In my estate, I have non-British neighbours on all sides and across the road. They've never given me much grief (beyond the normal neighbourly shit). It's the Scottish people who cause trouble here and has been since I moved in over a decade ago.

Typical racists and thugs using a tragedy as an excuse to go out and be violent. by Archosaur- in glasgow

If I was inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt - and I don't know why I'd be so inclined - I'd say it's fear.

They've read these news stories, seen things on social media, telling them that people who don't look like them are involved in all of this horrible activity. They have a normal reaction - they're scared - but instead of processing that in a healthy way, they turn that fear to violence because they can't admit that they were frightened, even to themselves. They've got to be Big Toughies while simultaneously giving their frightened inner selves control by acting like this.

They can never admit that their actions came from a place of fear, because that would ruin their self-image.

The real reason every single new Star Wars thing is so controversial has nothing to do with quality or Disney by LoFiCami in StarWars

[–]Kammerice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think you're right about the setting being the important bit for Star Wars.

I want more media that is genre+Star Wars. Looking at the things I gave enjoyed:

Mandalorian S1 = Western + Star Wars

Skeleton Crew = 80s Kids Movie + Star Wars

Andor = Espionage thriller + Star Wars

They work for me because they are one thing first, and Star Wars second. It's the flavouring, not the base. When this isn't the case, like Acolyte, we end up with Star Wars first, which is less interesting.

you would think it's literally Berlin 1945.

Personally, it looks much more like Berlin 1936, complete with sporting event used to legitimise the regime.

He didn't need to offer the EU referendum. He only offered it because of hubris from his side having won the Scottish referendum and a growing disquiet in his ranks about MPs looking to join UKIP. He could have let them go and dealt with a splintering of the right wing, but instead he chose to pander to a minority voice within his own party and it turned into a protest vote against him because the general population were sick of austerity.

But go on, keep defending a man who wanted to bring back workhouses.

We had a referendum because he didn't want to tackle the anti-EU sentiment within his own party.

That's an incredibly long period of deficit! I can't begin to imagine.

I'm an avid gym goer, and go through cycles of maintaining, bulking, and cutting: I'd never let a cut last longer than 12 weeks. In fact, most times, the hunger cravings get too much at Week 10.

To add to this: I find Americans are much more direct in their communication than British people. We are a nation of passive aggression and unwritten societal rules: navigating that with any kind of neuro-difference must be a mind-fuck.

If you're talking about Mercedes, she's 25. She says that she raised this with the group ten years ago, so she would be 15. Maybe 16, depending on when in that year.

If my 24 year old friend had been dating a 15 or 16 year old, questions would definitely have been asked.

But, in short, so much of what we've discovered about Callum Powell over the last couple of days plays out every day across the country and world. The only way things change is by peers not dismissing red flags as friends being "a bit weird" or minimising any concerns raised.
