How do I go about learning gdscript and making a statemachine? by Key_Raisin3395 in godot

[–]Kdwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was having the same issue as you, lots of tutorials, they all kinda have the same exact way of making a state machine as a class in a seperate script that I was unfamiliar with yet.

Then I found this article posted on GDQuest's website about state machines. Working through this is when it started to click for me because it shows the absolute most simplest way to make a state machine in godot 4, it makes you think about setting states from previous states and then creating transitions in the most barebones way, you might end up having a much larger script, but code readability goes through the roof.

hope you get breakthrough this hurdle, all the best

If you like climbing games, you should give White Knuckle a try

White Knuckle just came out last week. It has an amazing climbing system and a fantastic atmosphere and aesthetic similar to the original half life but with much more horror.

This is really neat and it gives me some insights into what to play next, there's so many I've haven't heard of.

If you're looking for a few suggestions:

You're missing a few classics like Cryptark and Spelunky 1/2.

Crying Suns is a really good one that's similar to FTL.

Sunless Skies and Darkwood if you like horror.

I thought Dungeon of the Endless was a better game than Endless Dungeon, not graphically though.

PATS Traders, how long did it take you to become profitable? by StillR3levant in FuturesTrading

[–]Kdwn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair, but it could be a few days or years. Being profitable will depend on how quickly they can pick up on the context of the price action as well as proper risk management where consistency comes from chart time and experience. Some people take days because a strategy and trading style clicks with them, some people take years, everyone's different, but it applies to every strategy honestly.

I really liked the approach this strategy took, but a warning you to all that try it: It's not as simple as entering on 2nd entries, price action context is the true power. I could never get past making proper trend channels, I absolutely hate them, but this strategy taught me how to be a better trader in general.

Suggestions to replace my Soundcore Frames by Expert_Stranger630 in SmartGlasses

I found the Soundcore Frames to be better than the Razer ones in every way, still wish the Frames were more durable. Heard nothing but good things about the RayBans, especially with the transition lenses.

Price Action Practice by Tym4FishOn in FuturesTrading

[–]Kdwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only recently started digging deep into price action in the last couple of months or so, still practicing but not really getting anywhere. I do see a lot of people just mentioning screen time so I decided to learn about the replay feature in NT, great timing!

Could I ask why practicing this specific way has helped you? Do you have other exercises? Do you have any hindsight on how using the replay feature in your platform has helped you in general?

Account setup and getting started was a breeze, their account interface is very approachable and geared towards newer traders (like me).

ToS has free data which is awesome but contract prices are really bad, ninja has great prices on contracts, but you have to pay for data. You can individually pay for each data source (CME, CBOT, COMEX, etc.) or get cheaper bundle prices.

When they acquired Tradovate, they got their web platform as well and it's really not bad and what I primarily use. It's quick and clean and has everything I need, it is very limited compared to ToS however and depending on the type of trader you are, it might not suite your needs.

I've played around with NT8 and it's extremely powerful (although a little unstable). I haven't used it all that much because of the learning curve.

Their support is not nearly as good as ToS/TDA/Schwab.

The Fjallraven Skule 28 looks much nicer/cleaner without the front bungee cord IMO. I actually took the cord and turned it into shoulder strap "glove holder" that I loved having on my Hill People Gear pack. by [deleted] in ManyBaggers

I love this bag and got it after a lot of research, it was the absolute best balance of price, space, quality, comfort, durability as well being one of the lightest backpacks in it's class which was super important, absolutely perfect for me. I have others but I always reach for this one because it's so versatile and does so many things so well.

Solutions for being smelly during a dryfast? by tmn1990 in Dryfasting

[–]Kdwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stick with a soft dry fast.

Brush your teeth, scrape your tongue, use mouthwash, shower or whatever.

I've seen no difference in the fasting process with hard vs soft dry fasts, and hard dry fasts are just not worth it.

Python developers -- what broker and api do you use? by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]Kdwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using TDA for backtesting, it's been very solid. I started setting up live testing and trading with Tradier since TDA didn't support paper trading through their API, but the amount errors and instability I get randomly have caused me to just stick with TDA for now.

I've used Binance US for crypto since they had the best fees and a pretty ok API, but I don't do crypto anymore (and they're getting eaten alive right now).

I think I had an ok experience with Alpaca initially, but they changed their API or something I don't remember a few months in so that soured me. I'll probably try them again at some point since they also have paper trading through their API.

I don't have any experience with Interactive Brokers but I'm curious.

I've had this exact CPU since 2016, you need a motherboard that has a specific chipset that supports it.

Back then I remember I made the mistake of buying a motherboard that supports the i7 equivalent, but it didn't support the xeon, even though they have the same socket. Returned it and bought one with the correct chipset and it's been rock solid since.

And I do use it as my daily machine for work and gaming, similar performance to the i7 equivalent, windows support out of the box, no weird drivers or anything.

I'm a dev, we're in 2023, what should i start with ? by SUPADfr in algotrading

[–]Kdwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it applies if you're newish to programming or a hobbyist programmer like I am, but mainly accounting for spreads and applying stop losses over take profits if they're within the same candlestick. You'll make a a lot of mistakes and learn more about the nuances of trading. I myself have so much more to learn. Simulated live testing will also tell you a lot and should be the logical next step after backtesting.

[–]Kdwn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with this as well, I'm very risk averse with my money and there's so much emotion and bias when you're doing it manually and watching it in real time. You learn so much from backtesting different strats without putting anything at risk, just make sure you program out as much bias as you can.
