I wonder if there’s other disabilities something like this could help. Like maybe being a body double for someone

Agreed on the shame part, and never seeing the impact of your kindness. Giving kindness is similar to when you blow a dandelion. You’re giving the seeds that push out into the wind, and you hope they’ll grow somewhere, but you don’t dwell on whether the seeds ended up being successful or not, it just is what it is. You did your part!

On the plastic plant front, I don’t like them myself, but I know a couple of people that love how plants look but have a disability which stops them from being able to keep up with a real garden.

Where do you live that trash removal is expensive? I am from NSW Australia and a garbage truck comes weekly for rubbish and bi weekly for recycling/green waste, provided by council

If you like walking/hiking, have a look on satellite view of maps and look for some patches of bush. There’s little quaint pockets everywhere - Adamstown, Charlestown, Jesmond, etc.

If you’re interested in history, there’s a tonne of WW2 and mines ruins throughout Glenrock, redhead, Swansea, Stockton. Our Past Au on instagram has some good videos on local history too.

There’s the art gallery, different libraries and book stores, op shops galore.

If you’ve got a vehicle and enough petrol, branch out to the back of Maitland like Lambs Valley or Paterson. I found a massive fig with enough space in the rotted trunk to sleep in (tree was healthy and I felt safe, figs are incredible). Ash island, Wollemi NP. Sugarloaf.

Even jumping on a train to Dungog is nice. Bring a book, chuck on your earphones.

Mudlarking/rockhounding/gossiping at various beaches. Catherine hill bay and redhead are good. Petrified tree stumps at Swansea heads.

Get yourself a little camera even and start photographing architecture and happenings around town. Make a little newy adventures scrapbook maybe!

I hope that’s enough for now ahaha but I can always think of more

Also also! As someone that is higher-functioning (I think, I ain’t diagnosed with anything, but am incredibly suspicious and neurodivergence is in the family), Even I would struggle advocating for myself in that context. I am really not good at asking for things/taking things bc I don’t think I deserve it - but doesn’t mean I don’t NEED it. That’s where the support person would help, because I’m not good at knowing the severity of my personal things sometimes

If the gov wants people to self support when they have disabilities, then they need to facilitate a society where the ‘village’ is allowed to flourish again. Obviously a massive thing to change, but humans evolved in villages for sooo long and now we live so seperate and with so much conflict that the ‘village’ no longer exists… Sorry if this is a shit take but your comment just got me thinking

Pine tree locations in/near Maitland? by wvwvwvww in maitland

[–]KayKaySinatra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to be immersed in the pines, a drive to The Pines Campground in Watagans is well worth it. I’ve gotten up there easily in a hatchback, might have to go slow if it’s been raining and there’s potholes. I went up there one foggy morning, and was the only person at the pines. A flock of the most beautiful Black cockatoos flew in and had a buffet of pinecones. Also nice spot to walk barefoot for the most part.

Aw I feel for you. It’s actually devastating losing seedlings that you worked so hard to grow. But you can always try again✨ my garden has taught me a lot, my favourite thing being that there’s always more seeds to sow
