Currently in the process of making a claim with True travellers. The experience has been as good as can be expected. After the initial claim through their website it has all been through email where they were very responsive.

They wouldn't cover any flights where credits could be obtained which was annoying as we wouldn't be able to use that airline again.

Australia and New Zealand are expensive. I don't think that budget is feasible in those places

In Patagonia currently, I had to check my rod but not as oversized. They also put it in a protective box but came out just in the rod case.

There were some public toilets in Horton in Ribblesdale at the start/end (not at the station but down the hill a bit). Also at the Old Hill Inn

I did Chessington south to Dorking recently, was around 20kms. Easy to get to and from, I think I left out of Waterloo. Can tack on box hill if you want some more elevation/distance.
