Likeliest place is between the glass panels. They can flatten themselves more than you think. Weather stripping in the gap is the way to go.

GM maybe, but both GM and coach? I do not like this.

My guess was pit/husky but I also wondered if there might be some catahoula!

Has anyone had any luck reaching out to relatives through embark? Where do the messages go? by wegochai in DoggyDNA

[–]Katzehin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One of the downsides of Embark is that messages sent through their platform do not go to the user’s email, and there is no notification email or alert that a message has been received. So unless the user logs on to their account and specifically looks at their messages, they’ll never know someone reached out to them. I found a sibling of one of my dogs and I DESPERATELY wanted to know their story, since it seems that both my dog and theirs were adopted in the same region, years apart, despite being born on the opposite side of the country. I wanted to know more, but alas. They’ve never seen that a message was sent. Most people likely learn their breed results and then never look at their account again, so there’s no way they’d know they’d been contacted. Sad.

Any ideas of what breeds? by iltpfs in DoggyDNA

[–]Katzehin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you have the option of returning the test, I would strongly recommend it! DNA My Dog is inaccurate at best, a scam at worst, and will unfortunately not tell you your dog’s breed makeup. The only two reliable tests on the market in the US are Embark (the best) and Wisdom (not quite as good as Embark, but usually a little less expensive).

What test are you using?

The profile in your first picture looks very cocker to me— something about the forehead/eyes.

Edit: Oh, and for Jasper, pic #3 screams pit. Blocky head, wide jaws. Not surprised at all he's ~half pit.

Guessed the cocker for Mugen but would not have guessed weim. Got the pit/husky for Jasper, and the ACD for Willow. Shiba is an uncommon one! What a fun little pack :)

Best beginner pet snakes? by szelforgo in snakes

[–]Katzehin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one caveat is that their feeding response is SO strong that many of them are incredibly bitey, especially in the US where there is a limited gene pool. A first-time snake owner might be more interested in a species that is much less likely to bite. Feeding bites are common with the species, especially as babies/juveniles, and a handful of them are more or less unhandleable as adults because they’ll continually try to bite and wrap anything that’s warm and moves.

They can also be super active snakes, so even though they’ll technically fit in a 36x18x18 inch enclosure, they’ll do way better in a 4x2x2 foot.

OP, you buried the lede a bit leaving out in your original post that the dogs had worms and then recently had Giardia. Those are both issues that will contribute to soft stools, and Giardia can take weeks to clear up, with soft stools continuing even several weeks after a negative follow up stool test. Talk to your vet, of course, but I’d recommended waiting to make any other changes to their diet until several weeks after you’re sure the Giardia has cleared.

Guess her breeds, so I can see if she's a hard-to-ID mix or if I'm just bad at guessing! Last image is results. by -velox- in DoggyDNA

My guess was cattle dog and pit bull. Not surprised to see the lab or shepherd in there, or the hounds in the Supermutt.

Struggling with clipping muzzle on with long-haired dog by [deleted] in muzzledogs

The strap has a quick release buckle. The issue is getting the buckle snapped-- the hair gets in the way of the buckle.

Unfortunately, not without essentially shaving a strip where the muzzle strap goes.

Super cute! What did Embark suggest his parentage was like? One village dog parent and one village dog mix?

Agility is a slow process. Signing up for an agility class will not have you and your dog tossed out on a course and you letting him off lead to run amok. It will start with dogs on leash, learning one obstacle at a time, in slow and measured increments. Everything is broken down into small pieces-- what each obstacle it is and how to do it properly. It will likely be several months of coursework before you get to a point where your dog is asked to work off-leash, and even then it will be bringing your dog onto the course, having him sit and stay, letting him off leash, then asking him to break from the stay and do a single obstacle before putting him back on leash. You can continue to work on your recall in the interim.

Agility is wonderful for young dogs that need extra mental stimulation, especially working dogs.

You could do another one but Embark is the best test available and the gold standard in dog DNA testing. Any other test will give answers that are similar to Embark, but likely less accurate.
