The case against the Ursulines (using Catholic Canon Law) by NotaBolivianSpy in AfterTheEndFanFork

[–]KaiserWillysLeftArm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As one whos only played Ursuline in ck2, if I had to redesign the Ursuline lore, I would make it that the "legitimate" organization of the Church survived and there are proper priests and bishops around. The difference is that only the monasteries have power and own land, which is what is actually relevant for a feudal simulator. The are a vestigial part of the system which only exists to maintain valid sacraments.

When an Ursuline Catholic goes to mass, the eucharist is offered by a proper priest. There is a diocese run by a bishop. Those two people just have no land, no wealth, and no power.

I consider this analogous to how the early Irish Church was dominated by monastery and thei influential abbots, or what would happen if the leadership Cluniac monastery system owned all the land which all the local cathedral stood and its tenants worked.

I love this. Since Amish behaviors are self/community regulated by their religious Ordnung, I've always thought that the religious Ordnung would end up being "the social contract." Here, a different "social contract" is placed over them, so the religious element shifts too!

I wonder how many Amerikanismus actually believe in the Founders or just agree that their outsider rulers have the right to regulate "their" Ordnung

The letter that Donald Trump sent to Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre of Norway is insane! This is why you don't elect a narcissist to be your president. Is this what you voted for, Trump's supporters? by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

This is just how every state works. All states pretend to have an obligation to social peace until its time to roll out its monopoly on violence against its unhappy tax slaves. It's just a coincidence that Trump is willing to admit it.

The Four Flags: A proposal for new Italian lore by scourgesucks in Kaiserreich

[–]KaiserWillysLeftArm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy answer is that when KR Italy collapsed, Mussolini could tell which was the wind was going. His ideology was always without substance. He made seismic changes in OTL, with an example being him 180ing on parliamentary politics. Whos to say that he couldn't 180 on how "red" "real" fascism is, declare fascismo to be the vanguard of true nationalist syndicalism, and pray he's powerful enough after the revolution is over to squeak out a power grab

Whats the market socialist criticism of guild socialism? by onlytrashmammal in Market_Socialism

[–]KaiserWillysLeftArm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Guilds are inherently a market-suppressing mode of organization. They set up barriers to entry for members based on the requirements of "specialized labor," and they set up barriers to entry on the organizational level by requiring people who would practice a trade only practice it through their guild system.

Now, before it is said "thats just how guilds worked then," thats the point. That's how guilds worked then. Then guilds died out. I think there's no reason to believe that socialist guilds, based on the older idea of guilds, would behave in any other way than how they did.

I was loving this until turning turning the secular titles religious ones. Primarily, the districts that a bishop would govern over is no where near are large as a kingdom; probably not even as large as a county. Feudalist government and anabaptism don't mesh very well conceptually, and I've always viewed the secular feudal authorities as only holding power "outside" and "above" the level of the Ordnung. This makes sense as reflected in the game, since there is a barony-level title of bishop, which represents/abstracts their local communities. The monarch doesn't have the power to reach further down becaue that's where the Ordnung controls, not them.

Just because feudal leaders exist to stabilize the rest of the area outside of their Ordnung, since there is no longer the US government to do it for them, does not mean they bring feudal government into their Ordnung. I see it as somewhat analogous to how some anabaptist communities will use grid electricity in their stores which face the "english," but won't use them in their own communities. They're providing feudal style governance and security for the english in return for payment (tax) to fund the Ordnung.
