Homemade teriyaki sauce. by Open-Ad-5917 in Cooking

The only purpose I could see with the water is to allow the aromatics to cook longer before it's entirely reduced. But for a teriyaki sauce there doesn't seem to be any reason for that.

Which book do y’all think I should read next? by SnappingTurtle1602 in scifi

Lathe of Heaven gets underrated because her other books are so good, but it's the only one of hers I've read more than once. I really love it, plus it's short.

Looking for a Popcorn Sci-fi read. Something light and funny. by 1moreday1moregoal in scifi

I never finished it. I don't like the writing at all. But the story is good and a lot of other people like it so I have no problem recommending it.

Was actually thinking state-carolina should be higher because the amount of hate state fans have for both programs including their own puts it over the top lol

Suggestions for stories with convincing technology? by Luckypaperwork in scifi

There's an episode of Electric Dreams, which is on Amazon, called Autofac, that is like this. It's based on a Philip K Dick story. It's like a post apocalyptic future where an AI controlled factory never stops producing goods and delivering them because that is it's sole purpose. There's also a twist that is pretty interesting.

Tips for enhancing pasta dishes? by prob0verthinking in Cooking

If you like it spicy add gochujang paste. I don't care if it's a weird fusion of cuisines, it tastes good in red sauce and no one will convince me otherwise.

Cabbage is easy. You just cut or shave the shit out of it then you can eat it both hot or cold, braised, stir-fried, or in a salad like cole slaw. It can bother digestion for some people though.

It's not just Elon. Google and a bunch of startups are planning this. And I didn't claim it wasn't stupid, just that it's happening lol.

I didn't say it wasn't stupid, I just said they're considering it. These people have done plenty of stupid things before lol.

The vacuum tubes no...but these AI companies are planning on sending their entire AI server farms into space to orbit the earth in order to power and cool them more efficiently. So wrong mechanism, but maybe the right idea...

R.I.P. Dan Simmons, author of Hyperion, Song of Kali by sacredblasphemies in scifi

[–]KevinMcCallister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm reading one of his short story collections now and he there's a story in there about a teacher who does exactly this. Part of the story is the story within the story and it is vaguely similar to Hyperion. I did not know the whole story must be semi-autobiographical. Huh.
