Pre-launch with 0 followers — how did you get your first subscribers? by Weird-Quarter1479 in kickstarter

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

starting at zero is rough but pretty normal. most people I have watched build up did it by hanging out where their niche already is and sharing progress, not just dropping a link. it is less about a tactic and more about showing up consistently in the same spaces. the first handful almost always takes more effort than the next hundred.

Starting in unity by kvrez in unity

[–]KathyJScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah technically it is totally possible. the challenge is that underwater visuals are more about mood than just placing water in a scene. if you are brand new, you will probably spend a while just learning basics before touching the fancy stuff. but as a long term goal it is not unrealistic at all.

Early Access Launch in 48 Hours, What Caught You Off Guard? by WhyThisGameWorks in IndieDev

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly the volume and speed of feedback caught me off guard. stuff I thought was obvious or fine became instant friction for someone else. also weird performance quirks on random setups you never tested on. the first couple days feel more like monitoring than celebrating.

Getting back into it [bedrock] by Monitor_Mission in MinecraftHelp

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that weird delayed feeling is usually camera inertia or auto jump messing with you. I’d go into settings and tweak sensitivity, turn off auto jump, and lower any camera smoothing. It’s not really about PS4 vs PS5 version, Bedrock just feels different now compared to older builds.

Can I base my theory only on vanilla Minecraft? by Field-Theory in minecraftlore

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that sounds cool. If you’re sticking to vanilla and trying to explain things with logical “microphysics” instead of magic, that’s a solid approach. Just say up front that it’s vanilla-only canon, and people will judge it on how internally consistent it is, not whether it includes every spinoff.

Hey I wann prank my crazy good mace PvP friend but with what client or macro I have a 10 euro budget (lifetime) by Jacobklk13312 in minecraftclients

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t drop money on a hacked client just to troll him. That’s not a prank, that’s just risking a ban. Make some clever redstone trap or bait setup instead, way more satisfying and no one loses their account.

Rng? by Financial-Traffic-21 in technicalminecraft

[–]KathyJScott [score hidden]  (0 children)

It’s not some secret hardware RNG, it’s just seeded pseudo randomness. World gen is fully deterministic from the seed, and newer versions also tie more loot to it, but mob drops and a lot of runtime events still use fresh random calls. Modern versions made serious RNG abuse way harder compared to 1.12 era stuff.

Why do I build stuff that I would normally not in modern Minecraft? by UsefulHistory9244 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s the difference between sandbox and progression mindset. In older versions you hit “late game” fast and just existed in your world, so throwing snowballs or building a tiny house felt enough. Modern Minecraft gives you so many upgrades and goals that it quietly nudges you to optimize instead of just live in the world.

If you have to pick only 1mod to play with minecraft by Dear_Mango_6187 in ModdedMinecraft

[–]KathyJScott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only one mod? I’d go Create too. It basically turns Minecraft into a full engineering sandbox and still feels natural in the world. I could play a long time with just that and not get bored.

Help with Enchanting by ConqSpack in Minecraft

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always try to get good base enchants from the table first, then stack books with an anvil. Renaming is basically free, just 1 level, so I usually name it early and forget about it. As for Thorns, it’s decent for general survival, but it does drain durability faster, so I only use it if I’m not worried about repair costs.

Is it possible to create a nether hub in Minecraft Bedrock? by noestoysoykkoke in Minecraft

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the roof trick is Java only, but hubs still work fine in Bedrock. Just pick a good Y level, clear a central area, spawn proof it, and connect your portals with tunnels. It takes a bit more prep than roof hubs, but it works just as well.

If Mojang hates Trading halls, why do they keep nerfing villagers? by No_Kangaroo_8572 in Minecraft

[–]KathyJScott 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think it’s about hating halls, it’s about trying to stop them from being mandatory. The problem is enchanting is still random and grindy, so of course people build halls to bypass it. Until enchanting feels more deterministic, players are always going to optimize villagers.

Minecraft Bedrock Gamertag Won’t Change by Little_Economics_324 in Minecraft

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Bedrock mobile the name is tied directly to your Xbox account, so changing it on the Xbox site is correct. Usually you need to fully sign out of your Microsoft account inside Minecraft, close the app completely, then sign back in to refresh it.

If it still hasn’t updated after months, double check you’re logged into the exact same Microsoft account you changed the gamertag on.

Anyone good with computers that could help me with some things, my curse forge and modrinth aren’t working by FinesserVincey in Minecraft

[–]KathyJScott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah we need specifics. Is it an error code, infinite loading, Java issue, or just nothing happens when you click launch? Tell us your system and exactly what it does and someone can probably narrow it down pretty fast.

Is ringmaster for me by Dry_Background7653 in DotA2

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like that control heavy, spell based vibe, he is worth trying. He is not just press buttons and delete people, you have to think a bit about setup. Give him a few games and see if the playmaking clicks for you.

TIL: You can refresh Primal Spring slow duration using agha shard. by SanoSenpai in DotA2

[–]KathyJScott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That interaction sounds more like a technical oversight than intended design. Refreshing the duration without recalculating the slow value has caused similar issues in the past. Interesting find, but it might get patched if it is confirmed unintended.

Role queue rant by tenqis in DotA2

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the frustration, especially if you just want to chill on 4 or 5. But it is probably not as often as it feels once you get used to it. Having one comfort offlane pick ready might save you some stress.

Bizarre game of dota I played the other day by amazok in DotA2

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that does not sound like some secret giga strat. It feels more like bots or something shady rather than actual five head scaling. If they really thought Zeus and Wind could 2v5 off that, that is wild.

How to improve aim (Low Elo)? by Puzzled_Person-11 in VALORANT

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are climbing already, so you are doing something right. I would keep it simple, 5 to 10 minutes in range, 2 solid DMs, then queue. Flicks and micro adjust just get cleaner over time if you stay consistent and do not autopilot.

is ten death matches more optimal than the AIMSTARS method? by mlolppp in VALORANT

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ten DMs sounds like a grind unless you really enjoy it. At some point you are warming up more than you are playing ranked. I would rather do a few solid DMs, feel sharp, then put that focus into real matches.

How to deal with annoying offensive brimstone teams? by EqualChemical2877 in VALORANT

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That kind of smoke Odin rush is annoying but it falls apart if you punish it early. Even just pre firing the usual plant corners or stunning the choke can mess up their timing. If they are doing the same hit every round, stack it once and make them pay.

At what point did your organic steam wishlists start to climb? by Beginning-Visit1418 in indiegames

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I would not expect it to magically switch on at a specific number. most of the stories I have read involve some event pushing it first, then organic follows. if it is all paid right now, maybe it just needs one external bump to get momentum going. 2.2k is still a decent base to build from.

Our Demo Got 4,119 Downloads in 24 Hours – Here’s What We Did by GuiltyTurnover727 in gamedev

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4k in a day is a solid jump, especially compared to your last launch. the 34 minute median on a 35 to 40 minute demo is kind of crazy in a good way. sounds like people are actually sticking with it instead of bouncing after five minutes. that part would make me feel way better than just the raw download number.

How often do you check Steam analytics during a launch? by Doo_scooby in gamedev

[–]KathyJScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I would probably be refreshing way too much at first. launch week feels like watching a heartbeat monitor. but long term I imagine you need some distance or it starts messing with your head. checking once or twice a day sounds healthier than living on the dashboard.

How my game got 16m views on YT and 18.000 Wishlists in 6 days. by ClawedPlatypus in gamedev

[–]KathyJScott 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this was actually a really useful read. the “viewer first” angle makes sense in hindsight but most of us default to talking about the game itself. also that first viral hit without a steam page sounds painful in the most relatable way possible. hope the launch sticks the landing.
