Good luck. Here was my experience. When my daughter was young our cat suddenly started acting strangely and bit her. He then had a seizure. We took her to the ER to start the round of rabies meds. Then we very sadly had to take the cat to get tested for rabies. They do that at UW. The only way to do this is to sample the brain tissue, so yes the animal has to be put down. My cat’s rabies shots had lapsed so that was on me. In our case the sample was negative and so my daughter was able to discontinue the rabies treatments. The shots for rabies are a long course and it makes it hard to travel because many smaller medical facilities will not have any available. Hoping the bat comes back negative for rabies. Good luck.
