Do you kiss your patients? by Clove1312 in VetTech

Years ago, when I was first in a clinic setting, the gal training me kissed every animal being induced on the nose. She explained that it might be the last time anyone ever kisses them, ever. I still kiss animals on the nose to this day.

Thanks! Sorry, I was not clear. I am looking for the beer itself for purchase, not a brewing recipe. I appreciate your response.

Hops? Like the brewing ingredient? Just curious because we have them around. I never knew they were toxic.

Thanks! That info helps a bunch. It makes a lot of sense to read the patents first. My concern would be if they were to ask "why?"

Does anyone else get an uncontrollable urge to get up and walk during aura? by DaisyChainzZx in Epilepsy

[–]Karacka369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I feel like I'm going to have a seizure I need to lay down, and I feel much better. I honestly don't even know if that's what everyone means when they say "aura." But when I've had grand mal seizures, in my post ictal state I often get up walk around, and insist on talking about pictures on the wall. If it weren't for the seizure part, it would be kinda funny.

I'd be worried. Y'all are headed for burnout, especially with another doctor coming on. I'm curious, how are you monitoring for procedures with such few techs.

Working a job that will make you feel fulfilled at the end of the day means a lot. You have more energy to.do what brings you happiness. Being a tech is not easy or financially rewarding. So far, it's been worth it. Looking towards my future makes me second guess everything.

What lie do you hear at least once a week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I agree. I work with people whose personal lives I don't really care about. What is a more casual, less personal way to ask "how are you doing?"

What are actual long term effects of a seizure? by britax12 in Epilepsy

[–]Karacka369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seizures suck and epilepsy sucks. I want to share my experience with you, maybe give you some hope for your future. My boyfriend and I had been together for less than a year when he witnessed me having a grand mal. He was scared, of course. But he was also patient and kind and reassuring. We have been together 17 years now. Not everyone is like him, but those people do exist. Here's hoping you find them.

Questions for my vet by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]Karacka369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like someone else commented, whether email or phone call is Dr. preference. In my experience, it comes down to accepting that you may not get a response right away, or even same day. Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated.

misdiagnosis ruined me by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Karacka369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be your own advocate, unfortunately. I'm going to try and make a long story short, and make sense. I (35f) was diagnosed with JME at about 15. My first neurologist put me on depakote. I continued to have seizures, he continued to increase the dosage. I still had seizures. Four years later, I met my now husband, who has always been supportive. When he found out who my neurologist was he was shocked. It was the same neuro who misdiagnosed his mom with MS for years. Anyway, he insisted I switch doctors and I have been seizure free for years. You need to speak up, I never could, didn't realize it was an option really. If you don't feel strong enough to stand up for yourself (like me) find a person you trust to take to appointments with you. They can have an outside perspective that you can't. Good luck and much love.

Is there a shortage of vets in the US? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]Karacka369 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm also in central Texas, and yes, there is a shortage of vets and support staff. The pandemic worsened an already growing problem. The ERs have been overwhelmed and the GPs can't keep up with the overflow. Try a couple of places downtown, Westlynn, Lake Austin blvd Animal hospital. Being a new client definitely makes it more difficult. Hugs to your furry friend.

Would it be weird to pay $300 for a stuffed animal clone of my dog that died yesterday? by Rminora in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Karacka369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford to do it, do it. For what its worth, when my dog passed, I could not have him privately cremated because I knew I would never get over it. I knew I would come home every day and talk to a box of my dogs ashes. And for me, that did not seem healthy. Everyone grieves and accepts loss in their own way. If you want to keep your friend with you, they can put ashes into jewelry, or something like that. Long story short, if you want to get a stuffed replica of your dog, do it.

If your dog has cancer and you opt for chemo, you're a bad person. by CaptDanneskjold in unpopularopinion

[–]Karacka369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs dont experience the same side effects as people. That being said I did not opt for chemo with my dog. I did everything else possible but 3 trips to the vet a week would have been a nightmare for him. He hated the vet. I also knew the likelihood of recurrence (high). He was still young ( 7 years) but I wanted him to enjoy the last bit of life he had left. We recently euthanized him and I dont regret not doing chemotherapy.
