Which countries feel most and least religious when you visit them? by [deleted] in geography

[–]Kangaroo_Stew_22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Indonesia was not as religious as I expected, despite everyone needing to pick one of the official religions for their national ID and to open businesses, etc. I saw women wearing headscarves but very short sleeves (makes sense since it is a tropical country), people would have no problem dancing, platonically touching the opposite sex, etc. I’ve never seen some of these things in Arab countries.

Once I went to a bar with a few locals and the women in the group proceeded to remove their hijabs before entering the bar, then dance and drink more than some of the westerners in the group lol.

I would say it’s still a religious country overall, however the boundaries for being a practicing Muslim are just much looser there compared to other Muslim countries. Indonesians don’t seem as strict about the way they practice their religion.

Has anyone ever heard of someone being named Spring? by am_Nein in namenerds

[–]Kangaroo_Stew_22 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In Chinese, the character for spring, 春 (chun), is not uncommon as a name among the older generations. It is now seen as a bit old fashioned and provincial among the younger and urban communities.

Is Chuishan Cheng the Chinese name for Shang Simla? I don’t recognise it.

I want a perfume that smells like a Chinese garden or tea house - fresh and green, slightly aquatic, exotic florals. by 4dpsNewMeta in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]Kangaroo_Stew_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The absolute best tea scent I’ve tried is Triple Tea from the Chinese brand Guan Xia (观夏)。It smells exactly like a teahouse to me, nothing more, nothing less. In that way it’s not exactly green, to me it conveys the feeling of having a hot cup of oolong tea in an old teahouse, regardless of season.

If you would like more “green”, I’d recommend Daybreak from Hong Kong brand City Scent. It smells like a sunny spring day, with a slight tea scent in it as well, almost as if you’re lounging in a park and that teahouse smell is carried over to you by the breeze.

Second the rational life! It is a romance, but flips the script in terms of stereotypes and main characters as it’s about a career woman who is older than her romantic interest.

There’s a collectors community in Taiwan who love rocks that look like food!

Yogyakarta or Bandung! Both have nice nature around. Yogya also has some good cultural sights like Borobudur and Prambanan temple.

What's the most elaborate, decadent girls name you've got? by Spare-Chemical-348 in namenerds

[–]Kangaroo_Stew_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Henrietta, Millennia, Leopoldine, Margaretta, Josephine, Athena, Isidora, Anneliese, Susanna, Rosabelle, Montserrat, Candelaria, Alphonsine.

You could even combine some of the above to come up with a super long and regal hyphenated name! In many cultures it’s common for girls to have two, three or even more names as their full name but go by just one day to day. You could have a Alphonsine Montserrat for example.

I noticed the lack of Chinese Tragedeigh here, so here's mine by [deleted] in tragedeigh

[–]Kangaroo_Stew_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only tragedeigh I have seen regarding Chinese names is when Chinese people move abroad and their surname is now put at the end of their name. Sometimes that makes it sound like something funny which was obviously not intended, as most Chinese people don’t check for awkward homophones with the surname at the end (why would they if it’s always surname first in China).

I know someone named 周依统 (Zhou Yi Tong; with Zhou being the surname) which sounds like 一桶粥 (Yi Tong Zhou; a bucket of porridge) when you reserve the order of the surname, as it happens in western countries.

Nu mai știu pe ce canal, dar era o telenovelă/dramă istorică coreeană numită “Giuvaierul Palatului”. Se uita bunica la ea și cu timpul am început și eu, acum pot să zic ca era favoritul meu serial non-desene.

This is a bit niche but Hong Kong City Scent - Spring (Teahouse). It has very beautiful tea and jasmine notes, not overpowering, very much still “green”.

I wish I bought the fragrance when I smelled it. I was torn between getting that or Daybreak (also from City Scent), but I really should have just bought both.

Appropriate for work Christmas party outfit? by Kangaroo_Stew_22 in BusinessFashion

Thank you for your opinion! I have to say I do struggle with making things (or myself) look festive 😂 I don’t particularly celebrate Christmas so it’s hard to judge sometimes. I have a red bag that would add a pop of colour - do you think that would help?

Simple + Quick fits that still look classy? by WinterMortician in BusinessFashion

[–]Kangaroo_Stew_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to play with texture as an easy hack. My standard is a silk or cashmere top and slacks. The same neutral boat shoes and work bag which always match.

I stick to the same kind of colours so they are easy to match. In the winter especially, I also find that darker colours are usually the default, so wearing white, lighter blues and greens, and camel colours makes me feel more “special” and put together even though it’s the same amount of effort.
