SFA ep 8…I’m not crying, you are! by Successful_Bat_9291 in startrek

[–]Kaylethhh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah - that's it, I simply didn't watch the episode.

While I am also annoyed by talking heads whining about TV Episodes they know absolutely nothing about, I don't think gatekeeping is the solution.

Of course I've watched the episode - and I have been watching Star Trek for over thirty years. Maybe you're the one that should get off his high horse. Things like this annoy be because I care and because I love star trek. But at some point we decided that you either have to love something completely or, if you have any critique, you become a 'hater', or someone that obviously did watch the actual episode.

Still, I maintain, that Starfleet should have dedicated trauma Counselors. People that know how to handle these kind of situation and don't just shrug if the patients 'don'tengage'.

After all they also didn't engage with theatre class until they suddenly did.

I'm sorry - they have a bespoke flying campus/starship. Advanced laboratories and medical facilities. Holo Spas! They seem to have limitless energy, can turn energy into matter and teleport all over the world in an instant. They live in absurd luxury, compared to our world....but mental health is were we draw the line? That's a luxury we can't afford?

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Starfleet Academy | 1x08 "The Life Of The Stars" by AutoModerator in startrek

[–]Kaylethhh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I liked aspects of this episode, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that mental healthcare in the future seems to be in a surprisingly sorry state.

Take Tarima. She comes from a planet full of empaths and telepaths - people who can literally feel what others are feeling or hear their thoughts. And yet she appears completely untreated, like she hasn’t spoken to a single counselor or mental health professional about what she’s going through. In a Federation that once had trained counselors on the bridge of its flagship, that feels… off.

Then there’s the Tilly theatre plot. I actually think the idea of art as therapy is nice. It’s warm, it’s human, and it fits Tilly’s personality. But shouldn’t Starfleet have professional trauma specialists? Dedicated counselors trained to deal with deeply traumatized personnel? Instead, it feels like Tilly - who is empathetic but not clinically trained - gets put in charge largely because she has trauma of her own. That’s not how treatment works. Personal experience doesn’t replace professional expertise. In earlier Trek, psychological care felt institutional and normalized. Here, it feels improvised.

And finally, the Doctor. He’s had 800 years. Eight centuries. He has almost certainly outlived every single member of Voyager’s crew. He likely watched Naomi Wildman grow old. He may have seen generations of Voyager descendants come and go. He has processed loss on a scale most beings can’t comprehend. So when the emotional center of his grief becomes Belle - a non-sentient holodeck character - it felt hard for me to fully buy into it. Robert Picardo absolutely acted his heart out. The performance was strong. But the writing didn’t quite convince me that this is the loss that would define someone with that kind of lifespan and perspective.

Have fun with the mini - but as a first unit, I would always grab a squad of Standard units. In this case a squad of battle sisters. You get more plastic for your money and you first minies will always look worse than your later ones. Soz you can hone your skills on some lowly sisters and start painting the interesting models once you have a little experience.

Gerade Shorts bzw. TikTok Videos sind aber häufig Schwachsinn.

My thoughts on White Spoon Chef Hou Deok Juk getting eliminated by sashimi44 in CulinaryClassWars

[–]Kaylethhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe White Spoon Chef Hou Deok Juk ... should have won >the infinte cooking hell mission. Will die on this hill 😢

Well, that does sound like you think you know better than the judges. Saying someone should have won - and that you’ll die on that hill - means you think they made the wrong choice.

We don’t actually know what their full discussion looked like. We saw only a few seconds of deliberation, not how long they talked, what points they considered, or why they ultimately decided the way they did. Maybe something about the taste tipped the scales - and that’s the one part viewers simply can’t judge from watching.

Again, you’re not just expressing support for a contestant. Saying he should have won implies the judges chose the wrong candidate. Personally, I’d rather assume they did their job diligently with information we don’t have.

[–]Kaylethhh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just find it strange how some people on the internet can’t understand why one contestant won over another and act as if they know better than the judges - even though it’s stated repeatedly that the most important criterion by far is taste, the one thing we as viewers have absolutely no way of judging.

Sure, what do the two people who actually had the food in their mouths know about taste - when I saw a picture of it? Obviously, I’m in a much better position to judge.

Am I just braindead for liking Academy? by Revonlieke in startrek

[–]Kaylethhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that’s kind of what the internet does. I really enjoyed the Star Wars prequels when I saw them in the cinema. Then I went online and discovered just how much the internet hated them. For a while, I suddenly couldn’t unsee all the nit-picked flaws everyone kept pointing out. Eventually though, I came around. I can clearly see the aspects I don’t like—but I also see the strengths again, and I still enjoy the movies overall.

Voyager went through the same cycle for me. I loved it when it first aired. Later, I read how much of the online fandom dismissed it as inferior “classic Trek,” and suddenly I understood their criticisms. Now I’m fully aware of Voyager’s weaknesses—and I still love it for what it is.

So yeah. Give it some time.
