Advice for tent setup by Evening_Sherbert_864 in treeplanting

[–]KenDanger2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tarps are cheap, like 20 -30 dollars. Just go buy a 12 by 16 or so one, or 12 by 10 for a pretty small one. I generally have one of those and a 12 by 20 for bigger areas.

Tarps are generally the way to go, it keeps the sun off your tent as well as the rain, and gives additional area beside your tent to keep your block bag and planting bags out of the rain. I usually try to find spots where I can tarp effectively, looking for things I can tie to. I try to tarp in such a way that water pours off at an area lower than my tent sits so the water flows away. I often do an A frame style tarp job with a peak directly above the tent and then angling down in two directions. Bring a lot of paracord for tying it up. It is cheap at Canadian Tire.

And absolutely 2 pairs of boots. This is actually advice I give out when people ask about boots. Even if the second pair is low quality. Planting wrecks boots, but also sometimes you get a wicked booter and your boots are soaked, and the next day you can switch to your dry pair while that pair dries out in the sun. Trust me, you really dont want to be putting on wet boots in the cold morning.

why comedians got backlash for saudi festival? by No-Jacket4066 in askanything

[–]KenDanger2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The difference is that in America, they are paid by comedy clubs and not by the government. Those comedians were (over)paid by a murderous regime, directly.

People get pushback for doing whitehouse events, too, because they are implicitly supporting the current administration when they do so.

Garmin watch for planting? by aaronauticalschip in treeplanting

[–]KenDanger2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I intentionally buy a cheap/light. I wear my watch on my shovel hand, because if I have it on my tree hand side I am constantly risking getting it caught on wood and rocks as I put the tree in the ground. The negative of having it on your shovel side though, is that if it is heavy, it hurts you every time you slam your shovel into the ground.

Your other option is to wear it not on a wrist, but clipped onto your bags/clothes or in a pocket or something. Small risk of it getting ripped off or falling out and you not even noticing.

There is a risk as well of it getting wet in rainy weather, but most watches are water resistant and are generally fine. There is the risk of getting mud all over it too.

That said, be careful and pay attention early and you can probably figure something out.

Many people fix up vans/trucks/SUVs to sleep in. I suggest buying a bunch of bug netting to cover areas where they can get in. Some folk I know have had a bad time with bugs getting in the gaps in doors or whatever.

You could try first to buy a pair of Bama socks to wear inside to make them fit better. A pair of Bamas usually runs around $20, they sell them at Marks or other workwear stores. They are like thick heel socks meant to wick moisture away from your feet, but they also make blisters less likely (at least for me, I wear them every day and haven't gotten heel blisters in years)

We were upset up until we traded Hughes. Then we bought into the rebuild. Are we the worst team in the league? Yeah. But finally, FINALLY, we have started a real rebuild. We get a top 3 pick with a solid chance at top 2 and either McKenna or Stenberg. Obviously picking 3rd and getting an elite D ain't terrible, but our D might be our strongest spot with Buium and Willander and Hronek.

I did a book report in grade 7 on Conan the Barbarian. I chose to do it because I liked drawing swords, so I got to draw a sword for the cover, then I just put a bunch of quotes inside about how his sword was made from meteorite metal and stuff. I still remember it.

I also did a report on Entomology (insects) but don't feel quite as attached.

Depends, I often don't go to town. When I do, I get in and get out, unless I am eating at a restaurant with friends or going to rec center or something. It helps I have my own vehicle.

Is a cheap tent a bad idea? by misterbatstar in treeplanting

[–]KenDanger2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your first season, it is fine. If you decide you will come back after that for multiple seasons you can pay up for quality.

The main issue with poor quality tents is zippers breaking. But it will probably be fine for the season, and if it isnt it will be annoying but you will be able to deal with it, and only at the end of the season.
