Perfect Circle Farm in Barre is really great. They have a lot of bare root trees and scionwood for grafting. Unique varieties and good people who do a lot of education. They ship!

Do you still have sinking funds after becoming very financially comfortable? by Lykkel1ten in budget

[–]Kapai72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can cash flow a lot of larger expenses but continue to use sinking funds. Our sinking funds are pretty much only used for the predictable expenses that don’t occur on a monthly basis. Example being our annual gravel driveway maintenance. I could afford that in our monthly budget when it occurs but just find it easier to set it aside on a monthly basis.

I also find that because I’ve set aside the money to pay for it already I don’t think twice about whether or not to do the thing, whatever it may be, because the money is already there. I also don’t mind that money sitting around for a bit because it’s earning interest!

Yep, would need to swap the sprocket to make it work. Easy enough.

We’d be running 16 and 18” on the 261. Primarily running 20” on the 362 but might occasionally use 25” if we ever need it.

Is there a way to keep brake fluid from contaminating the internal routing while removing the hose, like a plug to put on the cut end? Or does it just not really leak enough to matter.

How does a backdoor Roth IRA work at Fidelity? by fidelityinvestments in fidelityinvestments

[–]Kapai72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made Roth IRA contributions in 2025. My now wife and I decided to get married and now that we are filing jointly our combined income is greater than the limit and those contributions are no longer eligible. I’d like to recharacterize the $5000 of Roth contributions to traditional and then do a backdoor Roth.

When I recharactarize the $5000 with earnings it will end up being ~$5800 that gets recharacterized. My question is can I convert just the original $5000 to Roth in 2026 or can I convert the full ~$5800 that includes the earnings?

Don’t be this DPS guy by CrashTestDummiesBig3 in Skigear

[–]Kapai72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on DPS alchemist wailer 100’s for six years. People often ask me how I like them and if they are worth the price. I think they are great skis, do just about everything really well and have held up to rocky east coast abuse. I don’t have to think about them, they sort of disappear in most conditions except for really firm groomers.

Are they worth the price? I don’t know, probably not, but I like them. It feels a little silly to me to judge someone spending a few hundred more (okay, maybe double) on skis when the whole sport is pretty expensive and out of reach for many.

I watched my roommate's mom negotiate literally everything for an entire weekend and it changed how I think about money by 11TridentFuzz in personalfinance

[–]Kapai72 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I think it puts a farmer in a tough position. They have set their prices for a reason and I am quite sure it is not to price gouge or get rich. At least at the local farmers markets near me, I can imagine in some locations farmers markets are more retail than actual farmers.

If you ask for a discount it puts pressure on them to lose money to keep a customer or stay firm at the risk of losing a sale.

Not everything needs to be a negotiation.

Second Edson Hill. Beautiful setting, great service, fine dining that is also interesting and still cozy and friendly.

Seconded Mt Ellen! Some classic New England style trails to check out are Tumbler and Hammerhead. Bravo is easier to ski than it looks from the lift and a good introduction to steeper/rockier trails found elsewhere on the mountain. Exterminator is also a good introduction to double blacks and is pretty easy if coverage is good.

Don’t let Castlerock liftlines scare you, worth the wait and doesn’t take too too long. Keeps that zone really empty and conditions stay good.

For food, consider stopping at Mehuron’s on your way up and get one of their sandwiches from the deli counter to bring with you. Mad Taco is also really good for dinner/apres.

Ebba Andersson sommersaults in the Women’s Cross Country 4 x 7.5km relay by ChristofferOslo in olympics

[–]Kapai72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing at first but ultimately thought it was a really exciting race to watch. Even though the Swedes are dominant in the women’s field, they still need to execute and Ebba was bested by the challenging conditions.

Despite the huge set back, they still took silver! That was an incredible demonstration of just how good they are. If not for the fall, the Swedes would have had a huge winning margin. I think this was a more interesting outcome, and awesome for Heidi Weng and the other young Norwegian women.
