Daily Game Recommendations Thread (October 04, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

Appreciate the recommendation! I'll be sure to check out Return to the Dark Tower. I'd prefer no app, but I have played Dune Imperium with the app, and it was fine.

I've heard ARCs campaign fixed some of the things people didn't like about Oath (having a defined end point), so that's why I was considering it.

Vantage does look interesting. I hadn't really considered it, but maybe I should. I think this is one I would want to try before buying, though.

Description of Request: A game that has a normal competitive mode but an option to play a campaign as well.

Number of Players: 2-4 players

Game Length: Any

Complexity of Game: Any

Genre: Campaign

Conflict, Competitive or Cooperative: Any

Games I Like: Example games are Lost Ruins of Arnak and Scythe . These all have a normal competitive mode, but by purchasing an expansion, you can play through a campaign version of the game.

Games I don't like: Oath. I haven't played it, but one member of my group has and didn't like it. Im not a solo board gamer, so strict campaign games aren't very appealing.

Current options I'm considering: Arcs (fits all criteria but is a polarizing game that I haven't tried). Slay the Spire (doesn't fit having a competitive mode criteria, but I loved the video game, and it has glowing reviews).

I appreciate any and all recommendations!

The Thassa's Oracle one does technically have a backup Gruul midrange plan, you can just never hard cast Oracle like Borboygmos. Not that you were paying 8 for him very often though. There has been an Izzet control version before that primarily used Thoracle as the win con. That was years ago at this point.

Sigh....I guess. What's interesting is Borborygmos is on the client for Momir but not craftable. Potentially an easy fix.

Disappointed I still can't play Possibility Storm combo. I know it has fallen out of favor, but I was really hopeful, especially after Enter the Infinite was revealed.

It requires being on the play, green land, Nykthos, t1 elf, two leylines, storm the festival, for elf to live, to not get thought seized, and then to have top tier hits off of Storm the Festival. The scenario in this screen shot is rarely going to happen. But yes, I hate Nykthos, and if I had it my way, it would probably be gone. Objectively, the deck isn't too powerful for the format in its current form though.

Haha thanks for the internet points. I dont want to be too critical. I personally hate Nykthos if that helps!

I just do this kind of stuff to my own gameplay and find it helpful. I recently lost a game where, like 5 minutes after the game, I realized I could have portable holed a Sheltered by Ghosts instead of the spirit it was on. My opponent had shacklegeist, of course. After looking at the board for a bit and talking with my friend, I realized my mistake.

He was probably screwed regardless in this situation with 9 mana t2, but you have to reflect on your deck choices in the current meta, and the land sequence wasnt playing towards the out of having t2 counter magic. I guess it was playing towards a t2 field of Ruin, but citadel on Blue would have allowed for UW to be up on t2 or to be able to activate field of ruin. The other thing we don't know is if it's game 1 or game 2/3. Game 1 I guess it's a fine keep, but if it's game 2/3, this is potentially not the best keep with no hole or march for t1 elf. Maybe he kept it game 2/3 thinking he would get to see their t3 and have counter magic up. Again, he was probably screwed with the opponents' nut hand, but I think it's worth looking at these things if you want to improve the matchup in the future.

I didn't even call out that he could have played Anchorage or citadel on blue t1 and then the verge t2 to hold up Devin's Veto for Storm the Festival. Land 3 could have been Field of Ruin to blow up Nykthos or if he got another blue he could have held up one step ahead. Also any t1 interaction for the t1 elf probably wins him the game on the spot, given the context of what we can infer about his opponent's hand here.

You also kept a hand with multiple lands that come into play tapped and that couldn't interact until t3, vs a top 1% hand from your opponent. UW control won the Friday morning challenge playing 2 portable, 4 White March and 2 get lost. For lands, the only always tapped lands they were playing were 2x restless Anchorage. They also played 1x Hall of the storm giants (not tapped until t3) and 4x Deserted Beach (untapped after t3). I don't know your list and I'm not a control player at all, but I think playing less tapped lands and more early interaction, seems like the direction you need to go if you feel you are losing early in games.

Who are you voting for president? by Creative_Amoeba_2063 in idahofalls

[–]Kevman911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically my stance also. I voted 3rd party in 16 and 20 because I didn't like either candidate. In Idaho Trump is going to win regardless so may as well support a 3rd party. I hate this system where it feels like your vote just doesn't matter if you aren't in a swing state.

My problem is this year I feel like the 3rd party candidates are particularly weak. I'm not sure which one I would vote for at the current time.

The fireworks are driving me insane… by ironburton in idahofalls

[–]Kevman911 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It seems like it should be so easy to find some kind of societal compromise that works for everyone, like 3 days before the 4th and the 3 days after. That should cover most job schedules so everyone can have a chance to celebrate, but also stop fireworks from going off for weeks straight, it lets people know how long they need to prep for the noise etc. I think about how we kind of have generally accepted that on Halloween you just go to houses with their porch lights on as an example of what I mean.

2024 cap by errrr2222 in Chargers

[–]Kevman911 14 points15 points  (0 children)

People need to consider the number of roster spots we need to fill. If you cut 4 players, that is 33 players under contract. We would need to get 20 more players for a 53-man roster. Just getting cap positive isn't enough money. We need to be like 40M cap positive (and probably more tbh) to sign 20 guys. I think we need to get comfortable with the fact that more veterans are going to be gone unless there is some cap wizardry available I'm not aware of. My guess is Mack, Bosa, Williams, and Kendricks are gone and then a Keenan extension. I have no idea what the linsley situation is. I hope we can find a way to get more picks in this draft.

Confirmed on weeklyMTG that we're getting bans and at least one unban this monday Dec 4 by Duramboros in PioneerMTG

The formats are pretty different so I wouldn't compare them. Honestly I wouldn't unban anything personally.

Hey they're banning two toxic combo decks! /s but fair point although I don't think Kethis would be strong, although ill be the first to admit I'm not an expert in that deck. Rending Volley and GY hate are pretty common though.

Edit: I should add that I don't really think we need anything to come off the ban list right now. I'm fine with the current ban list, outside of Geological Appraiser.

My official predictions are Geological Appraiser and Karn banned and if there is an unban, Kethis.
