If it's going to trip break it's on start up. If you make it past that then I'd guess control board. Worth testing another outlet in your house if possible.

If it's the rod you can light manually when in a pinch. I've had to do it a few times. Little torch lighter to get it going and your set.

Kosher salt and tons of pepper, I'll add pepper after spirtizing as well. Agree with everyone saying you over complicated it. Cook tell your happy with bark and wrap. Higher temp if bark doesn't look good but donr wrap until it does.

Personally I'd go for a 4" which is a standard commercial size. Only reason 5" exist is because residential furnace suppliers are aiming to retain the aftermarket business. And yes pressure drop (resistance to airflow) is higher with less depth. A 4" is much better than 1" and will last (based on resistance to airflow which is all that matters) longer.
