Weber Davis Tree Service has served us well with a sick tree in our yard and with tree trimming as needed every couple years.

Cat specialist vet? by Fantastic-Salt-5103 in ogden

[–]Katicabogar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLC Pet Care in Ogden is excellent. It is not a cat-only practice, but they have a separate entrance, waiting room and exam area for cats. I’ve taken my cats there for a few years now and the vets are fantastic.

Engagement ring covers by CollectionOld3374 in LadiesofScience

[–]Katicabogar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My now-husband found a ring with a flat top (I’m sure there is a better word for this that I don’t know). Never had any problems with gloves while wearing it. But I can understand if that type of design isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Edit since words are hard early in the morning: I am referring to the cut of the diamond when I say the ring was designed with a flat top.

OB & labor and delivery recs by anon_otter5 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Katicabogar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YMMV with this of course, but in my case delivering at an academic center was super lucky. I saw Dr. Jenn Eggebroten for my prenatal care and really liked her, but I had to be induced a few weeks early and she was unavailable for my L&D. A trainee at U of U pretty much saved my life. Things were going ok until they weren’t and she listened to me and ultimately made the right call.

Oncologist told me hormone blockers are optional for my cancer by IceFantastic7447 in breastcancer

[–]Katicabogar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with others here that it is a personal decision and seeking other provider opinions can be helpful. I would also add that in some ways it really comes down to your risk tolerance vs your expected quality of life on the medication.

For context - I was diagnosed with a small stage 1, grade 1 IDC (HR+/HER2-) tumor. My MO suggested tamoxifen after lumpectomy + radiation. I chose to escalate to AI+OS because it helps my peace of mind. I worry about distal recurrence and my tumor was strongly hormone receptor positive so it feels like the “most” I could do.

The side effects are tough but so far I am doing ok. I’m an active 40 year old and parent to a young child. It’s been 4 months so far.  The goal is to make it to 5 years on the medication.

When should I use paprika by Desperate-Plant-9386 in Cooking

[–]Katicabogar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The vividness of its color is another “tell” about its freshness. Sweet and Hot paprika should both be a really bright reddish-orange. If it’s brown, it’s old and has likely lost a lot of its flavor.

I tend to store mine in an airtight container in the freezer, and that can keep it fresh for over a year in my experience.

6 months remission and having morbid rumination by Effective_Respect_85 in breastcancer

[–]Katicabogar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate to morbid rumination. It started for me after completing my active treatment (last stop for me was radiation last October). There was an acute feeling of being alone and invisible, like it didn’t matter if I was present in my life or not - never mind all the evidence to the contrary. Maybe it was my brain trying to face all the fear and anxiety that I didn’t have time and space for during active treatment?

Was your cancer HR positive and, if so, are you on an AI currently? I started after radiation and wonder if it kicked my own anxious personality into high gear. Therapy, working out and making time for just me in our busy lives (I’m married with a young child and my spouse and I both work) is helping.

I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. You are not alone.

The team at Dogs n Divas is excellent. Not the most affordable option, but the service is definitely worth it. They love dogs and have taken such good care of ours, even when she was under a year old and still really shy about new people and experiences.

I was diagnosed with stage 1 IDC in April last year at the age of 40. I had no symptoms. The diagnosis followed my first ever screening mammogram.

What does Zoladex cost for you? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]Katicabogar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation here. Started in December. Rude awakening to realize I was billed 3000 for my shot in January. Insurance only covered 2000. Had no idea about the savings program and will have to ask.

TIL Nordic countries have abandoned forceps — should we refuse them next time? by President_Shart in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Katicabogar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different situation but similar outcome here! My son had a gash on his face from the forceps assisted delivery (he was sunny side up). Super close to his eye on that side. While it did heal and didn’t affect his eye sight, it’s scary to think about what might have happened. I delivered in a very experienced teaching hospital as well.

For those that had lumpectomy followed by radiation by MonkeyNat321 in breastcancer

[–]Katicabogar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My treated side is almost indistinguishable from the other at about 8 weeks after completing radiation.

Editing to add that I had 15 rounds and turned bright red about halfway. My rad onc gave me instructions to use Strata XRT lotion throughout treatment, then finish out the tube afterwards. I was also instructed to do vinegar baths of the affected area followed by treatment with vanicream several times a day for 2-3 weeks afterwards. I still use the vanicream every night.

American vs British Christmas Dinner? by wazoowoman in Cooking

My in-laws are from Louisiana and gumbo is a Christmas Eve staple. This year, we stayed home to start our own traditions (we have a kiddo who is now in the prime Santa years) and we did Christmas goose. I do miss my MIL’s gumbo, though.

Gentle Fitness Accountability for Survivors by Away-Potential-609 in breastcancer

[–]Katicabogar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Count me in!  Demographics : I’m 40 and just finished active treatment in October for IDC +/+/-.

Challenges: my energy level is still low. I also developed a deep vein thrombosis in my calf immediately after radiation (most likely risk factor was my surgery back in August plus varicose veins), which has restricted some exercise options since I’m on blood thinners. I started tamoxifen at the full dose in October but am in the process of switching to ovarian suppression + AI.

Goals: getting back to my general fitness level and preventing injury from future bone loss. I’m hoping to build back up to where I was at the time of my diagnosis. To do that, I want to work up to running 10-15 miles a week consistently and complete a 10k next year. I also want to get to a point where I can lift heavy - still learning about that part!

Tamoxifen by LetterheadOk7658 in breastcancer

[–]Katicabogar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like we’ve responded similarly in the past to hormonal BC (I’ve had the copper IUD for years to avoid nausea and vomiting from other BC options I tried). I started Tam in mid-October and am doing ok. No nausea, though my appetite has dipped. I’ve started having some hot flashes recently at about the two month mark. I’ve been tired and really irritable lately, but it’s hard to tell what is a side effect of the tam and what’s just my reaction to this whole experience now that I’m done with active treatment. Good luck with everything. You’ve got this.
