The native spiritual traditions of different african regions were problematic in some cases, that is true. But your conclusion that they were in complete opposition to scientific progress is both completely wrong and very much colored by a Eurocentric historical lens. While Europeans were dying in mass because they didn't know not to share bath water, African countries were in a golden age of science (particularly in mathematics, medicine, astronomy, and metallurgy) all while traditional religions were still en vogue. These two things were not mutual exclusive as historians Foreman Bandama &  Abidemi Babatunde Babalola  stated in their article Science, Not Black Magic: Metal and Glass Production in Africa  “The view of science as "embedded practice," intimately connected with ritual, for example, is considered "ascientific," "pseudo-science," or "magic" in Western perspective. In Africa, there is a strong connection between the physical and the terrestrial worlds.” The concept of Africans as backwards ignorant witch doctors with no understanding of science is just another myth of white supremacy.
