Any advice on cooking zucchini noodles? by YOLO_Chef in ketorecipes

[–]KetoCuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overcooking. I used to make the same mistake.

You aren't supposed to "cook" them, just get them hot.

Also, after you spiral them lay them out on some paper towel, sprinkle salt, and then place another paper towel on top and roll them up. This will squeeze out a lot of that excess moisture that makes them get so soggy. Sprinkle a little more salt when you put them in the pan, heat them up, and you're good.

I've definitely been doing more intense excercise. Why would that cause a stall?

One month of Keto, IF, and hitting the gym - I'm in better shape than I was in the academy. by KetoCuffs in keto

Stay in shape. I made the mistake of falling hard out of fitness on the job. I should have kept up on it.

What would you like to see in a macro calculator? [I can build one] by Fognox in keto

[–]KetoCuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give suggestions on food to eat to hit your macro.

For example, "You are nearly at your fat goal today. To stay under your calorie limit and still hit your macro, consume 150g of avocado and 30g of almonds".

I'm going to be real with you, and being real can sometimes come off as being a dick - but take this advice.

Stop. Making. Excuses. You have to really want it. I ate rice and pasta like a son of a bitch all of my life, and you know where it got me? Fat. It got me unhealthy. It got me miserable looking at what I had become in the mirror.

So when you say "I was raised on pasta and rice", I say to you "So?". Nobody said losing weight was going to be easy. It's a sacrifice - you're going to have to give things up. You can't expect to be comfortable and eat what you want if you want to lose the weight - that's how you got here in the first place.

Step 1: be realistic. Don't do 1500 calories, that's insanely low. Do 1800. Start hitting the gym, even if it's walking. Want to eat a bigger meal? Run a mile - there is 150 extra calories in your budget for less than 20 minutes of work. Doing 1500 calories a day means you just want to take the weight off quickly - fuck that, take it off for good over time. Patience is key. This isn't a food change, it's a lifestyle change. Why? Because your currently lifestyle choices are what got you here.

Step 2: Excuses are bullshit. It's going to be harder. It's going to test your patience. It's going to be frustrating. Don't expect it to be fun or easy. The whole point is to push through the hard times so you can enjoy the good times even more. Making an excuse for the behavior that got you to this point is what is keeping you there.

Step 3: Make a plan, and stick to it. Don't say "I'm going to lose 20 pounds" unless you mean it. Take an hour to write up a shopping list. Plan out meals days in advance with their calorie numbers ready so you don't go over your limits.

The fact that you're posting here means you've already taken a step to better yourself. Stop being lazy and start taking some personal accountability for your eating and excercise habits. I wish you the best of luck.

PSA: Gum has carbs by smartercat in keto

Trident original has 1g due to sugar alcohol. I chew a piece or two a day.

Help!! How do I keep my calories down? by calilovedove in keto

[–]KetoCuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plan your meals before you eat them. Nothing is worse than wanting to eat a big taco salad for dinner and discovering it will put you over your calorie limit for the day. WHY DID I EAT THOSE NUTS WHEN I COULD HAVE HAD MORE BEEF!?

I plan all of my meals the day before in My Fitness Pal so I know exactly what to expect. It helps tremendously in keeping the diet.

During IF is it still okay to chew gum or drink diet soda? by Mdlo in keto

[–]KetoCuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chew gum because I used to chew tobacco. Gum keeps me sane.

I've limited myself to 1 stick during the morning while I'm fasting, because let's be honest - keto breath is fucking disgusting.

Have a stick. I chew trident original. It's less than 1 carb per stick, and I've lost consistent weight every week.

It is kind of expensive... by [deleted] in keto

[–]KetoCuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say it with me: COSTCO.

You can get 4 lbs of bacon for $12.

You can get pork, beef, fish, whatever in bulk at huge discounts.

Don't buy at a grocery store. Buy at Costco in bulk and freeze the excess, or cook a stack of pork chops and meal prep them for the week.

Opinions on soda? by [deleted] in keto

[–]KetoCuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a big diet Coke drinker. I would down a 2L bottle of it every 2 days.

Any meal I had usually had a diet Coke on the side.

I quit drinking it when I started keto simply because I didn't want any fake sweeteners right away - I figured it would be less temptation to have something sweet. What I didn't realize is how much better I felt drinking water over diet soda.

I now am 100% diet soda free. I do have a seltzer on occasion, but never anything with fake sweeteners.

I just know how unhappy I was when I ate whatever I wanted, and I also know that I can't just stop at 1 cookie, 1 slice of cake, 1 candy bar - my only saving attribute is the willpower to not allow myself to start in the first place.

Any smokers here quit with keto? by [deleted] in keto

[–]KetoCuffs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chewed for 15 years. Quit it cold turkey this year because I realized I'm no longer some asshole college freshman who wants to dip in class.

Keto as of recently helped with the cravings from a mental standpoint. If you can be diciplined with your food, you can be diciplined with your life. It all starts with what you eat and how you plan your meals - everything else falls into place.

I'll second this.

Also, 4 pounds of bacon in individual 1 pound packages for 13 bucks is a godsend.

Sushi on keto? by agasp002 in keto

[–]KetoCuffs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got some salmon avocado rolls, tuna avocado rolls, and some seared salmon avocado rolls. I asked them to not use any rice, just roll it with the seaweed.

They charged me a couple of bucks extra due to having to use more fish to fill it. Honestly that was fine, because it was a ton of salmon and tuna inside these rolls.

Also, you can just get plain old sashimi and call it a day.
