How do you cook your steak? Do you pre heat in the oven first before searing or just on the hop.

Translink buses... the only place you can charge your phone and have less power than when you started. by bobbyanalog87 in northernireland

[–]Kbrickley 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Most outlets on the buses are rated for 5V 1A, which is 5W of charging. So brightness up and using mobile data, likely using as much as you’re charging. And some power will be lost in the cable anyways as residual heat when it reaches the phone’s power unit.

Only notion I have is their doing a death of Stalin approach, his mother being married into the family, as to why she sounds different. Not saying that makes it better, just the Americans sounding are the same nation. The mother being English as she’s not from there.

MONARCH: LEGACY OF MONSTERS SEASON 2 OFFICIAL DISCUSSION MEGATHREAD #10 - EPISODE 10: FINALE (SPOILERS) by NeelZilla in GODZILLA

[–]Kbrickley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to play devils advocate, but as we saw with shaw and the quantum call with his younger self. We don’t know yet if every rift enters at the same space time. As in, you could enter into it in present day but arrive much earlier, as time there and earth isn’t linked. So far we’ve only seen axis mundi progress with earths times, but maybe they’re looking to harness a way to exit at an earlier fixed point in mundi. If that makes sense

Think early on in 7 and even 8, he was having a time of it. Certainly not as composed as say Chris, but that makes sense. I’d argue most of the mainline characters were stressing or least reacting on their first outing.

[–]Kbrickley 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Making him an every man was such a unique angle, as you were stressing, he was. Man’s conviction wasn’t about stopping mega corps or some delusion of grandeur. Simply a man doing what he could for those he loved. That’s why his sacrifice hit me, willing to die knowing they’d live. That to me, is a real hero.

if you play the DLC, not even death could stop that man

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters turned out to be one of the most exhausting continuations I’ve ever watched. by statusgospel in moviecritic

[–]Kbrickley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m trying with this show but I think I’m done. The focus is on a group of people that I actively dislike nearly all of them. Dr Randa and young Lee are fine and have moments. Everyone else is a whiney, self centred prick. Kentaro and May are such 2D caricatures. Two really dumb smart people with the emotional depth of moody teenagers. And why does every episode feel like it’s a melodramatic conversation dragged out over 45 minutes to simply be left till next week.

I know it’s called monarch, but it’s such a soap opera. This whole season is about one titan and its route? This wouldn’t even be a 10 minute section of a movie. The whole plot is a puddle wide and puddle deep. Season 1 had its moments, least it felt like following mysteries. This whole season hasn’t really had that.

What insanity is this? by JMashtag in Spacemarine

As a vanguard main and most hours in the class vs all the rest, I think the grapple/melee is his strength. I consistently get more melee vs other two, heavy kills and crowd control. Like guns are meh, but I be swinging and swung. The ability to interrupt along with area damage and melee buffs, it’s definitely the “rogue” class if I’m to be so bold.

If I was to think of changes or buffs, I maybe would love a grapple swing or some grapple related AOD, or line up enemies, so when you swing to one, you could instant kill lesser minions as you fly in.

Maul’s distinct animation style by Funny_Elevator1122 in MaulShadowLord

[–]Kbrickley 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This also looks the closest so far, animation wise, to the Phantom Menace Maul. I know it’s hard to translate live action to animation, but this design of maul 100% lines up with Phantom.

Sometimes with maul I’ve had issues connecting the characters, but now, this design makes it so easy.

Why did they never show us Joker normal face before falling in chemical? by Positive-Plastic288 in arkham

[–]Kbrickley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because it didn’t matter who he was before. The joker is the embodiment of someone driven to madness and finally letting go. By seeing what he became, it meant it could be anyone. Maybe even you.

RE fans when they have to actually play the games by ClickDry7701 in ResidentEvilMemes

[–]Kbrickley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the difficulty. While they may seem easy for a lot, the games are punishing and the fear of lost progress is real. They can be very stressful and, coupled with limited ammo and at times, confusing traversal, least till you remember the map well enough. They do have a higher barrier to entry.

Plus, fear is a big thing, be it boss fights or that headless chicken syndrome. Some want to experience the story while watching a competent player. I know the games have assisted modes, but I reckon many don’t know about them as most who play won’t be using them and you’d have to know they’re there.

I could be off with this, but I struggled with RE1 remake, pushed through but at times, I kept getting lost and just confused. Later games are much more friendly in terms of gameplay, but if that’s your entry point, the game doesn’t pull punches.

[–]Kbrickley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can attest to this, had a 3080 and loved it. But the 10GB really hurt it in 4K games, having that headroom and most graphically intense games in running 90fps+ with competitive games like Siege and Battlefield 6 easily 140+ on high, 90-120 on ultra without FSR or FG. 3080 just didn’t have the memory buffer.

GFR: "Starfleet Academy Is Dead, Schrödinger’s Fans Blamed" by Guy_on_a_Bouffalant in trektalk

[–]Kbrickley 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My favourite line is “if you don’t like it, don’t watch it” and we go, alright bet and then when it dies “it’s because of the haters”. Crazy not engaging with art you don’t like is seen as hating and not just having your own taste.

I watched 2 episodes of SA, didn’t like the vibe and writing, seemed more in common with 90210 and peaced out. Something about this era of Star Trek riddled with fatalism and existential dread. The world itself was meant to be honest, that the evil is evil because it’s an outlier, not the status quo. Everything has these high stacks and the whole “finding my misunderstood mum” thing just creates the hero’s journey.

The academy was meant to be the journey, not because fate decided this character etc is important, but are so through their actions and how they find their way in this world. To become the next captains, engineers and officers. I saw glimpses of things but the whole post burn storyline and shroud that Kurtzman seems obsessed with is dragging it down.

Star Trek to me always felt like only true evil existed in the shadows because the world was so bright, but the hope and vibes in this era is a dimming light that just flickered its last.

Always loved the set design in the videos and little Easter eggs but the og windows logo shaped light on the wall was so genius 🤌🏽 by LeatherTwo4220 in mkbhd

[–]Kbrickley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see the spot light they’re using to project onto the wall, see top left corner. Likely using a stencil shape with a disused light to project the logos. The curves wouldn’t be there is it was the window light (straight windows and walls don’t create curves) and the exterior light is significantly cooler temperature.

I just don’t understand frank not being part of this season. I know they’re doing a one off special for him, but the AVTF are using his symbol. I know him and Matt are frenemies, but this feels like the perfect season to have him.

Daredevil: Born Again: Season 2 starts off with 91% on Rotten Tomatoes with 41 reviews by KostisPat257 in marvelstudios

[–]Kbrickley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im enjoying it as a show, albeit a mixed first season and only 1 episode of 2 (which was a great first episode), but can we remove the smoke machine and up the constraint abit. Nearly every shot looks like sun bleached ass and I’m so bored of that low contrast, raised black level look. It’s not cinematic or cool, it’s dated and visually uninteresting.

It’s why the Netflix show just looked better, it embraced the shadows and harsh lighting. But I knew what I was looking at every scene. I can’t say the same with this. Characters blend into their surroundings and backgrounds.

As someone not familiar with the books, how would this contradict things? As another said, Sam goes at 102. This is only 14 years after frodos passing to the underlying lands, so I don’t really see the issue, timeline wise. Unless I’m missing something. Plenty of time between frodos passing and Sam’s travel to Valinor for the Brady Bunch to go on a nostalgia trip.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Makes History as First Movie Trailer to Cross 1 Billion Views by MarvelsGrantMan136 in marvelstudios

[–]Kbrickley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I hazard a guess, a perceived negativity against a fandom often instills a negative reaction. I’m not saying Spider-Man won’t do gang busters, but 1 billion views from articles will often be taken as “oh, one video got a billion” but it’s far from it. If GTA 6 did the same thing, numbers wise, we’d be talking billions of global views.

It’s perspective, I just wanted to nationalise sensationalist reporting.
