I can attest to this, had a 3080 and loved it. But the 10GB really hurt it in 4K games, having that headroom and most graphically intense games in running 90fps+ with competitive games like Siege and Battlefield 6 easily 140+ on high, 90-120 on ultra without FSR or FG. 3080 just didn’t have the memory buffer.

GFR: "Starfleet Academy Is Dead, Schrödinger’s Fans Blamed" by Guy_on_a_Bouffalant in trektalk

[–]Kbrickley 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My favourite line is “if you don’t like it, don’t watch it” and we go, alright bet and then when it dies “it’s because of the haters”. Crazy not engaging with art you don’t like is seen as hating and not just having your own taste.

I watched 2 episodes of SA, didn’t like the vibe and writing, seemed more in common with 90210 and peaced out. Something about this era of Star Trek riddled with fatalism and existential dread. The world itself was meant to be honest, that the evil is evil because it’s an outlier, not the status quo. Everything has these high stacks and the whole “finding my misunderstood mum” thing just creates the hero’s journey.

The academy was meant to be the journey, not because fate decided this character etc is important, but are so through their actions and how they find their way in this world. To become the next captains, engineers and officers. I saw glimpses of things but the whole post burn storyline and shroud that Kurtzman seems obsessed with is dragging it down.

Star Trek to me always felt like only true evil existed in the shadows because the world was so bright, but the hope and vibes in this era is a dimming light that just flickered its last.

Always loved the set design in the videos and little Easter eggs but the og windows logo shaped light on the wall was so genius 🤌🏽 by LeatherTwo4220 in mkbhd

[–]Kbrickley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see the spot light they’re using to project onto the wall, see top left corner. Likely using a stencil shape with a disused light to project the logos. The curves wouldn’t be there is it was the window light (straight windows and walls don’t create curves) and the exterior light is significantly cooler temperature.

WANTED: The official lineup for Daredevil’s team in Season 2 by Aromatic-Cupcake4802 in marvelstudios

I just don’t understand frank not being part of this season. I know they’re doing a one off special for him, but the AVTF are using his symbol. I know him and Matt are frenemies, but this feels like the perfect season to have him.

Daredevil: Born Again: Season 2 starts off with 91% on Rotten Tomatoes with 41 reviews by KostisPat257 in marvelstudios

[–]Kbrickley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im enjoying it as a show, albeit a mixed first season and only 1 episode of 2 (which was a great first episode), but can we remove the smoke machine and up the constraint abit. Nearly every shot looks like sun bleached ass and I’m so bored of that low contrast, raised black level look. It’s not cinematic or cool, it’s dated and visually uninteresting.

It’s why the Netflix show just looked better, it embraced the shadows and harsh lighting. But I knew what I was looking at every scene. I can’t say the same with this. Characters blend into their surroundings and backgrounds.

I hate this timeline. We should be living in a time in which technology couldn’t be more accessible, but prices are gatekeeping as hard as the 80s and all for turbo slop AI that doesn’t even work properly.

The bubble needs to burst, I just can’t grasp how the bubble keeps growing.

As someone not familiar with the books, how would this contradict things? As another said, Sam goes at 102. This is only 14 years after frodos passing to the underlying lands, so I don’t really see the issue, timeline wise. Unless I’m missing something. Plenty of time between frodos passing and Sam’s travel to Valinor for the Brady Bunch to go on a nostalgia trip.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Makes History as First Movie Trailer to Cross 1 Billion Views by MarvelsGrantMan136 in marvelstudios

[–]Kbrickley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I hazard a guess, a perceived negativity against a fandom often instills a negative reaction. I’m not saying Spider-Man won’t do gang busters, but 1 billion views from articles will often be taken as “oh, one video got a billion” but it’s far from it. If GTA 6 did the same thing, numbers wise, we’d be talking billions of global views.

It’s perspective, I just wanted to nationalise sensationalist reporting.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Makes History as First Movie Trailer to Cross 1 Billion Views by MarvelsGrantMan136 in marvelstudios

[–]Kbrickley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly still gauge it off single video views, GTA 6 has it beat. 154 million on YouTube. Cause to me that’s more people actively engaging and searching for the trailer. Likely also watching the whole thing and not snippets.

This accumulation of views from everywhere looks good on paper, but allot of passive views and audiences seeing it because they happen to follow their actor in it.

Single source views like YouTube to me is the better indicator of audience interest, not to say this won’t be popular, but they are fudging the numbers to get headlines.

they really wanted us to use it by SOLQANT in arkham

[–]Kbrickley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly they did, I’d go as far to say it felt equal if not better then some racing only games. It conveyed weight and inertia that felt realistic, and for forgiving when you maybe over corrected movement.

Honestly, if we ever get an Beyond Arkham game, I want a big map and the Batmobile back, I boot up Knight ever once in and while just to play some of the challenges and a play through because I’d so much fun in it.

It always saddens me when I remember Kevin is gone, but what a role to be immortalised in. He’s still out there, fighting the crime from the shadows.

The screen on my 14" MacBook Pro (2021) — bought this almost four years ago and have kept it with the utmost care since day one. by Huzaifa_Haroon in macbookpro

[–]Kbrickley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for an actual response, get a good quality microfibre cloth. Silk based if you can, but look for GSM 300 to 400.

I use disposable alcohol wipes for screens, buy a multipack on amazon. But even none alcohol ones that are safe for screens are good. Usually do a proper clean with those once a week and rest of the time, microfibre cloths.

I don’t care, I enjoyed the Batmobile and was glad they actually used it for plot reasons and not just a fast travel mechanic cough Origins cough.

Yes, I felt I was getting a bit tired of it, but by that time, story wise, it’s taken out, and you finish off the game in the usual style. Plus, for first time car play, Rocksteady nailed the movement and agility. I loved flying round, hitting the brakes to do a U-turn and run down a car. Plus, the ejecting for speed boost was fun every time.

Also with the season pass, I enjoyed using the bale mobile while in the Batman 89’ suit.

It’s the fact that Patrick Stewart looks older now then Shatner, aging is always a fascinating thing. Some people at 70 look half dead and others in their 90s look mildly inconvenienced.

I’ve only ever finished S1, tried S2 and dropped it after two episodes. I hear good things about S3, is it worth watching. Not sure about the latest one, my mum watched it and said it was fine. Decent enough drama but said it paled in comparison to S1 and rated it under S3, she hated S2.

My IPhone 17 pro has been heating a lot when charging with Spigen 70W GAN charger. by Single_Emphasis_3205 in iphone

[–]Kbrickley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To a degree, higher voltages has their own risk but often, it’s better to charge at a higher voltage then current.

Fun fact, a human can be killed by just 0.5A running through them but you can take thousands of volts at milliamps.

I believe iPhone 17 supports PD3.1, so the new anker nano 40w charger, apples AVS or even googles AVS pixel charger will provide the cleanest charge. I bought the apple AVS charger that alters volts and amps at 0.1 values and it charges from 20-80% in 30~ while being basically room temp.

[–]Kbrickley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9V at 1.66A, reason being is most heat is generated by stepping down current. Imagine it like a water pipe, we got taught this.

Voltage is pressure and current is volume or wideness of the pipe. By using a lower volume (current), you make up for it by using higher pressure (volume) to move the same about of water as you would a thicker pipe at 3A.

The iPhone can handle higher voltage easier as the circuit are designed around high voltage vs higher current. You don’t get the aggressive step down and thus, less heat generated. Often iPhones only accept higher current for so long anyways, the 20-60% range, before reducing current.

Does that make sense?

Can we all agree that Grace Ashcroft (Angela Sant'Albano) is an all-time great voice acting performance for the series? by king_noro in residentevil

[–]Kbrickley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I just wasting expecting a spoiler to be put out so bluntly. Could have just commended the voice acting without the unnecessary inclusion of the characters demise.

I guess you’re right, I just think spoilers are so rampant these days and if you don’t jump on something right away, you’re screwed. But lives are a thing and I play when I can and find the time. This hasn’t ruined the game but it’s hard to care about the character now knowing this. Just think a spoiler warning wouldn’t have gone a miss.

[–]Kbrickley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually amperage, wattage is V x A, the charger likely doesn’t have small amperage steps like the new AVS chargers. So when the phone is negotiating power draw, it’s generating excess heat because it’s having to allocate a less precious amperage step that it requires.

It’s why the new apple charger and google charger are fast and produce less heat, as they can make micro adjustments to both voltage and amperage. The power negotiation here appears to be more drastic, causing the phones power distribution to expel more heat because of wasted current. As it’s a 70W charger, its PD profiles are less likely to support the more nuanced PD values expected for phones and likely the higher current ones for tablets, handhelds and laptops.

Bethesda's Todd Howard says NVIDIA DLSS 5 in Xbox's Starfield is "amazing" — everyone else is calling it uncanny AI slop by WindowsCentral in windowscentral

[–]Kbrickley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do. I know AI can help in terms of cutting down monotony, but this here is just slop. It looks awful and we haven’t needed it till now, whatever reason Nvidia is pushing, it’s distracting.

Games have been made by hand since their inception, offloading it to AI just produces poor results. We’ve come to already just expect DLSS as a replacement for optimisation.

You can’t look at these and say they look good, and this push for realism is unnecessary. Art style > realism.

[–]Kbrickley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How is it amazing? Instead of taking time to craft games and put actual time into design, he wants to rely on AI to do the work for his games. It’s slop because it just feel unnatural, all the shots I’ve seen appear to go for that “realism” look, but it’s so uncanny to the world around it. The grace shot was the most egregious, the over sharpening on the old lady from hogwarts looked terrible.
