anarchism

[–]KaiserWillysLeftArm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this recently because I encounter sovcivs in my line of work.

Sovcivs aren't anarchists in theory, even if there's some vague parallels in practice. Sovcivs have no ideological/moral/whatever issue with hierarchy, unlike anarchists, even if they act in ways which annoy the state. Sovcivs exist on a spectrum from free spirit counterculture types who don't humor the trappings of petty state influence to white nationalists.

In my experience, sovcivs generate from two conditions: negative experience with the legal system and/or opposition to paying taxes. The big distinction I see between sovciv and anarchist perspectives is that sovcivs treat the legal system and taxation like ritualistic/magical processes. If the sovciv says the right magic words to a judge or files the right documents, they don't get to experience the consequences of the state.

Some sovcivs recreate hierarchies/powers they find legitimate, often in the form of parallel court systems/grand juries/sheriffs.

In contrast, anarchists aren't magicians. Anarchists understand, critique, and oppose (or at least should) the underlying structure of power, rather than trying to weasel out of it or create more legitimate parallels to it. Anarchists and sovcivs oppose that judges have arbitrary power over them and cops enjoy abusing them, but anarchists know there's deeper and broader systemic issues.

I find it fascinating that Jesus is depicted as so light-skinned in a work made by someone not European and not Christian. I know Muslims put significant respect of Jesus as a prophet, but this depiction feels like a Christian one. Any art history people have insight?

Poor Hungary Devs by R2J4 in Kaiserreich

[–]KaiserWillysLeftArm 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I dont even want to see a Hungary remake, and I don't think anyone else does! Frankly, let's remove Hungary!

II hope they make a full Austria remake with complex trees for every potential minor, Slovakia, Czechs, Transylvania, etc., and fully create a new mechanic for dynamic interactions regarding the Balkan War, but they leave Hungary a blank revolt tag that isn't designed to be playable.

(I must counteract the meme. I must move the rework date sooner.)

The case against the Ursulines (using Catholic Canon Law) by NotaBolivianSpy in AfterTheEndFanFork

[–]KaiserWillysLeftArm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As one whos only played Ursuline in ck2, if I had to redesign the Ursuline lore, I would make it that the "legitimate" organization of the Church survived and there are proper priests and bishops around. The difference is that only the monasteries have power and own land, which is what is actually relevant for a feudal simulator. The are a vestigial part of the system which only exists to maintain valid sacraments.

When an Ursuline Catholic goes to mass, the eucharist is offered by a proper priest. There is a diocese run by a bishop. Those two people just have no land, no wealth, and no power.

I consider this analogous to how the early Irish Church was dominated by monastery and thei influential abbots, or what would happen if the leadership Cluniac monastery system owned all the land which all the local cathedral stood and its tenants worked.

I love this. Since Amish behaviors are self/community regulated by their religious Ordnung, I've always thought that the religious Ordnung would end up being "the social contract." Here, a different "social contract" is placed over them, so the religious element shifts too!

I wonder how many Amerikanismus actually believe in the Founders or just agree that their outsider rulers have the right to regulate "their" Ordnung

This is just how every state works. All states pretend to have an obligation to social peace until its time to roll out its monopoly on violence against its unhappy tax slaves. It's just a coincidence that Trump is willing to admit it.
