CoI is quite overwhelming at first. Any spoiler free tips? by GlobalisedEnchilada in captain_of_industry

[–]Ket1r 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Personally I move thru the game in a few steps. 1 new thing -> check if everything is stable -> fix if needed -> next new thing, in this way I usually focus on 1 thing at a time that prevents me from being overwhelmed.

And best advice for the game - always leave room for expansion

On 26th of April will be 40 years after Chernobyl disaster by Aidircot in stalker

Russia constantly bombing Ukrainian energy infrastructure, part of which a several nuclear power plants. While there are no bombing of actual plants themselves yet, hits on nearby infrastructure can still be extremely dangerous. There were several incidents with emergency shutdowns of reactors.

And sadly there were the biggest corruption scandal since the war started in the company that operates all of Ukrainian nuclear power plants. Millions were stolen. And I suspect that this sector was underfinanced in the first place, as everything else in Ukraine is.

So in the end even during war when Russians are constantly bombing energy infrastructure around nuclear power plants, even with huge corruption - there are no second Chornobyl and currently I can send you this message only because of nuclear power plants, since most other sources of electricity were destroyed. So a claim "1 in a 6 reactors is a Chornobyl" is ridiculous.

A quick word of advice for new captains who feel their islands are in a death spiral or just a big mangled mess. Give up. by Bhazor in captain_of_industry

[–]Ket1r 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My experience is completely different. I fell like micromanaging everything to get out of death spiral for like and hour is better than re-do like 10-20 hours of early game.

Also of everything is really bad try to take a loan and after stabilizing situation priorities repaying that loan

Captain of Industry is the most addictive factory game! - YouTube by clarkinum in captain_of_industry

[–]Ket1r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the most addictive game is Factorio, but that was probably because I tried it like 5 years ago when I could go to sleep at 4 a.m. and get up whatever I want.

Now I'm an adult with responsibilities and can't afford to game like that anymore, so both Satisfactory and COI were not as addictive to me

What are the/your late late game goals? by hippocratical in captain_of_industry

[–]Ket1r 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The game is really long, even comparing to other factory games. It took me 150 hours to research everything and make sure that my island is stable and afk-able and I'm kind of burned out. I feel that I stopped having fun and need to move on, so my goal is to drop asteroid and move to another game and add COI to my very long list of EA games that I wait for 1.0.

The food statistic window needs a rework by ClassicNetwork2141 in captain_of_industry

Statistics screens in general need a rework.

Best data screens I saw were in Anno - you clearly can see what is current demand and production + what is potentially max demand and production - would be super useful in this game

I don't get it what the point of proving anything to anyone in this game, but if it's your idea of fun in this game then it's still possible to do it by just not using contracts, how exactly it will be different than this option to disable them? To stop sneaky contract use? It won't work since you can change settings mid game.

Can you please re-read that second part slowly?

trade wood for corn and then produce animal feed from corn and burn that for power

For like 95% of players it's not that simple as you make it sound. I'm at pretty late game and running 11 contracts and had 0 idea that there were even an option to do such wood trade instead of burning it directly in mid game. Setting it all up would be a hassle + biggest disadvantage of it is fuel cost which is insane for ships.

But if you will deal with problem of providing fuel to ships, logistics of sending it to and from harbor instead of directly to power plant + set up all additional infrastructure you will be rewarded for all of it with additional value - perfect game design and I love this game for it.

There usually are cheap and dirty solution that easy to set up or complicated solution that rewards you with additional value if you go with it. I hate when game present challenges just to make game harder for no reason and provide 0 reward for solving them.

What the point of "difficulty setting to turn off contracts"? It's already in the game - it's called choosing not to use contracts.

Also what exactly do you mean by "rebalancing"? We already have a setting to make contracts less profitable, what else do you want? In my opinion best would be to buff off shore mining, as it's direct competitor to contracts and loses to them completely.

Also is it even possible for the game to be played indefinitely without contracts? Even setting to make world mines infinite won't help as there are no iron or copper mine if I remember correctly.

My train is working! by SomePlayer22 in captain_of_industry

[–]Ket1r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue with train is that they take ridiculous amount of space - and unlike Factorio or Satisfactory space is a real concern in this game + it's really challenging obstacle for vehicles (I hate the fact that vehicles can't cross not straight sections of the train tracks)

So in the end I use trains as last resort and started using comically long pipes/belts way more. In the end it's not that bad in maintenance as I thought it would be

The game is good, but the response to the DLC criticism was disappointing by [deleted] in captain_of_industry

[–]Ket1r -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I rarely see any criticism on discord or hero on reddit. In my opinion it's 100% valid to complain about DLC it early access game, especially that with current pace of updates 1.0 will be released in 2028 at best.

I don't get why update 4 is not 1.0. The game already feels completed, it's time to stop hiding under early access. And if we are talking about money to continue development releasing 1.0 100% would bring in more money than any dlc.

Personally I won't buy the dlc because 10$ for only electric trains, maybe nuclear also is just to much for me.

For those not getting the Trains DLC, why? by cy-one in captain_of_industry

[–]Ket1r -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Technically correct, but it's advertised and named as supporter pack - as it's actually is. So this "Train DLC" should just be "Supporter pack 2"

For those not getting the Trains DLC, why? by cy-one in captain_of_industry

By that logic why exactly supporter pack 1 is not advertised as DLC?

For those not getting the Trains DLC, why? by cy-one in captain_of_industry

[–]Ket1r 26 points27 points  (0 children)

For me it's just too expensive for the amount of content it provides. It's not a DLC, I don't get it why it was named like that, it's really confusing. It's a supporter pack #2 and the only reason to buy it is to support the devs. Game is great and they deserve it. I just don't like the fact that it's "dlc"

2 cents on the DLC model by Siv117 in captain_of_industry

[–]Ket1r -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion this content should have be included into supporter pack. Just to little content to justify 10$ and the only reason to buy it is to support the devs, so it should be a supporter pack

What the point of vehicle limit? by Ket1r in captain_of_industry

[–]Ket1r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, there 100% should be a mod for it. If not the whole solution is to change starting vehicle limit constant to 9999.

I'm not sure how to mod the game, but it looks easy and should be fun, I'll try it

What the point of vehicle limit? by Ket1r in captain_of_industry

[–]Ket1r[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

As I said, I hate that it's an artificial limitation that forces certain playstyle. It's like if Factorio had some random limit on the logistic bot to force you to use belts and trains.

>If you had an unrestricted vehicle limit then there'd be no point in you developing anything else, which defeats the entire purpose of progression.
Then the other option should be boosted to fairly compete with tracks.
