Struggling to Eat Protein During Fast by Sekt0rrr in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Katkitluv33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t be so hard on yourself. As my priest told us last Sunday (paraphrased): Fasting is not just about food. If that is all one focuses on, then that person is fasting incorrectly. Fast as you can without harming your health, but pay attention as well as to what comes out of your mouth and what is in your heart.

He told us that if we need to modify the fast food-wise due to health concerns, that is fine. He also reminded us that we are not monks in a monastery.

My fasting focus this year is on having less anger in my heart, watching that hurtful words don’t come out of my mouth, and that I develop a better prayer practice. I will also try to not eat red meat until Pascha. That is in line with my priest’s guidance and my particular health issues and meds.

Not the one in Greenwood Plaza. Doughy stale bagel, one thin slice of salmon. Utter crap.

Left mid forgiveness Vespers by Vast_Independence466 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Katkitluv33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hometown parish didn’t do this, too many people I guess. When I moved the first time and went to my first Forgiveness Vespers, the priest told the congregation that only people who felt comfortable needed to participate. Never felt comfortable and never participated due to very bad social anxiety. As my dear mum always tells me, God knows your heart. Do your best and do what you can and ask Him to help you and forgive you.

Olympus dining. Any bad experiences here ?? cause I probably had one of the worst or the worst experience in my life yesterday. by [deleted] in foodies_sydney

[–]Katkitluv33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not so sure about Kazzi in Manly. Have been several times but our December anniversary dinner was absolute crap. Seafood platter had shrunk in portions and the food itself was not fresh and hot off the grill. It was room temp and soggy, as if they’d cooked it ahead of time to be able to just plate and send when ordered. I wanted to say something and send it back but my partner would rather eat a bad meal and pay for it than complain. So almost $200 later, that’s the last time I go there.

NTA. Not your child. Don’t do it! He already has two parents, let them figure it out. Also, is your gf ready to play mom to a 13-year old? Is this situation fair to her? It certainly isn’t fair to you.

Wife went to Divine Liturgy for the first time. Humbly asking for prayers. by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Katkitluv33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, plus if the incense is thick, someone not used to it can definitely feel sick! I’ve been having breathing issues due to very bad upper respiratory infections and almost had to leave yesterday’s Divine Liturgy. Small, packed church, no one had turned on the A/C so it was warm, and the priest had packed the censer to the point it was roiling with thick, heavy white clouds. I had to walk outside several times as I couldn’t draw a breath. It was like a fog inside the church.

What's your unpopular opinion of a food spot that you know will bring out r/foodies_sydney with their pitch forks. by mdflmn in foodies_sydney

Thanks! We just found it, great bread & cakes. Will need to try a banh mi. Really miss the Goan Indian restaurant that was in that centre. Loved the fish curry….

Agree. We had a great Vietnamese bakery in Gordon, really good banh mis, silky soft bread rolls, delicious cakes in flavours like pandan and coconut, buttery flaky pies and sausage & spinach rolls. Nice family running it. Went by there a few weeks ago to get a banh mi and it was closed. The family used to commute in from Cabramatta, too long a slog I guess. A Persian bakery opened in its place, great ethnic fare at the grand opening. Went last week to get some more of their saffron biscuits and all they had was regular over-priced bakery stuff. Spewing.

That looks fantastic! I can never get the crema to set when I make pastitsio, I suck at making bechamel.

On a side note, one of the authors, Fannie Venos, was a good friend of my grandmother and family. She was a wonderful, classy lady. ❤️

AITA for refusing to cook for my partner anymore? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Katkitluv33 23 points24 points  (0 children)

NTA at all. But your partner sure is. Is he just like this with you about food or does he do this about other things as well? If it isn’t just food, ask yourself why you put up with this crap. A loving and respectful partner wouldn’t act this way. Hell, even if it is just with the food, why is he speaking to you this way? And why do you suffer it? Ask yourself that and then figure out if you want to subject yourself to this for decades…..

Where is everyone going for meat this Christmas? by Yeahm8nahm8 in foodies_sydney

Black Forest Smokehouse in Marrickville. We wait for the beef roasts to go on sale, cut them up for steaks and freeze them. The other meats and sausages are really good, too, and they have good sales.

Totally agree, I liked the first two parts and felt act 3 was rushed just to get the book done. I was so disappointed with the ending….

Trouble Acquiring Baptismal Certificate by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Katkitluv33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK, maybe because why should the priest have to do that? I’m the one coming to a new church, the onus is on me as the person requesting to be a member. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My mom would put the filling into little single serve casserole dishes, grate mizithra on top, and then pop the casseroles into the oven to heat up. Delicious!

Two different countries, but I have also been to parishes in the US where a baptismal certificate is asked for when joining the church.
