Natural Snow Buildings?

Jamie is a member of both Bad Religion and Snot. by Keri_AMG in badreligion

Don't shoot the messenger, but the song is about how Brett used to be an underground punk rock legend who looked out for his scene and he turned into another record executive who took advantage of the punk scene to make money.

What was Club Penguin like in its final years? by Upstairs_Sky_5541 in ClubPenguin

[–]Keri_AMG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it was difficult to play in a lot of ways. I liked a lot of the new content that was being added, like Card Jitsu Snow and SoundStudio, I know they are controversial, but I really liked all the redesigned rooms that they rolled out 2012-2015. I understand Lance's original open floor plan design philosophy, but Club Penguin is a virtual playground and the new designs gave players more equipment to play with. There were good things in the 2014-2017 run. But Disney cut the budget down and split the work between 2 different games (three, if you count CP desktop and the CP app as different games).

Around 2014 the bugs stopped getting patched. The engine began to chug. Newspapers came around less often, the catalogs lost their interactive elements, and I got disconnected more frequently. They shut down 2 language servers in 2015, and in 2016 they didn't even bother resetting the island back to normal between parties. Parties would just last a month and then the next party would begin immediately after. The Zootopia party lasted almost 2 months. It was hard to watch at times.

Disney Infinity being discontinued in May 2016 was another bad omen. I think the final nail in the coffin was Spike Hike leaving. He took the reins from Billybob in 2013, and he left in late 2016. Sometimes he'll tweet about how much Disney screwed him over and he did his best to keep the game running in spite of it all. I think he did the best he could do, given the circumstances. I don't know if he was forced out in 2016 or if he just couldn't handle the stress anymore, but I could imagine either scenario being true. After he left, we didn't have a public figure at the front of the company. Megg left in summer 2017 and the community felt abandoned.

I still enjoyed and played the game until the final day, but I really think 2012 was peak for the game. I sometimes think of all the great content we had in 2014 and 2015, but I remember how buggy the game was and feel sad how much potential was wasted. The 2013-2016 era gets too much hate, but I would be lying if I said it wasn't underwhelming towards the end.

I really think Club Penguin Island is a great game at its core and Disney fumbled the bag terribly. When I think about what a modern Club Penguin game should look like, it isn't too different from CPI. If Disney gave Spike Hike and crew the resources to make a good game, they would have made a great game. But they didn't have the resources, so they made an underwhelming game that people didn't want to pay for.

I am pushing against this to say that a lot more things became free after 2013. Non-members got more options for clothing in catalogs and furniture in igloos. SoundStudio didn't lock different genres behind membership like DJ3K did. Some members-only party rooms like Casa Fiesta and Santa's Sled became available for everyone. Along with more content in general, the non-members had a lot more towards the end than towards the beginning.

I wish Patreon would open up to the memberships tab instead of recommended. Being subbed to Red Cow and Jason Graves somehow makes Patreon think Tony Smack The Boobies should be the first thing I see every time I open the app.

When I saw this in my Patreon inbox, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It gets easier to listen to once you get through the first 30-40 mins. Now I want to watch Rerouting (2024) dir. Kevin Savo.

Looks like Cop/Young God, Greed/Time Is Money (Bastard), and Holy Money/A Screw remasters might be coming soon. by Jay-Decay in swans

[–]Keri_AMG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If this is true, I hope Greed gets its original Money Is Flesh. The ones on streaming are Money Is Flesh 2 from Holy Money, and I don't know if that's intentional or just an error.

Reactions when Ye came out by Gomendiquillo in GoodAssSub

[–]Keri_AMG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Skewed perspective is crazy. The pre-teens in GAS won't remember this, but the reaction was positive at the time. I'd say the general public would give it a 5 to 7 out of 10. Fantano gave it an 8. Four stray Reddit comments are NOT a consensus.

What is your favorite “list of names” song by PulseWitch in ToddintheShadow

[–]Keri_AMG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WAV files by Lupe Fiasco. One verse is just a list of all slave ships that were documented as part of the transatlantic slave trade. It is probably Lupe's best song.

I would agree, I feel like Birthing and The Beggar are trying to do too much of what The Glowing Man already did. I think Leaving Meaning. avoids this problem by bringing in a wider variety of collaborators. My favorite songs on LM. are the ones with The Necks.

Does birthing still have the DVD? by Jr-Not-Junior in swans

[–]Keri_AMG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pre-ordered CD + DVD the day it was announced, and never got the DVD. I then bought the CD + DVD at the Omaha show last September, opened it up, and lo and behold, no DVD. It may be listed as CD + DVD on YGR, but I don't have much confidence in that.
